WELCOME Christophe Ameeuw : “Gucci Paris Masters - a must in the international equestrian calendar.” In a few weeks Paris will host the European leg of the Masters Grand Slam Indoor, sharing the halls of the Parc des Expositions of Paris Nord Villepinte with the Salon du Cheval. The City of Lights will welcome for the fifth time this event resulting from the "dream of a show jumping professional and enthusiast to see this spectacular discipline brought to the forefront of the international sports scene," says Christophe Ameeuw, President of the EEM World, organizing society of the Gucci Paris Masters. Five years ago, EEM World decided to restore the glory of the Jumping of Paris. "We needed a partner who shared the values of our event: glamour, passion, excellence and whose brand DNA is anchored in the equestrian world," recalls Christophe Ameeuw. The choice of Gucci was obvious. "Since the 1930s, in Florence, Guccio Gucci’s creations drew the attention of local cavalieri descending from an equestrian art enthusiastic aristocracy. The iconic horsebit became the timeless symbol of the House of Gucci. Today, Gucci continues this tradition with the Gucci Paris Masters becoming after five years a flagship event for the Italian fashion House and the most prestigious international show jumping event of the indoor season in Europe," says the President of EEM World . Masters Grand Slam Indoor, a unique concept The idea of the Masters Grand Slam Indoor circuit dates back to 2011. "The concept of the Masters is structured around four days of high-level sport and entertainment, with the best show jumping riders and horses in the world competing for $1,000,000 in prize money. The competition takes place before an audience of 50,000 spectators on site and more than 500 million households in 120 countries, making the Masters Grand Slam the most broadcasted indoor competition in the world,” explains Christophe Ameeuw. 3
"We wish to create a unique meeting place for horse enthusiasts, opinion and business leaders and celebrities, who find themselves in a glamorous and festive atmosphere combining the best of show jumping, with gastronomy and entertainment in the presence of the most prestigious international brands. In addition, the event also partners, with numerous local and international charities. Similar to tennis, the concept of the Masters Grand Slam Indoor takes place in the main capitals of the world and wishes to conquer new continents: after Paris and Europe, the Masters Grand Slam were exported to Hong Kong in 2013. " Again, the choice of Hong Kong was obvious to EEM World, "Today, the economic power and dynamism of Asia makes it a major destination for our brand partners and for the actors of the equestrian world. Hong Kong was set to be the perfect showcase for the Asia Pacific region and the antechamber of China. The success of the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 and the quality of the local infrastructures were key points in the choice of the city. " "The horse symbology is deeply rooted in Asian history and culture,” explained Christophe Ameeuw. "The next edition of the Hong Kong Masters in February 2014 will begin under the auspice of the year of the Horse in the Chinese calendar. It is a unique opportunity to anchor the event and highlight its pertinence as a must in the region. " Longines, Master of Time Title sponsor of the Hong Kong Masters, Longines is also very involved in the Gucci Paris Masters. "Longines has immediately trusted us on the strategic choice of a Masters in Asia and became the title sponsor of the Longines Hong Kong Masters," says Christophe Ameeuw. "For Longines, the Hong Kong Masters is a unique platform and for us, Longines is the ideal partner considering its presence in Asia, its identity and values related to the equestrian world. Longines’ slogan "Elegance is an attitude," matches perfectly with the character of our events. Given the success of the Masters Grand Slam in Hong Kong and Paris, the prestigious Swiss watchmaker is definitely part of our Grand Slam becoming official timekeeper of the Gucci Paris Masters and sponsor of the famous Longines Speed Challenge event that takes place on Friday evening in Paris. For the first time, this year, Longines will sponsor the Longines Battle of the Sexes on Saturday evening too. " A Third Destination "The concept of the Masters Grand Slam Indoor has proven its worth, both in Europe and Asia and is recognized as a great platform for our brand partners. For their next step, the Masters will set a new challenge on a new continent," stated Christophe Ameeuw. 4
A SPECIAL GUCCI EVENT A letter from Gucci’s Creative Director Frida Giannini It is my pleasure to welcome you to this year’s Gucci Masters. Once again, Gucci is extremely pleased to sponsor this annual European Grand Slam occasion, which is becoming quite a fixture in our calendar, this being the fifth consecutive year we have been involved. For nearly a century now, the equestrian world has been an integral part of our House’s heritage. Ever since Guccio Gucci founded his company in 1921 in Florence, horse riding has often inspired the motifs and symbols of our designs. Today, Gucci’s green and red stripe, taken from a horse’s girth strap, and the famous Gucci horsebit, are recognised the world over as signatures of the House, and have entered the lexicon of iconic fashion details. This year there really are some exceptional events. The Nuit du Cheval is a prestigious and exciting