Renewable energy is derived from natural What Is processes that are replenished constantly. Renewable In its various forms, it derives directly from Energy? the sun or from heat generated deep within the earth. Renewable energy can be used to generate electricity or produce heat.
A heat pump is an environmental energy technology that extracts heat from low temperature sources (air, water, ground), upgrades it to a higher temperature and releases it where it is required for space and water heating.
From April 2018 – SEAI Better Energy Home Heat Pump Grants €3500 grant for an Air-to-water, Exhaust-air or Ground source heat pump, providing will cover 100% the heating load and 80% the DHW load €600 grant for a Air-to-air heat pump, as above €824 from Electric Ireland grant (as it stands) €170 switching bonus, Electric Ireland from one provider to them. 14
What Is A Heat Pump? How does a heat pump work? Have I got a heat pump at home? “ “A fridge is a heat pump” • The inside of the fridge is kept cool by extracting energy from inside the fridge. • This energy is then rejected to the kitchen ( if you put your hand behind the fridge it feels warm) An air source heat pump doing heating works like a fridge in reverse!
Benefits of the ASHP: for 1kW consumed produces on average 3-4kW=400-500% efficiency
Air-to-air heat pumps, a closer look at aerothermal Air-to-air heat pumps – outdoor unit connected to multiple indoor fan coils – up to 5 Each have independent time & temp control High wall of Floor mounted Hot water heated separately* *DAIKIN is developing a model that will be able to do heating & DHW from the same outdoor unit
Multi Split Air to Air Wall or Floor Mounted Ideal for replacement of old inefficient storage heaters! 18

Installations
Full range of installation accessories All installations Floor mounting - Flexible hoses – straight Flexible feet – and elbow connections only 2 required Pair 600 mm Wall Protective Guard – mounting 950 X 1050 X 460mm Wall brackets and drip trays Solution TW – Insulated Sleeve Floor Protective part guard • 2 x 330mm mounted – were exposed coil is straight lengths drip tray an issue 28mm ID 19mm thick PVC insulation • 2 x slit elbows
Weather Compensation Comes fitted as standard. Flow temperature varied according to external air temperature. High flow temp at low ambient Low flow temp at high ambient Improves system efficiency. Recommended to use this on all heat pump installations as results in lower running costs
Gauging suitability for heat pump New-build – ideal > Building well-insulated, small heat loss > Heating distribution system can be designed for maximum efficiency Retrofit – considerations > Major refurbishment or straight boiler replacement? > What are the insulation levels? > What is the existing heating distribution system? > What type of heat emitters?
DESIGNS FOR OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE Selecting heat emitters Underfloor heating Aim for lowest possible water flow temperature to achieve > Highest SCOP > Lowest running costs > Lowest CO2 emissions Fan assisted radiators Water filled radiators
Emitters: underfloor heating Works best with heat pumps Provides near-ideal heat profile with: warmer at foot level, cooler at head level Large surface area so can operate at low flow temperatures – as low as 30oC Temperature in a room heated by UFH can be 2oC lower than one with radiators to achieve the same comfort levels Avoids large, unsightly radiators Great for tiled floors and modern floor finishes No draughts, less dust transport
Emitters: radiators Most common form of heating Typically designed for water temperature of 70oC or more Obtain correction factors to size at lower water temperatures Low temperature radiators up to 45deg flow Steel panel and aluminium radiators suitable for temp applications No radiators covers to be used, as it reduces the output of the radiator 40

Mechanical ventilation and exhaust-air DHW heat pump With the mechanical ventilation function of your heat pump you can ventilate your home and use your polluted inside air to make your heat pump function. How does it work? I. Polluted inside air is extracted Polluted warm air from II. The air is transported to your heat pump. ventilation system III. Heat is extracted from the polluted air. IV. The cooled air is exited through an exhaust pipe Cooled air to Where can I use this feature outside climate I. Apartment building (decentral) II. One or more family houses. When can I apply this feature? I. The air flow ratio of the ventilation system will have to be enough to foresee the heat pump with sufficient air supply II. There can be no interaction possible on the controls of the ventilation system. 48
