Weather/Weather Alerts
Mountain weather can sometimes change rapidly and severe weather is an
occasional possibility. There is a weather alert radio on top of the bookcase to the left
of the fireplace. Press the “weather” button to hear about the weather. The radio is
also set to automatically announce any weather warnings. This auto notification
feature works properly much of the time, but is not 100% reliable.

   Cove Information

General Rules
In lieu of listing every single action that might be prohibited, we primarily rely on
asking guests to employ common sense and good middos. Please contact the
property manager if you have any questions.

Thermostats
The main house thermostat is located in the front foyer. The loft thermostat is on the
wall as you walk into the loft and turn right after the bathroom. Make sure thermostats
show “hold” so an automated schedule does not take over.

Kitchen/Bathroom Supplies
Kitchen and bathrooms are stocked upon arrival with basic supplies.

Food/Groceries
Small gas station convenience stores are found along the main highway. There are
two nice Ingles supermarkets both 10 minutes from the house. One is in downtown
Hiawassee and the other in Hayesville, NC.

Shopping
Downtown Hiawassee has a basic selection of pharmacy, hardware, electronics, and
clothing stores.

Fireplace
The living room fireplace is easily activated by flipping on the switch in the bookcase
to the right of the fireplace.

Fire Pit
Guests are welcome to enjoy campfires in the fire pit down by the lake. Exercise
caution when opening the nearby firewood stack as stinging insects and spiders like
to hang out next to the wood. Lighters can be found in kitchen drawers.

                                                                                     4

If you know your dog is prone to scratch doors or windows when he wants to go out,
please take preventative action before any damage occurs.

Yarmulkes are in a wooden box (butterfly on top) on the coffee table.

Bentchers
Several bentchers are in the kitchen drawers to the right of the oven.

Shabbat Supplies
Shabbat Candles (tea lights), lighter, and Havdallah set are stored in the drawers to the right of
the oven. Challah board/covers/basket/knife, Kiddush cup, and hot water urn are stored in the
corner kitchen cabinet to the left of the oven. The electric hot plate is stored in the cabinet
drawer to the left of the fridge.

Eruv
There is an eruv around the Kosher Cove property. It is a good idea to perform a quick
inspection of the eruv lines prior to Shabbos. If needed, extra fishing line and a step ladder are
available in the utility room or please email us at KosherCove@SDLHomes.com to coordinate
repair by a handyman.
Mikvah
Closest man-made mikvahs are in Atlanta and Chattanooga (423-894-0801). We do not have
clear guidance on whether Lake Chatuge qualifies as a mikvah. It is a man-made lake fed by
natural springs and rainwater that has a constant downstream river flow through the dam.
Consult your Rav for further guidance.

Music
Audiophiles rejoice!
Kosher Cove features several musical speaker zones throughout the home and pool area. The
only way to operate the system is through a nifty app called Sonos. To download and install the
Sonos app on your smartphone or computer, go to the lower right hand corner of
www.sonos.com/support and select your preferred install option. The software interface is
generally intuitive to use. Follow the instructions below for the hardware in the different zones:
 Master Bedroom - Powered on all the time and should not require any manual intervention.
 Master Bathroom – Powered on all the time and should not require any manual intervention.
 Living Room & Back Deck – Power to these speakers is controlled through the speaker switch
box on the bookshelf to the left of the fireplace. Follow the labels and push in buttons for
    speakers you wish to activate.
 Pool – Power to the Pool Zone should be off when not in use. To operate:
    1. Turn on the amp located to the far left side of the entertainment console below the
        television.
    2. Make sure the Sonos button on the box labeled “Audio Feed to Pool Speakers” on top of
the entertainment console is pressed in.
    3. Adjust the speaker volume with the knobs on the amp and/or through the smart phone
interface. On the amp, the lower the number, the louder the sound. If the next-door
neighbors are home, please be considerate with the volume outside.

Troubleshooting Tip: Most speaker issues can be solved by unplugging the speaker for a few
seconds.

Television
One way to keep Kosher Cove kosher is to exclude satellite, cable, or over-the-air television
channels. There are options for playing DVD’s, Blu-Ray’s, or streaming shows/movies. It is
suggested that you assign the youngest literate person in your family to figuring this stuff out.

      c. Netflix is entirely free and Amazon has many free options through the “Prime” menu

Troubleshooting Tip: Most Roku issues can be solved by unplugging the Roku power cord for

Pool gates must remain securely closed at all times.
Safety Precautions
Some of Kosher Cove’s best attributes involve bodies of water (Lake Chatuge, swimming pool,
and outdoor spa). All three have unique virtues and can offer countless hours of entertainment,
recreation, or relaxation. All three also come with risks and dangers that could cause injury or
death. This guide book is not big enough to list every conceivable way something could go
wrong in or near water. Please exercise common sense, good judgment, and caution.

Enjoy any of Kosher Cove’s water features at your own risk. We strongly recommend the buddy
system and/or close parental supervision with the spa, pool, and lake.

Pool Supplies
Safety supplies are kept within the immediate pool area and should not be removed under any
circumstances. There are pool towels in the laundry room and utility room. Rafts and various
pool toys are available in the utility room. Please place used towels in the laundry room laundry
basket and kindly return rafts/pool toys to the utility room when finished using them.

                                                                                              12

Spa Cover
We know it looks inviting, but please do not allow anyone to sit or place any items on the spa
cover. While the cover does a great job keeping the water warm, it breaks easily and is
expensive to replace.

To remove the cover, lift the side of the cover near the spa steps. Gently guide that half of the
cover up and back to fold over the metal bar that crosses the spa. Then gently lift/guide the
metal bar up and towards the retaining wall.

The cover and lifting mechanism are both breakable. Please do not let the cover or mechanism
“free fall” at any time.

Temperature
Maximum temperature is 104°F. To display the set temperature, press the “Temp” pad once. To
change the set temperature, press the pad a second time before the LCD stops flashing. The
temperature will either go up or down. To change the temperature in the opposite direction wait
for the LCD to stop flashing, press the “Temp” pad once, then press the “Temp” pad again to
reverse the temperature direction. After three seconds, the LCD will stop flashing and display
the current spa temperature.

If the spa is not getting or staying as hot as you set it, check to make sure it is not in economy or
sleep mode. To adjust the mode, press "temp" and then the "light" button. Make sure unit is in
Standard Mode (shown as ST).

Jets
Touch the “Jets” button once to turn the pump on or off. The “Boost” button will operate the
blower pump.

Light
Press the “Light” button to turn the lights on/off and modify the speed they change colors.

Chemicals
The plastic floater in the spa contains bromine that keeps the water clean during light to
moderate use. Please do not remove the floater from the spa. The sign on the wall next to the
spa provides instructions on how to keep the spa clean during heavy usage or longer stays.

Jackrabbit Mountain Biking (20 minutes)
This is an awesome, purpose-built trail system in a "stacked loop" configuration. The trails
themselves are mostly fast, with lots of rolling dips and berms, and a few technical areas. They
take you along the shores and hills beside Lake Chatuge. Guests are welcome to use the
bicycles in the garage provided you are willing to assume all risks and liabilities. This means
that if you get hurt you won’t sue us and if you break something you’ll fix it.

Shopping
Most nearby towns have some common chain stores and basic supplies. Hiawassee is the
nearest to Kosher Cove.

Some towns also feature kitschy, locally owned stores selling arts & crafts, outdoor supplies, pet
supplies, and Appalachian tchotchkes. Blue Ridge and Helen are two of the better locations to
enjoy walking amongst the stores.
