PROGRESS new construction HOTEL TUPELO coming soon in 2021! The Tupelo Redevelopment Agency (TRA) and the City of Tupelo are excited about the opportunity to partner with the Thrash Group, LLC, a hotel development group based in Hattiesburg, MS, on a boutique hotel in #DowntownTupelo. Construction on this new hotel broke ground in June. Hotel Tupelo will be a four story 80 room hotel which will include a potential local restaurant concept along with ample meeting room space. The hotel will include two suites facing Main Street. Hotel Tupelo will include nods to Tupelo’s history while maintaining a modern and upscale feel. In an effort to provide adequate parking needed for the hotel, as well as the other surrounding businesses, the City and TRA will be creating a new parking lot behind Mugshots and the Renasant Center for IDEAS. Construction should conclude by Christmas 2021. “We are grateful to the Thrash Group for sharing in our vision to grow and expand amenities offered in downtown Tupelo,” said Mayor Jason Shelton. “For numerous years, this type of hotel has been requested by many of our existing businesses that want to provide a unique hotel experience for their customers and clients. I know our community and the many visitors to Tupelo will see that this hotel complements what we have going on here very well. We are thrilled that the Thrash Group has chosen Tupelo for its next boutique hotel destination.” CLICK BELOW TO FOLLOW THE PROGRESS! HOTELTUPELO.COM
PROGRESS new construction FAIRPARK RESIDENTIAL PHASE IV construction underway! The City of Tupelo and Tupelo Redevelopment Agency (TRA) started construction in June on the new phase of residential housing in the Fairpark District in #DowntownTupelo. New roads, water and wastewater developments are well underway for the creation of 50 new single-family residential lots! “I would really like to thank the Mayor and City Council for supporting the infrastructure improvemnets needed to create these new residential lots,” said Reed Hillen, TRA Chairman. “We anticipate having over $25 million of private development under construction in Fairpark over the next year. This would not have happened without our city leaders’ commitment to our community’s vision for Fairpark.” “Downtown housing is in great demand and is critical for maintaining a vibrant downtown. The private investment in Fairpark has proven to be a great return on the City’s CALL DTMSA OFFICE TO SECURE YOUR LOT TODAY! investment. I commend the City Council on recognizing both the need and the financial impact of adding 50 (662) 841-6598 new families to our downtown,” said Mayor EMAIL: debbieb@tupelomainstreet.com Jason Shelton. PROGRESS new construction BANCORPSOUTH ARENA & CONFERENCE CENTER coming soon in 2021! Ground broke on construction of the $15.2M exspansion and renovation of the Bancorpsouth Arena and Conference Center this past year (October 24, 2019). The new space is still under construction and will feature a covered walkway between the conference center and a VIP lounge area will be available for both the conference center and the arena. This VIP area will be able to accommodate 200 people. Construction is estimated to take up to 13 months with an additional 6 months to complete renovations. Since opening its doors in 1993, more than 6 million people have walked through the doors of the arena. Despite COVID-19 forcing events to come to a halt, construction work on the arena is moving forward in hopes that this will generate more revenue to the City of Tupelo and #DowntownTupelo in the near future. PROGRESS new construction THE FED coming in early 2021! Want to live in #DowntownTupelo? Contact hello@thefedtupelo.com to start the process! The Federal Building was purchased by Bev Crossen, owner of The FarmHouse, IndigoCowork and NOON in 2018. The “Fed” will feature office space and upper floor housing. After moving into the new FarmHouse location (The Rankin House) in downtown Tupelo, Crossen saw this as an opportunity to expand her vision. The Federal building was built in 1962. Currently, the downtown post office is the only tenant, but soon that will all change. Chris Chain of Columbus is heading the renovations. Chain has renovated more than 150 buildings across the state of MS. Utilizing historic tax credits, the renovation will preserve the exterior of the builidng and the interior will feautre some areas that reflect the building’s past. The Fed will have around 18 apartments on the second and third floors including studio, two-bedroom and executive apartments. Due to the limitations of using historic tax credits and restoring the building, only certain areas of the building can be renovated, leaving Crossen with some clever and strategic thinking and planning on the design. Some apartments will have views from large windows that extend across the front of the building facing Main Street. Residents will also have access to the rooftop, which will be open to host gatherings and will feature grilling areas. In addition to the US Post Office, the first floor will have available office spaces. IMPROVEMENT alleyway projects NORTH BROADWAY & SPRING STREET ALLEY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT BEFORE The Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association in partnership with the City of Tupelo began the process of improving existing Downtown alleyways in 2018. The newest alley to be completed was the North Broadway to Spring Street alleyway. Construction on this alley began August 3rd and was completed on August 21st. Removal of existing grease traps and asphalt pavement within the entire alley was executed and new concrete pavement was laid. Excavation and drainage improvements were made. While some alleys now feature stringed lights and various murals painted by local organizations and Tupelo High School art students, this specific alley will serve as a service alley allowing restaurants and businesses the opportunity to dispose of their trash and grease in a more efficient way. New AFTER garbage bins In years to come, our hope is to see all of the alleys in Downtown Tupelo renovated in a similar fashion helping to fuel the mission of “sustaining and enhancing the downtown experience!” Get downtown and see for yourself!

As more and more buildings are lined with white lights each year, our downtown continues to look better and better during the holidays! This project is headed by the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association and encourages downtown property owners and businesses to develop a common theme for holiday decorations using “white lights” to outline the tops of their building. By showing off our area with unified holiday decorations, we are able to project a very positive image to our community! DTMSA has the cooperation of the Public Works Department of the City of Tupelo, who install and maintain these white lights for you with no charge for their labor and equipment. After the one time cost for buying the strands of lights, you will pay only for repair and replacement of bulbs in future year. White Lights are usually installed and repaired by the first of November each year. Your participation may require additional wiring depending on your individual situation. This can be determined by Public Works before any lights are installed. If you are interested in having White Lights installed or repaired, please contact the DTMSA office at (662) 841-6598 or by email at info@tupelomainstreet.com by Wednesday, September 30! Join us in #DowntownTupelo on the weekend of Satuday, November 7 - Sunday, November 8 as we put together a wonderful weekend of holiday sales and promotions at some of your favorite downtown Tupelo retailers! Taking special precautions to meet the rules and regulations set forth by the CDC and the City of Tupelo, our downtown businesses are open and ready to help you shop locally in the safest way!
