Welcome to Brisbane Welcome to the inaugural Brisbane Cycling Festival, proudly supported by the Queensland Government via Tourism and Events Queensland. This event combines professional, amateur and mass participation events which will showcase Brisbane’s state- of-the-art cycling facilities and some of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Brisbane is a growing hub for world-class sporting events, most recently hosting Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games cycling competition at the purpose-built Anna Meares Velodrome, which will play host to parts of the Brisbane Cycling Festival. The city also offers visitors a relaxed outdoor lifestyle with scenic bikeways, bustling riverside culture and thriving food scene. Right on the doorstep of the city are spectacular islands, beaches and nature experiences for those wanting to further explore the region. The Hon Kate Jones MP I invite you to experience Brisbane first-hand and mark this exciting new event on your competition calendar. Minister for Tourism Industry Development You’ll have the ride of your life during the Brisbane Cycling Festival. Our New World City is excited to host this inaugural event. Brisbane is a great place to live, work, and relax – it’s a safe, vibrant, green and prosperous city, valued for its friendly, optimistic character and enjoyable subtropical lifestyle. We are blessed with an enviable outdoor climate, a strong cycling culture and a comprehensive network of cycle paths and bikeways that extends right across our beautiful city. Explore Brisbane through pedal-power and discover pristine parklands, outdoor adventures, great shopping and amazing cultural attractions. Enjoy all that Brisbane has to offer. I wish all participants the best of luck during the Brisbane Cycling Festival. Graham Quirk Lord Mayor of Brisbane
Anna Meares was the first Australian athlete to win a medal at four different Olympic Games during her career. Her cycling career began in the Rockhampton Cycling club, working her way through the Cycling Queensland High-Performance Pathway. From there she went on to achieve great things on the world stage and is now a 3-time Olympian, 2-time Olympic Champion with 5 Olympic medals, a 10-time World Champion across four different disciplines and 5-time Commonwealth Games Champion. Meares said that the festival was an opportunity to celebrate Cycling in Brisbane and Queensland, with a great collection of events attracting the world’s best track and road cyclists to town. Anna Meares Cycling Queensland is looking forward to welcoming the world to Brisbane, and assisting to launch the inaugural Brisbane Cycling Festival in 2019. Whether you are riding, racing or watching – there’s something for everyone and we want you to come along for the ride! The Brisbane Cycling Festival aligns with Cycling Queensland’s values; providing Queenslanders more opportunities and confidence to ride their bikes, to encourage more people to live out a healthy and active lifestyle, and for people to experience the many positives that come from cycling, including social and wellbeing benefits. Cycling Queensland is keen to see Queensland positioned as the number one state when it comes to events, cycling tourism and development. This Festival goes a long way to achieving those aims and we are ecstatic to be a part of it. Please enjoy Brisbane, and enjoy the Brisbane Cycling Festival. Sean Muir CEO Cycling Queensland
