Opening Summer 2020 2020 will see the opening of the RHS’s fifth garden, RHS Garden Bridgewater, in Salford, Greater Manchester. Named after the historic Bridgewater Canal which runs along the southern end of the site, RHS Garden Bridgewater is set in the grounds of the former Worsley New Hall, a 19th century residence which was formerly the estate of the First Earl of Ellesmere. The master plan for RHS Garden Bridgewater has been created by leading landscape architect Tom Stuart-Smith. Though the mansion no longer remains, echoes of the original gardens, including the historic walled garden, ice-house, lake and formal terraces, can still be seen. Highlights of Bridgewater will include the restored 11 acre Weston Walled Garden, one of the largest walled gardens in the country. This will encompass several large gardens within it, including a Wellbeing Garden, which will provide a horticultural haven and an Orchard Garden and Bee and Butterfly Garden focusing on traditional fruit trees. These will sit alongside a Kitchen Garden designed by RHS Chelsea Flower Show gold medalists Charlotte Harris and Hugo Bugg; a Paradise Garden designed by Tom Stuart-Smith; a Learning Garden designed by students from Manchester Metropolitan University and Community Grow Plots. There will also be a unique Chinese Streamside Garden, which has been created in partnership with the local Group Admission Chinese community, celebrating the huge contribution of Chinese plants and gardening traditions. and Guided Tours Group Bookings are for arrivals from 1st September 2020 onwards. Group admission £7 per person Guided tours £3 per person To discuss visits to RHS Garden Bridgewater please email groups@rhs.org.uk or call 01483 212392 30