evening horse show staged by one of the most renowned French equestrian artists, Jean–François Pignon. The Battle of the Sexes sees the playing field levelled as top female and male riders compete against one another on the same terms within the same event. With fences reaching 1.50 metres, only the 10 best riders qualify for the final round, which will determine the victor . The Style and Competition Challenge to benefit Princess Caroline de Hanovre's AMADE Mondiale children's charity, is another highlight of the three days. It is a pro-am contest combining competitiveness and originality for an important cause. National and international equestrians and celebrities join forces to ride in costume with Marina Hands, Noémie Lenoir and Nikos Aliagas kindly acting as this year's judges. Of course the highlight of the three-day Gucci Paris Masters in the Gucci Grand Prix, when I will be personally cheering on Edwina Tops-Alexander and our horse Guccio, who will of course both be wearing their Gucci colours with pride. Gucci’s founder, Guccio Gucci, had a genuine fascination with the equestrian world, recognising the excitement it stimulates and its historical, noble spirit. As the Creative Director at Gucci today, I aim to draw on the authentic heritage of the House, which I see as lying at the root of its timeless appeal, and equestrianism is certainly a large part of the story. As an avid rider myself – I have been since I was a child – I understand the commitment required to succeed in this sport and have always been impressed by the dedication the sport requires. It is this that we see on display at the Masters. 5
But though equestrian events are remarkable because they attract great riders – this one truly boasts the best show jumpers in the world and they are also wonderful because they gather together so many people who share a similar passion for horse riding. I speak not only for myself, but also for the House of Gucci, when I say welcome to the 2013 Gucci Paris Masters. We really are just as excited to be here as you are. 6
SPORTING EXCELLENCE MEETS GLAMOUR Gucci Paris Masters is one of the few indoor events to offer a competition for the world's equestrian elite, as well as for amateur riders. It is also the only international show jumping event that mixes sporting excellence and glamour. Here are some ingredients of a recipe that has been working successfully for five years: At One Event, An Exceptional Gala This year, for the first time, the “Nuit du Cheval Show”, organized by the Salon du Cheval de Paris will inaugurate the first night of the Gucci Paris Masters on Thursday, December 5th. This original horse show called "Horsemusic" with the renowned Jean- François Pignon, will kick off this 2013 edition with a unique and magical evening. For nearly two hours, the audience will experience an exciting ride, where horses will be appreciated for their grace, power and beauty. Staged by the Italian artistic director Antonio Giarola, "Horsemusic" will bring together world-renowned artists in a series of musical scenes, highlighting the art of dressage and equestrian comedy: - Jean-François Pignon, showman, tutor, actor (Danse avec lui from Valerie Guignabodet) and his free-roaming horses; - Gregory Ancelotti, who holds the world record for the longest distance traveled by a horse on its hind legs, now for the first time in Paris; - Silvia Elena Resta and the acrobatic company "Le Zèbre"; - Silver Massarenti, trainer, and Anissa Bertacchini, dancer; - Bartolo Messina, along with Charlie, the smallest pony in the world (Guinness World Record 2012). In addition to the above, other artists will perform during this unforgettable evening such as the Republican Guard and the famous violinist Willow Kilaite. 7
The Celebrities at the Gucci Paris Masters Whether competing or in the boxes and grandstands, the Gucci Paris Masters hosts each year, many artistic personalities, all passionate about horses and the equestrian sport. In the Stands Fanny Ardant, Marion Cotillard, Roxane Depardieu, Karine Silla, Marina Hands are among the loyal spectators of the event, just as Vincent Perez, Jean Rochefort, Jean-Pierre Castaldi, Charles Berling, Michel Boujenah and Julien Clerc. The TV presenters will also go through the traditional photocall : Xavier de Moulins, Mademoiselle Agnès Laurent Ruquier, or Stéphane Bern and are usually joined by some renowned names: HRH Princess Caroline de Hanovre, Electra Niarchos, Sarah Lavoine, Marie Poniatowski, Arnaud Lagardère, Dominique Desseigne, Olivier Picasso and even sportsmensuch as, Philippe Monnet, Jean-Eric Vergne. Jean Rochefort, Loyal to the Gucci Paris Masters “It is popular and elegant at the same time.” Horse and equestrian sports enthousiast for many years, Jean Rochefort is a regular of the jumping of Paris. Loyal since the first edition, the actor enjoys this rendez-vous where, "conviviality that makes the public fully integrated to the competition. It is popular and elegant at the same time." True horseman, Jean Rochefort loves nothing as much as "riders in harmony," those who give the impression and the certainty that the two of them are enjoying, the impossible dream." He of course followed the successful French show jumping team at the end of the summer. First the title of European champion for Roger Yves Bost: "Bosty finally! A style? No, it’s osmosis. His horses know he’s never wrong, if Bosty reacts it’s that he’s right, so European Champion, that’s normal!" And then, the victory of the French team in the final of the Nations Cup: "A great joy! Yes a wonderful team, exceptional horses, coach (Philippe Guerdat, Ed) that reminds me of Jean Gabin. We could not disappoint him!" Convinced that the equestrianism has everything to be a popular discipline, Jean Rochefort never loses an opportunity to remind us how equestrian sports are spectacular. And when asked what he would say to a neophyte to convince him to come to the Gucci Paris Masters, he answers: "Hurry up, you will see what you have to see, you will begin to understand what you have to understand, then Monday you will decide to learn to ride, your life will change, hurry up! " 8
