‘Ad Vitam Paramus’ ‘We are Preparing for Life’. Ambition Follow us on Twitter @westcravenhigh Friday 8 January 2021 We can be followed @WestCravenHighSchool “Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in.” Bill Bradle Key Messages First of all, Happy New Year. I hope this E-Bulletin finds you and your family well and in positive spirits as we continue to deal with the complex and fast moving challenges of COVID-19. I have been overwhelmed by the mature and caring response shown by our students following the announcement of our school closure on Monday evening and by the offers of support above and beyond all expectations from parents and staff. I thank you, too, for your patience as we improve our online learning experience as we move to increasing live lessons through Microsoft Teams. Should your child have any queries about how to access live lessons, a short video tutorial can be found here: https://www.westcraven.co.uk/remote-learning-and-live-lessons/1137.html We will continue to use the ClassCharts website and mobile App to schedule lessons and set work where teachers are unable to host live lessons. I know that many students in Year 11 will be disappointed by the Government’s late decision to cancel this summer’s GCSE examinations. However, I want to reassure everyone that last year we implemented a robust procedure of gathering evidence in awarding our Centre Assessed Grades which were used by the examination boards in determining final GCSE grades. Our judgements were both fair and objective and reflected the grades we believed a student would have achieved had they sat their exams as usual. OFQUAL will be consulting with schools from next week and I will keep you updated. We will be hosting a virtual meet your form tutor event on the evening of Wednesday 27 January. This will be an opportunity for you and your child to catch up with their form tutor to discuss how they are engaging with their school work and to seek advice, guidance and support. We will be opening our online booking system shortly and I will write to you with further details on how to book a slot. I thank you for your continued support. Please contact us if you need any advice or assistance from school; we are there to support you in any way we can. In closing, I would like to express my gratitude and say a fond farewell on behalf of all of us to Stuart Wright our Office Manager who leaves us next week to take up a post in HR. He personifies all our school core values and has supported staff, students and their families admirably in his time with us. We wish him luck in the future and I am sure he will keep in touch. Best wishes Mrs Tracy Foy Principal
