Dear Girl Scout Families, We are excitedly anticipating this summer to welcome you and your Girl Scout to Camp Bonnie Brae, Camp Green Eyrie, Camp Laurel Wood, and Camp Lewis Perkins! At GSCWM, summer brings happy memories of dips in Bare Hill Pond, a bullseye on the archery range, wish boat building, and, of course, singing around a campfire together. As we continue to navigate a world with Covid, we look forward to summer 2023 filled with the magic, tradition, friendship, and fun that girls and their families have come to expect at Girl Scout camp. Summer camp is an opportunity to unplug, find refuge in nature, and exercise independence in a safe, girl-led environment. Attending camp is consistently cited as girls’ favorite memories of their Girl Scout years and is something I look forward to every year! By sending your girl to camp, she will develop leadership and outdoor skills as well as a deep appreciation for our natural world. Girl Scout camp gives girls an opportunity to grow, explore, and find themselves under the guidance of caring, trained adults. When your camper attends one of our camps, she joins a 111 year legacy of sisterhood and tens of thousands of Girl Scouts. This includes many of our summer camp staff, who have found lifelong friendships, discovered their strengths, made lasting memories, and returned home with an all-new love for the world around us. So, give your girl the gift of camp—you’ll be amazed at what a little time outdoors does to develop her courage and confidence, from the classroom to the laboratory, to the boardroom, and beyond. I can’t wait to see you this summer and explore the world of camp together! Happy Camping, Jessica Gonzalez Program Manager Light Your Way to Camp GSCWM Camp Guide 2023 2
ACA ACCREDITATION AND SAFETY/ HEALTH REGULATIONS The American Camping Association (ACA) accreditation standards require that camp facilities undergo a thorough review process by outside camping professionals every five years. For our ACA accredited camps, these reviews last occurred in 2017 (Camp Bonnie Brae) and 2018 (Camp Green Eyrie and Camp Lewis Perkins). The American Camp Association is the world’s premier organization dedicated to promoting the safety and quality of camp programs. Camp Bonnie Brae, Camp Green Eyrie, and Camp Lewis Perkins are proud to be accredited by the American Camping Association (ACA) and meet its high standards for program design and activities, site and food service, transportation, health and wellness, operation management, and human resources. Regardless of accreditation status, all GSCWM camps maintain the same high levels of safety and high-quality camp programming that the ACA requires. In addition to the safety guidelines outlined by the American Camping Association and Girl Scouts of the USA, all GSCWM camps comply with regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and are licensed by local boards of health. For more information about these state regulations, call 617-624-5757. GIRLS WITH ACCOMMODATIONS: GSCWM wants all girls to have the opportunity for a great camp experience and we will do our best to accommodate all Girl Scout campers.
