The Haag-Streit Academy The Haag-Streit Academy understands the importance of training and education, both in terms of device operation and clinical diagnosis. That’s why we have developed an educational programme which sets the highest standards in the optical industry. We deliver a comprehensive education and training programme, including; post- installation on-site customer training, a variety of CPD-accredited live events and flexible online e-learning courses. Haag-Streit Academy’s live events are hosted at a variety of locations UK-wide. We also hold some of our key events at our dedicated training facility, located at the Haag-Streit UK (HS-UK) Headquarters in Harlow, Essex. Our 2020 calendar of events will focus on key products within the HS- UK portfolio, including; slit lamps & slit lamp imaging, Octopus 900 gold standard perimetry, LENSTAR LS 900 biometry and ophthalmic ultrasound. Courses will take place at venues across the country and will include general theory-based lectures, as well as expert user training to help both new and existing Haag-Streit UK customers get the most out of their devices. 02 |
The ‘Slit Lamp Basic Skills Course’ offers a half-day of training with the focus on hands- on workshops for small groups. The course will start with a short talk covering slit lamp set-up & controls and examination & illumination techniques. The agenda will also cover more specialist examination techniques, including Goldmann applanation tonometry and indirect fundoscopy, using a Volk lens. These courses will include up to three hours of hands-on experience, with no more than three learners per slit lamp. This CPD-accredited course is supported with pre and post-course e-learning content. The ‘Slit Lamp Imaging Expert User Training’ will teach the skills necessary to achieve superior results in the clinically-challenging field of ophthalmic imaging. Building on the success of our ‘Premier Slit Lamp Imaging’ courses, this expert level training is designed to support new and existing practitioners using Haag-Streit imaging modules (IM 600 & IM 900), or other slit lamp imaging systems. The overall aim of this one-day course is to help delegates improve the quality of images they are able to capture. This CPD-accredited training will include a series of short lectures and demonstrations, and hands-on workshops giving attendees the opportunity to examine their peers using state-of-the-art imaging devices. The agenda will include a focus on illumination techniques, including advanced approaches, such as sclerotic scatter and retroillumination. The course is supported with pre and post-course e-learning content and is open to all slit lamp imaging practitioners, regardless of the imaging system currently used. The ‘Slit Lamp Photographer’s BX 900 Masterclass’ is a one-day training workshop aimed at existing BX 900 slit lamp users or ophthalmic imaging professionals who are considering upgrading to this cutting edge slit lamp imaging system. The agenda will cover a wide range of topics, including; illumination techniques and image capture & manipulation. It will be packed with hints, tips and insights from slit lamp imaging experts. A considerable part of the day will be dedicated to small group workshops, allowing delegates to gain valuable hands-on experience with the BX 900 (often described as ‘The photographer’s slit lamp’), giving experienced slit lamp photographers the opportunity to get the most out of this state-of-the-art equipment. The event will also feature a series of short talks given by the Haag-Streit Academy Team, as well as invited expert speakers. Attendees will also be given the opportunity to compile a mini-portfolio, saving images of pathology, captured from real patients into an electronic workbook during the workshop sessions. The ‘Octopus 900 Perimetry Expert User Training’ is a highly-interactive course that aims to provide attendees with expert advice and a detailed overview of how to get the most out of their Octopus 900 perimeter, the true successor to the Goldmann. This one-day course covers both static and kinetic perimetry. It features short talks delivered by a faculty of perimetry specialists, covering a wide range of topics, including; system & test set- up, static & kinetic examination, test evaluation, cluster, polar & trend analysis and more. The day features practical, hands-on sessions and test simulations facilitated by the Haag-Streit Academy Team. It gives learners the opportunity to gain experience using Haag-Streit’s state-of-the-art Octopus 900 perimetry system, with experts on-hand to answer questions on all aspects of perimetry. This CPD-accredited course is supported with pre and post-course e-learning content and all attendees will receive a hardcopy of the current edition of ‘The Visual Fields Digest’, a comprehensive guide to perimetry and the Octopus perimeter, written by six experts in the field. The ‘Improving Outcomes Biometry & Surgical Planning Course’ focuses on the importance of good biometry practice to ensure optimal outcomes for patients undergoing cataract surgery. This one-day course is aimed at cataract & refractive nurses and other allied ophthalmic professionals with an interest in biometry. A series of short talks will cover; the anatomy of the human eye, the principles of biometry (both optical & ultrasound), topography, IOL calculation formulae, surgical planning and RCO/ NICE guidelines. There will be practical, hands-on workshops that support a range of subjects, including; good biometry practice, toric IOL planning, immersion ultrasound and how to perform IOL power calculations using Haag-Streit LENSTAR LS 900 biometer’s on-board software. The ‘LENSTAR LS 900 Biometer Expert User Training’ course is designed to help both experienced users and those considering a move to the LENSTAR LS 900 biometer get the most from this versatile biometry platform. A considerable part of this one-day course will be dedicated to hands-on workshops, giving attendees the opportunity to learn how to capture, check and interpret the results generated by Haag-Streit’s optical biometer. The practical sessions will be supported by a series of short talks covering a range of topics, including; the principles of biometry, IOL power calculations, adding & editing IOL data and performing high- quality topography using the LENSTAR’s T-cone toric platform. This expert level training is designed to support new and existing LENSTAR users and runs alongside our ‘Improving Outcomes Biometry & Surgical Planning Course’. The ‘Ophthalmic Ultrasound Basic Course’ aims to provide attendees with an overview of ophthalmic ultrasound techniques and looks at how these should be utilised in daily practice. A series of talks by expert speakers will cover; how to perform ophthalmic ultrasonography, dealing with media opacities & ocular oncology, as well as the applications of Ultrasound Biomicroscopy (UBM). Delegates will learn how to use different probes for both A and B-scan modalities and how to follow specific examination protocols to include the key scan orientations of transverse, longitudinal and axial. This one-day course will include a series of hands-on workshop sessions, giving attendees the opportunity to examine different simulated conditions. The workshops will feature state-of-the-art ophthalmic ultrasound equipment, including the new Eye Prime system from Ellex. The ‘Ophthalmic Ultrasound Expert Course’ aims to provide attendees with an in-depth knowledge of this highly-skilled ophthalmic imaging technique. This one-day course will cover; Ultrasound Biomicroscopy (UBM), opaque media & vitreoretinal disorders, intraocular tumours and the examination of the orbit & optic nerve. Delegates will learn how to use ultrasound to visualise a host of membranous lesions, such as; retinal, posterior vitreous or choroidal detachments and retinal tears. In addition, delegates will be taught how to use B-scans in conjunction with diagnostic A-scans for measurement and quantification of lesions associated with intraocular tumours. The training includes a series of short talks, demonstrations and hands-on workshops. Using real patients, it gives attendees the opportunity to gain experience using state- of-the-art ophthalmic ultrasound devices, focusing on Ellex’s premier Eye Prime, Eye Cubed and Eye One systems.
