20 Council News As summer hits Greater Dandenong Safety in the many residents head to public pools and waterways to keep cool. Not all members of the Greater Dandenong splash zone community have had the opportunity to develop swimming and water safety skills, but it is never too late to develop these important life skills. Our city is home to two public pools, Dandenong Oasis and Noble Park Aquatic Centre (NPAC), which offer a range of swimming programs for people of all ages. Nationally accredited swim teachers provide regular feedback on students’ progress, and as an added benefit students have full access to pools and water play areas outside of lesson times. Even if you are not taking lessons, a visit to the public pool can help increase confidence while swimming in an environment supervised by lifeguards. A subsidised VICSWIM Summer Kidz Program will run at both local pools, offering five 30-minute lessons over one week for just $30. The program offers lessons in swimming basics and water safety instruction for children aged four years and above. Enrolments are now open for the January program. Staying safe by the water is everyone’s responsibility. Never leave your child unattended and remember parents supervise, lifeguards save lives.
