FIM Europe MAG 02/2013 Senior Activity Meeting in Hlohovec The success of the 2nd Senior Activity Meeting repeated the positive outcome of last year in Salsomaggiore Terme. This year edition, held in the historical city of Hlohovec (Slovakia), registered a good number of participants and the presence of important speakers, whose presentations managed to attract the attention of the many two-wheels enthusiasts arrived in Hlohovec from the rest of Europe and to focus their attention towards possible solutions that could guarantee a prolonged active live on two wheels above 60 years of age. Many speakers arrived in Hlohovec with their bike and this helped in a more involvement of attending motorcyclists, who took highly in consideration the ideas and recommendations provided by them. The Meeting was included in the agenda of the celebration for the 900 years of the Slovakian city and this fact contributed to give an additional importance to the event. This initiative, promoted by FIM Europe, demonstrated its capacity to attract the interest of those who love to travel with their bike and that, despite their age, show no sign to give up the pleasure to ride a two-wheel motorcycle for transportation, sport, free-time and tourism. 1 FIM Europe MAG 02/2013 SENIOR ACTIVITY MEETING IN HLOHOVEC From 24 to 26 May in Hlohovec - Slovakia took place the 2nd European Motorcycling Senior Activity Meeting, including in the program the 2nd Conference "Extending the riding age". The FIM Europe launched last year, with the first edition held in Salsomaggiore Terme (Italy), this new initiative dedicated to over 60 bikers not only to increase life expectancy, but above all because at this age you have an active life free from any form of disability. For this reason the FIM Europe has decided to pay special attention to this age group trying to provide all the information in order for those riders to remain active and fully involved in the Motorcycle World both in activities related to Vintage and in those related to tourism. In fact, in the program of the event, were included an exhibition on Saturday and a parade of valuable historic motorcycles as well as a tour of about 100 Km to Nove Mesto and Piestany that led participants to also visit two interesting museums: one of vintage cars and motorcycles and one of vintage American Military vehicles. Despite the bad weather that has plagued Europe in those days, the event was attended by many bikers including a delegation from Motoclub Roma who was celebrating its 100th anniversary and three Directors of Motoclub Fidenza, which next year will take care of the organization of the 3rd Meeting in Salsomaggiore Terme - Italy. Much appreciated has been the participation of a special guest, the Motorcycle Champion Pier Paolo Bianchi. The Conference of the Sunday morning was opened by the SMF President Mr. Peter Smizik, the Major of the City of Hlohovec Mr. Peter Dvoran, the Classic Club President Mr. Peter Balaz and FIM Europe Vice-President Mr. Luigi Favarato. 2 FIM Europe MAG 02/2013 SENIOR ACTIVITY MEETING IN HLOHOVEC The FIM Europe Secretary General, Dr. Alessandro Sambuco, presented the report - "The Motorcycling Senior Activity in Europe: how to extend the riding age" in which it is shown that over 60 you can expect to live an average of 13 more years without disability. But the vintage motorcycling is also tourism because you can visit classic sports events & gatherings, visit cities and places where you have never been, you can visit famous racing Peter Balaz entertaining the audience during the Gala circuits and know them from the inside traveling Dinner through European countries. It means also vintage motorcycling is friendship because everywhere you go where vintage motorcycles are Involved You will make friends and many of these friendships will last for a lifetime. Vintage motorcycling is also an investment. By now we all know how fast money can disappear, companies disappear, even banks, Those solid institutions from the 20th century, disappear so fast. Your motorcycle in your garage will never disappear. A Classic Motorcycle, original and well maintained today is a great investment, something that will always bring your money back with a nice capital gain. Prof. Oreste Moreschini in the presentation "The Ergonomics of the Motorcyclist: the potential of the Orthopaedics" starts from an ergonomic analysis to determine which type of motorcycle is more suitable to the subject, whereas exist any column or joints pathologies. Moreschini concluded his speech with an overview of both surgical and conservative orthopedic solutions for the most common diseases related to the over 60. Dr. Stefano Ricevuti introduced the ICE-KEY In case of Emergency. Dr. Elena Durisova presented a typical disease of the over 60 age, osteoporosis for which they are indicated definition, etiology, diagnosis and therapy. Ing Milan Hamar of the Ministry of the Interior - Traffic Police, pointed out some statistics on motorcycle accidents in Slovakia, analyzing the regulatory and control systems. Lieutenant Colonel Ing Adrian Malega, Commander of the Multifunctional Battalion outlined tasks, means and equipment of the garrison of Hlohovec, which has also offered assistance to the Senior Activity Meeting. The appointment for the 3rd edition is then fixed in Salsomaggiore Terme 24 and 25 May 2014. It was, in fact, decided that the event, at least for the first few years, should take place in alternate years to the towns of Salsomaggiore Terme and Hlohovec. For the next edition of the Meeting will be scheduled to meet with the artisans involved in the restoration of vintage motorcycles and a new Tour.
