2-HyLIFT-EUROPE Project 3-State of the market of FC 4-State of the states 1- Forklifts powered by hydrogen overview MHVs in Europe worldwide CALL: SP1-JTI-FCH.2011.4.1: Demonstration of fuel cell powered Materials Handling Equipment vehicles including infrastructure PROJECT AIM: Plan and ensure supported market deployment of FCMHVs beyond 2018 PROJECT SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: 1. Deploy more than 200 units of fuel cell powered materials handling vehicles and associated refuelling infrastructure in 2 relevant sites in Europe, thus realizing the largest fleet deployment of hydrogen fuelled industrial trucks in Europe 2. Demonstrate the maturity of the hydrogen infrastructure as well as the safety of the use of hydrogen in industrial environment. 3. Validate the Total Cost of Ownership and the path towards commercial targets. 4. Provide a best practice guide for hydrogen refuelling stations to build, install and operate them in industrial context. 5. Disseminate the project results targeting early adopters of hydrogen solutions, policy makers, industry stakeholders and the general public in order to create a network to support European industry. 2-HyLIFT-EUROPE Project 3-State of the market of FC 4-State of the states 1- Forklifts powered by hydrogen overview MHVs in Europe worldwide FCMHVs level of deployment in USA Optimal Deployment Environments for FC MHVs Large fleets – average fleet size in USA is more than 100 FC MHVs High utilization rate, 2-3 shifts High productivity requirements High labour costs © Ludwig-Bölkow-Systemtechnik GmbH www.lbst.de High electricity costs / low H2 costs Indoor and outdoor operation Cristina Maggi - FAST - Federazione delle Associazioni Scientifiche e Tecniche 13
2-HyLIFT-EUROPE Project 3-State of the market of FC 4-State of the states 1- Forklifts powered by hydrogen overview MHVs in Europe worldwide Conclusions The positive economic impact of the deployment doesn’t not make sense everywhere, but mostly for large fleets, multi-shift operation, shared infrastructure. Battery replacement can makes sense in special environment, however potential environmental impact and LCA should be investigated. Full-service packages with attractive TCO (including H2 supply!) engages end users European manufacturers are not as far as North American ones Financial support is still required in Europe. The transition from demo projects to full commercialization of the products still needs to be pushed forward, but there are already signals of developments Networking of the European key players is necessary to create the lobby.
