ICOMPETE NATURAL NEW ZEALAND - COMPETITION DIVISIONS
Men’s Divisions
Bodybuilding:

Competitors should have the most muscularity, conditioning and size of any division.

Judging Is based on:

    - Muscularity – the shape, thickness and quality of the muscle
    - Proportion – the balance of one muscle group compared to another
    - Conditioning – muscle separation, definition and vascularity
    - Symmetry – balance from left to right, top to bottom and front to back. V taper with broad
        shoulders and sweeping quads.
    - Stage presence – posing, confidence and overall presentation

Judging rounds include:

    - Symmetry rounds – quarter turns
    - Muscularity rounds – front double biceps, front lat spread, side chest, rear double biceps, rear
lat spread, side triceps, abdominals and thigh, most muscular (crab and/or hands on hips)

Rota Elliott – ICN Pro Men’s Bodybuilding

Classic Physique:

Competitors in this division wear Shorts supplied by ICN.

With judging criteria similar to Men’s Bodybuilding, Classic Physique allows the athlete more freedom
in posing. Compulsory poses are performed with more flare and can mirror those of the great ‘classic’
bodybuilders like Arnold, Frank Zane and Sergio Oliva. Think twisting rear double biceps, victory
pose, straight arm side chest and the vacuum pose to name a few.

Judging Is based on:

    - Muscularity – the shape, thickness and quality of the muscle
    - Proportion – the balance of one muscle group compared to another.
    - Conditioning – muscle separation, definition and vascularity
    - Symmetry – balance from left to right, top to bottom and front to back. V taper with broad
        shoulders and sweeping quads.
    - Posing – showing traditional poses with a classic flare. It is expected an athlete will adjust his
poses to demonstrate a more classic style of the pose. For example – side chest becomes a
straight arm side chest pose (as performed by Arnold)

Judging rounds include:

                                                                                                         2

        picture below.

Denny Ardiyanto – ICN Classic Physique

Men’s Physique is performed wearing boardshorts of the athlete’s choice. The Physique athlete
should have a muscular physique but not the bulk of a bodybuilder. He should display broad
shoulders, round full arms and chest with a small waist (v-taper), balanced back development and
excellent abdominals.

Judging Is based on:

    - Muscularity – the shape, thickness and quality of the muscle
    - Proportion – the balance of one muscle group compared to another
    - Conditioning – muscle separation and definition
    - Symmetry – balance from left to right and front to back. V taper with broad shoulders and
        defined abdominals.
    - Stage presence – posing, confidence and overall presentation

Judging rounds include:

    - Symmetry rounds – quarter turns
    - Muscularity rounds – front double biceps, side chest, rear double biceps, side triceps,
        abdominals and thigh.

Jaaron Fritz and Jay Tere – ICN Physique

                                                                                                    3

ICOMPETE NATURAL NEW ZEALAND - COMPETITION DIVISIONS
Men’s Fitness:

Competitors in this division wear shorts supplied by ICN. This division gives men who don’t have the
bulk of a Bodybuilder or Physique competitor an alternative class in which to compete.

Men’s Fitness athletes should be lean with six-pack abs, be muscular and have an athletic look but
not the muscularity of a Physique athlete. The emphasis is on aesthetics, a small waist, V-taper and
equally balanced muscle groups. Stage presence and confidence are an integral part of Men’s
Fitness.

Judging criteria:

    - Proportion – the balance of one muscle group compared to another
    - Conditioning – muscle separation and definition
    - Symmetry – balance from left to right and front to back.
    - Presentation – posing, stage presence, tan and overall presentation.

Judging rounds:

Judging is based on quarter turns only as in the symmetry rounds of the divisions outlined above. The
athletes in this division use a great deal of flare and showmanship in their posing to demonstrate
confidence and enhance stage presence.

Roger Symes and Slade Walker – ICN Men’s Fitness

                                                                                                       4

Classic Figure

Classic Figure is judged purely on symmetry and the presentation of a toned figure. A two-piece
posing suit and stage heels are worn. Embellishments on the posing suit and jewellery are allowed.

Judging is based on:

    - Symmetry and proportion – muscle groups are balanced, a classic v-taper is evident, and the
        overall structure is symmetrical
    - Conditioning – the competitor is lean and muscle groups are evident but not necessarily
showing the striations or separation of a Bodybuilder or Figure athlete
    - Stage presence – posing, confidence and overall presentation

                                                                                                       5

hardness and definition but only taken to the point that stops before a competitor loses her ‘figure
shape’ and individual muscle groups lose their fullness and dimension.

Judging Is based on:

    - Symmetry – balance from left to right, top to bottom and front to back, small waist, broad
         shoulders and a v-taper
    - Muscularity – the shape, size and quality of the muscle
    - Proportion – the balance of one muscle group compared to another
    - Conditioning – muscle separation and definition
    - Stage presence – posing, confidence and overall presentation

    Judging rounds include:

    - Symmetry rounds – quarter turns
    - Muscularity rounds – front double biceps, side chest, rear double biceps, side triceps,
         abdominals and thigh.

ICN Angels

This division is open to all female competitors. Designated as a fun category, competitors can be as
creative as they like with their costume. It should include ‘wings’ in some form so think Victoria Secret
Model or Las Vegas showgirl. Only stipulation is no g-strings and no flames. Remember judges are
looking for the WOW factor.

Judging is based on the best costume design, overall presentation, poise, walk including how the
costume is incorporated into the walk, personality and effort put into the costume.

ICN Transformation Division:

Open to men and women this division is designed to recognise and celebrate an individual’s journey
to a healthier lifestyle. While it typically involves a weight lose journey through diet and exercise, it can
also be a celebration for someone who has overcome ill health using exercise and diet as part of their
journey to wellness.

The competition for this group begins in a time period set by the competition organisers. For our first
competition in April the transformation journey must take place within the 6 months prior to the
competition date of 26th of April.

Prior to starting their ICN Transformation journey a competitor will take a date stamped ‘before’
picture as a starting reference. In the days immediately before the competition date the competitor will
take a date stamped ‘after’ picture. Both of these photos will be uploaded to the ICN Members Portal
and form part of the judging process. The competitors will also be asked to write a paragraph
describing what motivated them to make a change and what challenges they have overcome and
triumphs they have experienced along the way.

On competition day each competitor will be introduced and invited onto the stage to perform a stage
walk. Their before and after pictures will be on display and their story will be read out as they do this.
Competitors can choose what they wear but most wear an evening or cocktail dress and heels. They
are also encouraged to have tan, hair and makeup done as part of their stage presentation and
celebration of their new look.

Judging takes into consideration the before and after pictures, changes made to body composition
and shape, overall presentation, self-confidence and poise on stage. While there will be place getters
announced on the day it is a celebration of everyone’s journey to the stage – cliché but really
everyone is a winner.
