MESSAGE FROM KARI COWART EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Greetings, Foss Park District residents! Our program guide is sure to be packed with programs and activities to keep you busy. The staff at the Foss Park District Board Community Recreation Center has missed all of you, so be sure to stop by of to see all the programs that are offered or just say hello. Commissioners If you did not have a chance to stop by the brand new Citizens Park (421 Kenneth Robinson 10th Street) this past summer, be sure to visit to check out playground Kingston Neal equipment! Also, Coles Park (14th Street & Renken Avenue) has new Johnny Johnson equipment so swing over there too! Youth Programming The Children’s Drawing Literacy Academy Learn to Draw Name of Class: "From Sketching to Drawing" - In-Person Art Classes Purpose: Bring a dynamic course to the community to keep our youth off the streets and engaged in learning a field/trade that will bring them their future carrier or entrepreneurship opportunity. Ages: Class 1) 5-10 years old and class 2) 11-17 years old Course/Class Structure: 1) Each Class will constitute 60-minute sessions for 5 consecutive weeks (excluding holidays) 2) Each new program/class will incorporate a theme. Each week the students will learn and practice new skills to work towards the final project. 3) Weekly Curriculum Example: Week 1: Introduction to Sketching Basic Shapes - 10/02/2021 Week 2: Lighting and Shading - 10/09/2021 The theme will be given to the students during the first class. Latchkey Latchkey Before and After School The Foss Park District Latchkey is a youth development organization that provides activities such as: educational games, field trips, cooking, tutoring, mentoring and computer classes to help youth achieve their fullest potential. Latchkey Hours are between 6:30am-5:30pm. We offer free transportation service : Pickup and Drop -off to and from schools in District 187 and Charter Schools. Our Latchkey program serves Chil- dren ages 5-14 years old, assisting them with physical, emotional , social development and support, through promoting health & wellness living , and physical activities in dance & art classes. We also offer Healthy food snacks in partnership with the Northern Food Bank. YWCA & DCFS accepted. Cost $80.00 per week or $40 per week for just mornings or afternoons.
