Esther F. Garrison School for the Arts 2021 – 2022 Theatre Audition Requirements Tips for a Professional and Great Virtual Audition • All auditionees need to be standing upright. Blocking should be included and may involve multiple levels that might require a chair. • Be sure you have front lighting. • Make sure you are projecting your voice because you’ll be further away from your microphone. • Be aware of your surroundings – backgrounds should be clutter and noise free. • Cameras should be placed fully in front of you showing your full body. Your camera should not be placed where you will be looking in a downward angle. • Your audition should begin with a slate. A slate is where the auditionee clearly states their full name, monologue title or character name, and resource where the monologue/play was chosen or play it is from. • No props or costumes – props and costumes during a monologue tend to cause more distractions. • Students should dress to impress – this is like a job interview, so please dress accordingly. • Practice, practice, practice. You should practice HOW and WHERE you will be performing your audition, in advance, by following the above recommendations. The more you have settled prior to your audition, the more smoothly your audition will go. Monologue Each candidate will memorize and perform a 30-45 second monologue. The monologue must be from a published play or published monologue anthology (for teens or children). Samples of monologues that are approved and may be used are available on the Theatre page of the Garrison website under “Shared Documents” on the left-hand side. No poems, original works, or screenplays will be accepted. The monologue is worth 0-50 points.
