MESSAGE FROM THE CHANCELLOR, UNIVERSITY OF WOLLONGONG May I welcome you all to this presentation ceremony for graduates from the University of Wollongong (UOW). We are proud that this graduation is held in collaboration with Singapore Institute of Management. The achievements of those graduating today add to the growing reputation of the University of Wollongong not only in Singapore and Australia, but also throughout the world. Since its foundation, the University of Wollongong has built an international reputation for world-class research and exceptional teaching quality. The University of Wollongong was ranked among the top 200 universities in the world by its performance in the QS World University Rankings 2021 and among the top 250 universities in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021. These prestigious rankings compare universities across the world on a range of important criteria, including graduate outcomes and research excellence. We are proud to consistently rank among the top 200 universities in the world for the quality of our graduates, recognised again this year in the 2020 QS Graduate Employability Rankings. As new graduates you now become part of UOW’s own proud history and also part of an even older tradition. For nearly 900 years, universities have educated and trained leaders of society and produced ideas and instruments of great social change. We expect that our graduates will continue this contribution and play a leading role in their community. Our investment in universities is justified by the richness which higher education can bring to graduates’ lives and, through them, to the growth and well-being of many others in society. The University wishes you success and fulfilment in your future careers and in your future learning. We hope that your experience of university life and the knowledge and skills you have gained along the way will help you to play a full and active role in your chosen field or profession and in the wider community. Many people at this ceremony today have given their support, encouragement and guidance to you during their studies, and I am pleased that they are here to share in this occasion. I thank you also for your contribution to the success that we are here to celebrate. Graduation marks the conclusion of one stage of your association with the University of Wollongong and the commencement of your lifelong membership of a community of UOW alumni. I encourage you to maintain active and continuing links with your fellow graduates, and the University, through the Alumni Association. May I again extend my best wishes to the graduands for a happy and memorable graduation day. Ms Christine McLoughlin, FAICD Chancellor 1