In the Arena Show jumping has its followers among personalities. Regularly seen in competitions, the horse enthusiast celebrities strive to live their passion despite the constraints of their profession. Among the competitors of the Gucci Paris Masters, Julien Courbet, Benjamin Castaldi, Nicolas Canteloup are regulars of the Invitational Trophy (CSI1 *) as Guillaume Canet, taking part for the second consecutive year. The heiress Athina Onassis will compete in the Masters (CSI 5 *) while Jessica Springsteen, will take part in this year’s Style & Competition for AMADE. Guillaume Canet, Competitor of the Gucci Paris Masters Is the film "Jappeloup" who gave you the urge to compete again or were you thinking of that before? Guillaume Canet: "No I didn’t think about it for twenty years. I had completely turned my back to competition and horses. I think I protected myself because if I do something I do it 100 per cent, and as I did not want to do this full time, I decided to completely stop even if I missed it... The film was actually a revelation to me and a shock making me realize that I could not do without horses and competition. How do you manage to balance shooting, training and competition? G. C.: The best I can. It is not easy, but I decided recently to devote a little more time to horse riding and organize my work around the dates of training and competition. It's been very long days, but it made me great good to disconnect from work that had become omnipresent in my life. I can get some air and see my old friends. I feel young again! Which riders do you admire the most? G. C.: A lot of them. There are many excellent riders; it is very difficult to name a few, as this sport can be very ungrateful. You can be a very good rider and be out of competition because you don’t have the horse for the highest level. I have a fascination and admiration for some as Marcus Ehning, Bosty, Patrice Delaveau, Eugénie Angot, Pénélope Leprevost, Philippe and Thierry Rozier, and also Olivier Guillon, extraordinary rider, to whom I wish to find a horse to go back to the highest level. 9
You wear the colors of Gucci, what does it mean to you? G. C.: A lot of pride! I’m very proud to join a team with a rider like Edwina Tops-Alexander. A dynamic team that supports me and that’s happy with my results. It's very nice to be part of a team. And also to being very well dressed! " 10
When Notoriety Chimes with Generosity Style & Competition for AMADE Saturday, December 7th, 8:00 p.m. Since 2010, the Style & Competition for AMADE inspired by Charlotte Casiraghi, has become one of the highlights of the Gucci Paris Masters, where personalities and professional riders team for a right and just cause. Combining sport, elegance and charity, this popular meeting allows the public to raise funds for the benefit of AMADE Mondiale chaired by HRH Princess Caroline de Hanovre, a non-profit NGO for children protection and development worldwide. In this event, twelve teams sponsored by companies with a rider of the Masters (CSI5*) and a rider of the Invitational Trophy (CSI1*) compete against the clock. Teams can choose to jump jokers that allow them to improve their times or worsen it if it falls. Each team chooses a theme and have to ride dressed up to a chosen music. The actresses Marina Hands, Noémie Lenoir and the journalist Nikos Aliagas will be the three jury members for selecting the most “stylish” team. In 2012, thanks to the generosity of the riders and companies, a check of 180 000 euros was given to charity. 11
Interview with HRH Princess Caroline de Hanovre Which programs have been allocated the funds raised by the Style & Competition for AMADE in 2012? “These funds were fully used to promote the care and rehabilitation of Filipino street children. For many years, AMADE supports the work of teams of the Virlanie Foundation in the Philippines. I myself had the opportunity to go to accompany the street children in Manila and see the extent and severity of their situation: tens of thousands of children and families living on the streets exposed to violence and poverty, without access to health care nor education. During year 2012, Virlanie was able to support more than 1,200 children and provide them with medical care, a healthy diet, and regular education but above all love and hope. It is this support that allows them to regain confidence in their abilities, and reintegrate into society permanently.” What are the other projects that were completed in 2013? “Among the activities developed during the year, AMADE paid particular attention to the following areas: The care and rehabilitation of street girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo: In June in Kinshasa, I met with teams of the VTA Centre (Vivre et Travailler Autrement) and the young girls from 9 to 17 years old. I was very moved by the