Dairy Goat Section JUDGE: MRS H. MATTHEWS – NORFOLK Hon. Secretary: MRS JULIA CLARKE Chief Steward: MRS JULIA CLARKE “The Goat Classes are held under the Rules, Regulations, and Recognition of the British Goat Society. All exhibits must be registered with the B.G.S. as in the ownership and in the name of the exhibitor, the registered name and number being quoted on the entry form. (Also the kidding date for goats in milk). All goats in milk must have kidded, not aborted a minimum of 30 days previous to the date of the show.” No Pregnant Goats to be admitted on Showground. “The registered number of any goat, initially entered as R.A.F. (registration applied for), must be submitted to the show organisers before that goat competes.” ALL entries must be accompanied by a Whole Herd C.A.E. Negative Certificate issued during the previous twelve months and current at the date of the show. No entries will be accepted unless the C.A.E. Blood Test results are on the B.G.S. Forms. All female goats in milk for inspection and milking trials MUST be on the Showground not later than 5.00 p.m. on Sunday July 10th and shall be stripped out under the supervision of an appointed Steward by 6.00 p.m. on that day. Kids and goatlings to be on the Showground NOT LATER than 9.00 a.m. on Monday, July 11th. NO animal to be removed from the Showground before 5.00 p.m. on Monday without prior permission from the Section Secretary. At the present time, we do not accommodate the use of milking machines in the Goat Section at Stithians Show. Judging commences at 9.30 a.m. CLASSES 1. Conditions of entry are subject to current DEFRA movement restrictions, and exhibitors must comply with all animal health regulations in force at the time of the show. All goats must be ear tagged in accordance with DEFRA regulations. All exhibits must be registered with the Pygmy Goat Club, with the exception of female kids under 6 months, male kids under 12 months, wethers and pet females. Registration details must be included on the entry form. All exhibitors (except junior handlers) must be current members of the pygmy goat club. No late entries or substitutions will be allowed. All dates to be calculated to the date of the show. Dates of birth and kidding dates to be included on the entry form. No pregnant goats may be admitted to the showground. Goats to have kidded a minimum of 30 days prior to the show. Classes with only 1 entry will be cancelled of if possible amalgamated. No entries to be accepted for goats bred or previously owned by the judge. Pet Section not eligible for Best in Show PRIZE MONEY All Classes: First : £8 – Second : £7 – Third : £6 If 9 or more entries in a class, on the day of the Show, there will be a 4th prize of £4 ENTRY FEES – DAIRY £5.00 PYGMY £4.50 per goat per entry. Would exhibitors specify the minimum number of pens required (wherever possible penning young stock together). Clobber Pens will be provided, space permitting. Entrants will need to supply any additional netting etc., required to contain escapologist kids. No goats or goatlings shall be fed with milk or any recognised milk product or milk substitute and no goats in milk shall receive while on the Showground and stimulant, medicine, drench or hypodermic injection except with the permission and under the supervision of the steward in charge or veterinary surgeon. Any goat receiving any such injection prior to the termination of any milking competition may be ineligible to compete in such competition at that show. Any exhibitor wishing to enter a protest must do so in writing to the Secretary, accompanied by a deposit of £1. If the protest is not sustained, the deposit may be forfeited. If the protest is uphelp and any award winner becomes disqualified, the winner of the next succeeding award shall take the award of the disqualified winner, and the lowest award shall go to the reserve award. No protest can be accepted after the conclusion of the Show, nor will any protest be accepted until all the goats in the particular class have left the ring. The Association Reserves the right to publish names and address of all exhibitors in any competitive competition. Stithians Agricultural Association Ltd Company registered in England 7585178 Charity No. 1141715 Health and Safety Policy Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 GENERAL STATEMENT OF POLICY We commit to operating the Association in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all applicable legislation made under the Act ‘So far as is reasonably practicable’. Our policy is to ensure that the Show is operated in a safe manner for all our employees, volunteers and the general public, and to provide such information, training and supervision as is needed for this purpose. We also accept our responsibility for the health and safety of other people who may be affected by our activities. The Association acknowledges that the Show is likely to attract those who may be vulnerable and will consider them in their risk assessment of the event. The Board of Trustees acknowledge that Health and Safety responsibilities within the Association are of equal importance as other priorities and will ensure resources are available to manage health and safety. Although the Board of Trustees accept responsibility for the implementation of the policy, it relies on individual employees/volunteers to accept their own duty and responsibility to themselves, fellow workers and others who might be injured/affected by their acts or omissions. The Board of Trustees have nominated the Chairman and a representative from the Showyard Directors as signatories of the Health and Safety Policy. A signed copy of the full Health and Safety Policy Statement and a copy of the Show’s organisational chart is available from the Show Office. The policy will be kept up to