GENERAL Recognize someone’s outstanding Library service by nominating them today… The Lethbridge Public Library Board of Directors believes in recognizing and celebrating the contributions that individuals and organizations make towards the Library. These efforts enhance our services, and help us work to ensure that the Library is a welcoming, inclusive space that connects and strengthens our community. Nominations are being accepted for the Lethbridge Public Library Board Recognition Award. This award recognizes an individual or organization that has provided a significant contribution to library services in Lethbridge, by helping to advance the mission, vision or values of the Library through their work with the Library and relationship with the community. Nominees must: • Have had a close tie to the Library and have been actively involved in enhancing one or more services • Have had a positive and lasting impact on how the community views the Library • Possess a sense of dedication and enthusiasm for the involvement they have with the Library This award is presented annually. GENERAL Online Resources With Your Lethbridge Public Library Card While access to our buildings may be limited, we have a number of amazing online resources you can access right from the comfort of your couch with your Lethbridge Public Library card. Libby is our app for all things e-Books and e-audiobooks. We have thousands of titles for children, teens, and adults that can be downloaded onto your device. Creativebug offers online videos, arts and crafts workshops and techniques. Learn how to paint, knit, crochet, sew, screen print, and so much more. hoopla offers a wide range of movies and TV shows for streaming, as well as a variety of books and audio books. There’s no wait for items as everything is available for immediate download. You are, however, limited to five downloads per month. PressReader allows you to have access to thousands of newspapers from all around the world. Have the Lethbridge Herald automatically download to your device each morning so you can enjoy it with your coffee. Flipster offers Library customers the ability to download popular magazines, with a number of options to choose from. TumbleBook Library offers hundreds of popular children’s books read aloud for children, who can follow along as pictures and graphics are displayed on the screen, as well as read along titles for children to practise their reading. And for some fun, there are puzzles and games. These and many other online resources are available at any time by visiting lethlib.ca/digital-content. GENERAL Learn Something New with Lethbridge Public Library Lethbridge Public Library offers the perfect resources to engage in lifelong learning opportunities online, and now is a perfect opportunity to enroll in one of the many resources the Library offers. Gale Courses offers a wide range of highly interactive and instructor-led courses that you can take entirely online. As a Library customer in good standing, you are able to take these courses at no cost. Courses run an average of six weeks. New sessions begin every month. Pronunciator offers interactive lessons to help you learn a new language, including self-directed activities, teacher-led conversation classes, quizzes, and pronunciation practice. You can follow along at your own pace, or download the app on your phone. There are also options for young learners 7–12 years of age, and options for beginners, intermediate, and advanced courses. SOLARO is a homework help tool, based on the Alberta education curriculum. It offers study help and exam preparation for students in Grades 3–12. In our brand-new, 4-week comics club, you will create your own cool characters, draw original comics, and become a confident cartoonist! ADULT Adult International Collection We are excited to share that, Lethbridge Public Library now has its very own Adult International Collection. The collection is located at the Main Branch, behind the Customer Service Desk. The collection will include fiction and non-fiction in French, Spanish, German, Dutch, Nepali, Arabic, Vietnamese, and Tagalog. You can find titles by searching for the language in our catalogue. These are available through Curbside Pick Up. TEEN Read the World A 2021 Teen Challenge Travel the world without leaving your home in 2021! Take part in our year-long teen challenge: read a book written by someone from every continent, and take part in special global travel programming throughout 2021. Starting January 4, you can download a Reading Passport from lethlib.ca/teen. Mark off the books you read through the year, and keep an eye out for bonus challenges! If you complete the passport by December, you’ll be invited to a very special celebration event. January and February feature events: Teen Book Club selections from 2 different continents Virtual travel experiences for Italy and Peru Open to anyone in Grades 7 – 12 with a Lethbridge Public Library or Chinook Arch library membership.