difficult living conditions faced by these girls, left to themselves, forced into prostitution to survive, sometimes rejected by their families accused of witchcraft. AMADE has supported the centre to support the care of 47 girls from the streets of Kinshasa. It is now estimated that more than 20,000 children live on the streets of the capital, more than half are girls. At the Centre, they can find shelter, food, education, and gradually reacquire self-esteem. The construction of a secondary school of excellence in Burundi: This program takes place in a more global approach for the care of orphans and vulnerable children of Burundi, for which AMADE have been committed for more than five years, benefiting more than 50,000 people each year. Our work includes strengthening the financial capacity of local communities, families and guardians of orphans to enable them to ensure the future of their children themselves. Mutual health organizations have been established to provide access to health care for orphans and ensure self-management of health expenditures by communities. 12
AMADE also seeks to improve access to quality education through the construction of this school, with a total capacity of 432 students, which is scheduled to open in the beginning of September 2014. The facility will provide enhanced instruction around technical courses chosen from technical employment branches of tomorrow in this country. Emergency assistance for Syrian children refugees: This October, AMADE just released an emergency assistance of 75,000 Euros to support the HCR efforts to help Syrian children refugees in Jordan, in the camp Za'atri. This will help to strengthen the protection of children fleeing war and that are isolated, without family in the refugee camps, where they remain exposed to many dangers. Girls, for example, are sometimes forced to marry and abused, while the boys are at risk of being recruited by armed groups and forced to return to fight in Syria. The support of AMADE promotes the prevention and awareness conducted by HCR and UNICEF on site to prevent these abuses.” What are the objectives of the association in 2014? “For sustainability, AMADE will endeavour to continue its efforts in priority areas, which are the protection of the most vulnerable children against violence, abuse and exploitation; access to quality education for all - which implies in particular the fight against all forms of discrimination and inequality, such as gender and allow integration in the school system for more girls, and finally access to health and reducing child mortality, through the training of local health professional, access to drinking water and sanitation and the fight against neglected diseases such as sickle cell anaemia. AMADE plans to focus more specifically on the worrying phenomenon of "child witches", including in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Thousands of children are accused of witchcraft and rejected by their families, which they blame for their situation and the challenges they face: poverty, death of a loved one, illness. They are no longer considered as children, but as demons, and are treated as a threat to the safety of their loved ones. AMADE wants to invest with local organizations to support awareness, contribute to the care of these children, and if possible reunite them with their families.” 13

It will give a place of honour to a different discipline of the Games each day: the three Olympic disciplines (show jumping, dressage, eventing) and the para-dressage, reining, vaulting, driving and two disciplines that will be presented, horse-ball and polo. Our visitors will interact with the biggest names in all of these disciplines during demonstrations and events in the Races & Animations arena and on the TV set of the Salon du Cheval. Still on the sports front, the Salon puts on a show with the Paris Horse Trophy by Pikeur Bost 2013 with many competitions on December 2nd and 3rd. But because horses are much more than only sports, the 2013 edition of Salon du Cheval de Paris is set to now be more than ever the showcase for its tremendous diversity and its eternal vitality. Children, riders with disabilities and hikers will enjoy their passion over the whereabouts. The horse as a partner, no restrictions ... He shows his complicity in the para- equestrian disciplines that will have their own dedicated day (December 1st) or with children in the special activity "Once upon a time the ponies." Others decide to conquer new horizons, to overcome the borders, these hikers will have every opportunity to choose the journey of their life in the Equestrian Tourism Village. For the first time in 2013, three prizes will be awarded to the best escape ideas. Of course, the main events of this great horse festival this year are yet again: the Nuit du Cheval, magical show of an incredible horse artist, the World Arabian Horse Arabian and its beauties coming for the East, the Paris-Cup driving competition with its thrilling rivalries, the CVI W International Vaulting Masters, fusion between the bodies of man and horse, or the 26
Gucci Paris Masters which offers a grand finale to close the Salon. Without forgetting the traditional parade in Paris (November 24th) that announces to the Parisians that the time has come to set the foot in the stirrup or simply to dream. A dream, a warm breathe in the heart of winter, the one of the friend or the champion that is the horse. The 42nd Salon gives him once again his Pantheon! 27