date, and appropriate to the Association’s activities. To ensure this, the policy will be monitored and reviewed every year or more frequently if required. SAFETY INFORMATION AND GUIDANCE All Exhibitors must comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all relevant legislation and guidance. Animal exhibitors must also comply with the Animal Welfare Act 2018 and any relevant codes of practice, guidance, etc., provided by the relevant governing body organisations. Further safety information is contained within the Stithians Show Health and Safety Manual which is made available to those exhibiting at the Show. SHOW SECURITY The Association’s appointed security contractor will provide night cover between 19:00 and 07:00 from the Monday before the Show and then 24/7 from 07:00 on the Sunday until 07:00 on the Tuesday after the Show. The Showground is large, with multiple entrances and the security officials cannot be in all areas, at all times. The Association will not be responsible for the safe custody of any article brought for exhibition, nor will they be liable for any loss or damage that may occur to any article. Exhibitors and those visiting the Show are reminded to take care of their belongings and stock and to report any suspicious behaviour to the Security Team. H & S Schedules Catalogue V1 - March, 2022
FIRE SAFETY All catering outlets or trade stands must assess the risk of fire and provide fire prevention equipment where any potential ignition sources are present. BBQs are not permitted on the Showground. FIRST AID/MEDICAL If you are setting up prior to the Sunday of the Show or packing up after the Monday you are advised to ensure you have a first aid kit available. On Show day the Association’s First Aid contractor will be on site. The nearest A & E Department is at The Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske, Truro TR1 3LQ. Minor Injury Units are located at Camborne Redruth Community Hospital, Barncoose, Redruth, TR15 3ER and Falmouth Hospital, Trescobeas Road, Falmouth, TR11 2JA; both of which require you to contact NHS 111 by phone or online prior to visiting. All accidents/incidents and near misses must be reported to the Show’s Health and Safety Adviser who is contactable by radio or via the Show Office. GAS SAFETY Any fixed installation gas equipment (cookers, pipework, valves etc.) must comply with the provisions of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. All catering vans / marquees with gas installation MUST have a Gas Safety Certificate issued by a competent Gas Safe Engineer and dated within the last 12 months. A copy of the certificate MUST BE provided to the organisers prior to entry to the event. Crimped connection fittings must be used rather than jubilee clips. Further information can be found on the Nationwide Caterers Association website The Gas Safety Checklist - The Do’s and Don’ts - NCASS ELECTRICAL SUPPLY Legislation requires electrical equipment to be maintained in good condition and for it to be suitable for the environment in which it is to be used. All portable electrical equipment brought onto the Showground must be maintained in good condition and where required evidence of portable appliance testing must be made available to our Officers. The Show reserves the right to remove from use any equipment that they deem to be unsafe. Further information is available from the HSE website https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/books/ hsg107.htm DIESEL AND LPG GENERATORS The use of diesel and LPG generators is permitted provided modern, quiet equipment is used. Stand-alone petrol generators are not permitted. Petrol generators that are professionally built in as part of an operating unit may be used. The Association reserves the right to request any generator that is unsafe or causing a nuisance from fumes be switched off and removed. SHOWGROUND TRAFFIC All Showground traffic must give priority to pedestrians and riders and strictly observe speed restrictions at times when such movement is permitted. The speed limit on site is 10 mph. During the Show all Showground roadways must be kept clear of any obstruction to allow unimpeded access by emergency vehicles. There is no unauthorised vehicle movement permitted between the hours of 09:00 and 18:00. Livestock exhibitors: may leave the Showground prior to 18:00 hours, subject to the approval of a Showyard Director and notification to the Section Secretary (where movement is to enable compliance with Animal Welfare Regulations). The Livestock dispersal will be strictly controlled. OPENING HOURS Trade and Craft Stand Exhibitors are required to remain open until 18:00 and MUST NOT attempt to leave the Showground before that time. Those found to be packing up early and attempting to leave the Showground may find that their application is refused for future shows. MAJOR INCIDENT PLANNING (SITE EVACUATION) In the event of a major incident where it is necessary to evacuate the site or part of the site, please follow all signs and instructions from the organisers and Emergency Services. ALL people will be requested to evacuate the site, until it is deemed safe to return. The Association accepts no responsibility for any property or livestock or any person or persons who fail to comply with the request to evacuate the Showground. (Animal Escape) Animals are unpredictable and do occasionally break free. Please get yourself and others under your control to safety in a quiet and calm manner and allow those involved in the recapture to do this unimpeded. PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE Whilst the Association has its public liability cover in place it is only for its own protection. All exhibitors must have their own public liability insurance which covers them for attendance at the Stithians Show.
