The programme, which is all about increasing galley standards onboard, also opens up career development for messmen who are encouraged to progress their training continually to reach chef status. Our Operations Manager, Aileen De Guzman, recently spoke to one of our graduates about his experiences of the programme. CCK Kevin Casicas said: “I am so blessed and honoured to be part of MCDP (Maritime Culinary Catering Development Programme) because the course has strengthened my skillset and MCTC is the reason why I am here right now. What encouraged you to enter the catering management industry? My family’s background is in the shipping industry, so it seemed like a natural progression for me to enter the marine catering market. I’ve spent the last 20 years in shipping, towage and offshore energy, giving me a real understanding of the importance of a healthy and motivated crew, which is the key decisive factor of vessel performance. Life at sea can be tough, but mealtimes bring us all together to bond.
