MUN @ Colombo A small delegation of experienced TAISM MUN members journeyed to Sri Lanka to participate in an MUN Conference at the Overseas School of Colombo. Seniors Natalie Baltimore, Natalia Castano, Juan Quintana, Omar Ansari, Jared Rogerson, and Ana Arosemena, and junior Ewan Cosker, represented TAISM at the 24th annual COMUN event. Delegates debated international policy, participated in caucuses, and crafted resolutions to address issues ranging from the Rohingya refugee crisis, to drugs and crime, to the deployment of UN peacekeeping forces. TAISM delegates collaborated with participants from Sri Lankan international schools, as well as students from India and the Maldives. The TAISM delegates embraced opportunities to connect with fellow delegates, to learn new and varied MUN procedures, and to build relationships with one another. At the conclusion of the conference, the students enjoyed the opportunity to explore the city of Colombo. Among the stops on the tour, students wandered the Gangaramaya Temple (Buddhist), the Shri Ponnambalawaneswaram Kovil (Hindu), and viewed the unique beauty of the Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque. TAISM chaperones Jason Webster and Dante Gasser were continually impressed with the the students’ eagerness to learn and explore, their professionalism as delegates, and their perseverance through the stresses of travel. - Jason Webster (HS Social Studies teacher / MUN Adviser) High School Mid-Term Progress Reports for Semester 2 will be available to parents via email on Thursday, March 22nd. HS Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Sunday - March 25, 2018.
