Happy 60th Anniversary Rolling Hills! Dear Members, With 2020 behind us I know I’m not alone in feeling excited about the 2021 season. As more people continue to get vaccinated and feel comfortable returning to Rolling Hills, we look forward to having you back to enjoy all the amenities our beautiful club has to offer. Here is a short update of what you can expect this year: Racquets - Xavier Proulx, Head Racquets Professional, and our racquets committee have been busy planning many pickleball, tennis and spring paddle events. Golf - Glenn Perry, Superintendent, and his team worked diligently and tirelessly throughout the winter to ready the course for the start of the season. Golf is in full swing (no pun intended) with Ray Ford, Head Golf Professional, Jimmy Ferruzzi, Ranger, and Jason D’Aloia, our new Starter. The entire golf staff is excited to welcome members back on the course. Pool - Megan Baylis returns as Pool Director and is looking forward to the summer season. Summer Camp - Katie Nappi, our Youth Program Director, returns to lead our summer camp with engaging activities for our little campers, providing a much-needed break for parents. Clubhouse - Chef Dan, Leda Mejia, Assistant General Manager, and our hospitality committee have teamed up to plan a fun-filled year of social events for members of all ages. Our entire staff has been busy preparing for the 2021 season. This will be my 13th year at the Club and I’m thrilled to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Rolling Hills with all of our families, both old and new! Sincerely, Steve Revelant, General Manager
Page 2 SOCIAL CALENDAR 2021 Dear Fellow Members, What a great year we have planned! The pandemic year of 2020 greatly reduced our ability to provide our typical robust social activities. Page 4 GOLF COURSE Dear Members, Wecome back! There is no bigger news this Spring than the retirement of Yogi Dawson from the Greens and Grounds Staff. Yogi started at Rolling Hills in April of 1985 as the golf course mechanic. Yogi’s passion for the game of golf lead him to the role of Assis- tant Golf Course Superintendent. In his 35 years he has witnessed and participated in the evolution of Rolling Hills with a large role in it becoming what it is today. Yogi has been a part of every golf course improvement project that has taken place in the last 35 years. Yogi has seen it all during his time at Rolling Hills and is a wealth of information and history. His stories are fascinating and would make for quite an interesting book. Yogi will be around this summer caddying as he starts his transition into the well- deserved world of retirement. He plans on relocating to the south with his wife Marie and enjoying spending time with his family. Of course there will be a lot of golf in his future as well. Congratulations on your retirement and thank you for all that you have given to Rolling Hills over the past 35 years and thank you for all the help you have given to me over the past 22 years! It is great to see the membership back on the golf course. As you are making your way around hopefully you will notice the hard work the Greens and Grounds staff put in over the winter months. It ranged from a large drainage project on the fourth hole, clearing underbrush down the left side of the 11th hole, to selective tree removal through- out the golf course. We are currently in the process of using the trees that were removed to make lumber that will be used in projects in the future. Enough Eastern red cedar was milled so the Greens and Grounds staff can man- ufacture benches and Adirondack chairs to be used on the property. Taking advantage of recycling our natural re- sources, the wood chips were used for mulch and the rest of the wood will be ready to be sold for firewood in the fall. I am sure that anyone who has played has noticed the addition of sand to the bunkers. This was done to insure that all the bunkers have a uniform sand depth. As the construction project played out over multiple years it be- came noticeable that each year the bunkers were playing differently. By adding sand and readjusting sand depths this should be eliminated. Please be patient as we continue to work this spring on the bunkers. As always if you have any questions or comments don’t hesitate to reach out directly to me at gsupt@optonline.net. Glenn Perry Golf Course Superintendent, CGCS Meet Glenn Perry, Rolling Hills Golf Course Superintendent Glenn has been a golf course Superintendent since 1993. A graduate of The University of Rhode Island, Glenn began his career in the Metropolitan area in 1988; first as a turfgrass intern at Woodway Country Club and then as the Assistant Superintendent at the Stanwich Club in Greenwich. His first Superintendent job was at Potowomut Golf Club in East Green- wich, Rhode Island. While there, he achieved the designation of Certified Golf Course Su- perintendent as well as serving on the Board of Directors of the Rhode Island Golf Course Superintendents Association. He continued serving his profession with a seven year stint on the METGCSA board of directors, winning three national awards as editor of their newsletter “Tee to Green”. Glenn is starting his 22nd year at Rolling Hills. Since joining Rolling Hills in 1999 he has led many successful projects including a bunker renovation, establishment of a short game practice area, and a new golf course maintenance facility to name a few. Page 17 TENNIS/PICKLEBALL Dear Members: It has been an absolute privilege to be part of the Rolling Hills family for the last 16 years! I have witnessed the growth of our tennis program