Harvest Unit 773-502-0009-A - Disenchantment FOREST OPERATIONS COUPE PLAN - SECTION 2 Contractor Section - Contractor Direction 5.1 Marking a coupe The coupe has been marked using a GPS, Flagging Tape, a Rangefinder and a Clino. Starting where Mt Delusion Tk leaves Mt Delusion Rd the boundary marked in Blue, follows Mt Delusion Tk to the west and up slope for approximately 860m. Then the boundary heads South following a spur down to Mt Delusion Rd almost 560m away. Once it meets the road the taped in Blue still follow the road to the NE. 20m before a small dam beside Mt Delusion Rd is reached the tapes change to Pink to provide a 20m buffer of the dam as the boundary heads North above the dam. The tapes then change to Orange to filter a drainage line as the boundary heads to the east above a old unused hut and then back to Mt Delusion Rd. Once on the road the tapes revert back to Blue and follow the Rd a short distance before dropping off the road and along a drainage line following the wood to the south, keeping over 20m from the drainage line. At the most southern point of the TRP shape the tapes change to Pink to buffer a gully that comes in from the NE, this gully has running water in it and has a 20m buffer on it as the tapes start to make the way up slope and along the gully to the NE. Chasing the wood the tapes come away from the gully, then change to Blue and follow the edge of the wood to the NE. An internal gully is found and has a 10m filter in Orange placed over it as it heads back into the coupe. Once the filter returns to the TRP boundary the tapes change to Blue again and follow the wood to an old fire trail of an old coupe. This trail is then followed back to the starting point marked in Blue tape. 5.2 Construction of boundary trails A boundary trial is to be constructed around the coupe prior to any harvesting taking place 5.3 Location of Boundary Trails No variation in standard to the Utilisation Procedures 5.4 Converting boundary trail to fire trail The Boundary trail is to be progressively converted into a fire trail as harvesting is completed along that section at Vic forests expence. All Habitat clusters are to be protceted with a 3m wide mineral earth trail surounding them. All trees within one tree length of a boundary trail are to be either felled or cleared around with a mineral earth trail 6. Harvest Unit 773-502-0009-A - Disenchantment FOREST OPERATIONS COUPE PLAN - SECTION 2 Contractor Section - Contractor Direction 6.1 Activities in excluded areas A Contractor must not, in any excluded area: (i) fell any tree or damage any tree ; or (ii) allow any felled tree to fall or slide into the area; or (iii) allow debris to accumulate; or (iv) allow any machine to enter the area, except where that action has been both authorised by a VicForests representative and recorded on the Forest Coupe Plan or coupe diary. (b) A Contractor must not remove any tree or part of any tree which falls or slides into an excluded area, unless that action has been both authorised by a VicForests representative and recorded on the coupe diary. 7. Harvest requirements 7.1 Retained Trees Extreme care should be taken to avoid disturbance to all habitat clusters. Any HBT 1 trees identified outside the clusters should be retained with an additional 4 recruitment trees within close proximity ( 30-50 m) Retain a minimum of 5 trees per ha between clusters Harvesting debris must not accumulate within 3m of the base of any retained trees. 7.2 Large Tree Protection All trees that have a measurment >2.5 m DBHOB are retained and protected with a 20m buffer from all timber harvesting operations 7.3 Trees to be felled Only merchantable trees are to be priotised for harvesting, outside of habitat clusters. All others are to remain as habitat/retention trees 7.4 Stump heights No variation in standard to the Utilisation Procedures 7.6 Coupe utilisation requirements No variation in standard to the Utilisation Procedures 9. Thinning requirements 9.2 Trees to be retained 9.3 Thinning method 9.4 Damage 10. Harvest Unit 773-502-0009-A - Disenchantment FOREST OPERATIONS COUPE PLAN - SECTION 2 Contractor Section - Contractor Direction Habitat Description and Marking A Habitat Tree Survey was conducted on this coupe. The coupe was not burnt in the 2019/2020 bushfires. VicForests will treat this area as Clear-fell with Retention. Where safe to do so, any Individual HBT 1 trees identified during operations are to be retained and an additional 4 recruitment trees left in close proximity. Non-merchantable trees will also be retained where safe to do so. Where HBT1s are not present, HBT2s and HBT3s will be retained to consider habitat linkages and connectivity in the harvested area Retain an average minimum of 5 habitat trees per ha within the harvestable area through retained habitat patches and dispersed retention, which will prioritise protection of values such as hollow- bearing trees, yellow-bellied glider feed trees and dense understorey vegetation. Where applicable, non-merchantable (cull) trees that are not felled for safety considerations will be retained. All boundaries, filters and buffers were planned according to the required Code of Practice prescriptions. Contractors will be briefed regarding the guidelines outlined in this retention plan and in the identification of specific species and habitat values during operations. Where habitat patches haven't been marked in the field, they will be included on the harvesters tablets within the harvesters Habitat trees will be retained... Scenario . Outside the harvesting tapes, but within the 'gross coupe boundary' Yes . As individual trees along the edge, outside the harvested area No .
