WELCOME TO PRESTON Preston is a small city with a big personality that has grown in stature in the last few years. Did you know that there are 30,000 students living in Preston? So you can rest assured that you’ll feel right at home in our lively student city. A GREEN CITY - City life is great but it’s good to get away and fortunately Preston is surrounded by green spaces. Avenham Park has a Green Flag Award, regarded one of the best green spaces in the country. Only five minutes from the city centre it’s a great place to go for a walk, jog and relax with friends. The more active amongst you should check out the Guild Wheel, a 21-mile cycling greenway connecting the city to the Lancashire countryside. And a further 40-minute journey by road will bring you to the spectacular Lake District, England’s largest National Park. PRESTON, CAMPUS LIFE AND COVID-19 We know how important ‘Welcome’ is for our students. We’re aiming to give you a fantastic start at university, where you can make friends whilst staying safe. We’ll do this by managing numbers on campus throughout the day, adopting new one- way systems in buildings, and using our outdoor space, as we often do, for market stalls, social events and sports. Our on-campus food and drink outlets will use Perspex screens to separate you from staff, and those making your food will wear masks and gloves. All outlets are open from 8am until 5pm (Source Bar open until midnight). In the Students’ Union Atrium you’ll find your big faves like Starbucks and Krispy Kreme, and a selection of sandwiches, soup and hot meals – above the Students’ Union building on Fylde Road.