over the years which resulted in the construction of our paddle facility in 2014. The addition of paddle at RH has definitely transformed the club. Paddle and tennis exploded last year and we had the busiest season on record. Pickleball has also gained in popularity at the club and will continue to do so this season. There are racquets activities for everyone at Rolling Hills, some of which have already begun. We were first in the area to open our Har Tru Tennis Courts on March 27th. We always offer a wide range of pro- grams every season. Clinics are offered spring, summer and fall for beginners to competitive Men, Women and Junior Inter-clubs. We have four ladies interclub teams, three men’s teams and a junior team. We run coed clinics in addition to weekend clinics for working women who don’t have the opportunity to play during the week. We also run an In House League, a Box League and are very excited to once again offer over 30 events this summer. We take great pride in hosting first class events for our members! You surely don’t want to miss our epic monthly Friday Night Socials which are guaranteed fun at the tennis courts! Our four front LED lighted tennis courts allow us to host special evening events. Pickleball will also be expanded this summer as we will run clinics and round robins along with participating in the new Fairfield County Pickleball League with over 40 clubs in the ar- ea. This league will be playing on Saturdays from 3-5pm starting in mid-June. I am also very excited to welcome a year-round first Assistant to work with me to take the program to an even greater level. Marcos Rollan will be my new Head Racquets Professional in both tennis and paddle. He will bring an impressive level of teaching experience along with amazing interpersonal skills. His addition will be a LARGE asset to the program. Thank you to our Racquet Chairs, Board of Governors and Management for making this happen. Alexandra Koniaev will join the team in May and will also be a great addition to our Racquet’s staff. Alex played D1 Tennis for Elon where she was playing in the number one position in both Singles and Doubles. We are also pleased to have Alyssa DiMaio returning for her 2nd summer as she proved to be a great asset last season. We will also have sev- eral part time pros joining our staff. In this 2021 Racquet program you will find all the information about the tennis and pickleball season as well as summer paddle. We encourage you to use our upgraded online website to sign up for your favorite clinics, activities and events. I would like to welcome our new Men’s Racquet Chair, Saurin Shah, who has already made a significant impact to this year’s Men’s racquets programs. Special thanks to Bret Herman, former Racquet Chair, for his immeasurable help over the years and for bringing paddle to Rolling Hills! Many thanks to our Ladies Chair, Marilyn Babkowski, for also being instrumental with the women’s racquet pro- grams. I would also like to thank all of our Men and Women Interclub Team Captains for their tireless commitment helping with our teams. It goes a long way! Lastly, I would like to thank all of you, members of Rolling Hills, for being the nicest and kindest membership in Fairfield County. I have been in the private club business for over 30 years, in different parts of the country as well as abroad, and there is no doubt that RHCC is a very unique and special place. This belief is often shared by guest pros who assist with our clinics and events. The most important goal and main priority for me is to have all of you enjoy our racquets program so please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or suggestion you may have! Sincerely, Xavier Proulx, Director of Racquet Sports 2021 RACQUETS COMMITTEE Men’s Racquets Chair: Saurin Shah Ladies’ Racquets Chair: Marilyn Babkowski Director of Racquet Sports: Xavier Proulx

(11am-12:30pm) A Message from our Ladies’ Racquet Chair, Marilyn Babkowski Welcome to the start of another exciting outdoor racquets season at Rolling Hills! Xavier has a full calendar of tennis and pickleball programs starting this spring so there are many opportunities to get out and enjoy racquets sports with friends and family members. Once again our Har-tru tennis courts were one of the first to open in Fairfield County this Spring. Start to work on your outdoor tennis and pickleball game by participating in pre- season camps starting on April 8th. If you’re ready to take your game to the next level, our competitive tennis program is a great way to start. Weekly team practices with pros can get you ready to participate in one of our three women’s teams in the Fairfield Coun- ty Women’s Tennis League, with competitive matches on Thursdays and Fridays. There is also a 50+ league for players 50 and over which are played on Monday or Tuesday evenings. There is a pickle- ball in-house round robin on Saturdays/Sundays and a new opportunity to play competi- tively for RHCC in a social environment (New Fairfield County Pickleball League on Satur- days from 3-5pm). I’d like to invite you to one of our two Ladies Tennis/Pickleball Opening Days, which are scheduled for Wednesday, April 28 & Wednesday, May 5, 9am-1:30pm. It’s a great way to start the season and meet new people while enjoying social tennis and pickleball, fol- lowed by a nice luncheon on the patio. Please reach out to me when you see me on the courts just to say hello, if you have ques- tions, or if you’d like to volunteer to help plan an event. I can also be reached via email at mbabkowski@optonline.net. See you on the courts! Marilyn Babkowski
