Message from the Mayor As I write this, kids around Sharonville are starting back into the school year. It is a unique start of the year for our city’s families as has been much through the Spring and Summer of 2020 for all of us. Our City is home to Sharonville Elementary, Stewart Elementary, Princeton Community Middle School, Princeton High School, the administrative offices of the Princeton City School District, St. Michael’s School, and several preschool and kindergartens, like Park Montessori School and Sharonville United Methodist PreSchool. I want to commend all the teachers and administrators of these institutions for their continuing efforts to provide education and support for our city’s students while taking action to protect the health and safety of the entire community. As the City has experienced through the opening of our pool, recreation facilities, and tax department over the summer, this is no easy task in this “time of strange” (I’m stealing that reference from a friend - I think it very appropriately sums up what we are all dealing with living through this pandemic). And while Fall arrives with this continued gradual reopening, we continue to do so around Sharonville. In the coming months, I am excited to share with you the completion of two significant projects that will transform the services that are provided to you, our residents and business community. Soon, we will open our new Police Station headquarters near the corner of Kemper Road and State Route 42. This new facility will truly allow our department to shine and continue its strong tradition of providing contemporary policing for our community. Fire Department Station 87 at the corner of Main and Cornell in our downtown is nearing the completion of its renovation. If you’ve driven by, it’s hard to miss with its new bright red exterior. The men and women of the Sharonville Fire Department who serve out of this station will finally have a facility that is equal to the professional services that our department provides while honoring the traditions of the volunteers who so capably served the City in the past. As the doors to these new buildings open, I hope that you will take the opportunity to celebrate with me their grand opening and see what the facilities have to offer for our city’s employees and you. And while the City hasn’t stopped completing projects during this “time of strange,” neither have our private partners throughout the City. Third Eye Brewery opened its doors to customers along Chester Road. With a large open taproom and considerable outdoor patio space, Third Eye has been serving up fine beers, hand-crafted beverages, and a delectable food menu for the last several months in the Northern Lights District. Just next door, the Delta Hotel is moments away from welcoming its first guests to the full-service Marriott hotel experience complete with a Starbucks and bourbon bar just off its grand, new entrance lobby. And the Sharonville Food Train keeps chugging along. Hopefully, you have found a way to continue to support these small restaurant businesses throughout Sharonville during these difficult times. I continue to wish all of you good health and best wishes as you navigate the strangeness of this time. The City of Sharonville remains committed to providing you the level and standard of service you’ve come to expect of your City. Like me, I want all of you to be proud to live, work and play in this great place. Kevin M. Hardman What is the Level of Force Used by the Sharonville Police Department? The Sharonville Police Department has long been committed to providing the most professional police services possible. As our mission statement states, we pride ourselves in serving the community with purpose. Given the recent attention regarding police use of force and the important discussions taking place nationally, we thought we would once again share our Use of Force data , to include the 2019 update. In years 2016 through 2019, the Sharonville Police Department arrested 2,375 individuals. Of the 2,375 arrests, there have been a total of 103 that involved use of force, or 4.3% of those arrested. There have been no complaints against a Sharonville Police Officer for excessive use of force. This study will create a conceptual plan to evaluate and determine which trail or trails can be easily, affordably, or successfully implemented for the benefit of Sharonville residents. This project will expand off Phase II of the City of Sharonville Downtown Loop Streetscape Master Plan (adopted June 2020) which is shown below. The study will help visualize 3 to 5 potential route options through the Sharonville Downtown Loop which could expand or create connections for Sharonville residents to Sharon Creek (located west of the Downtown Loop), Sharon Woods, Sharonville Elementary, or along Creek Road towards Gower Park, the Sharonville Community Center and Sharonville Branch Public Library. This study will also directly support the Sharonville 2030 Comprehensive Plan Theme #3, to Improve Connectivity throughout the City.
