FESTIVAL OF WORK IN DEVELOPMENT 2018 FESTIVAL PACKAGE VISION Festival of Work in Development is a three day school wide event platforming work in development and strengthening a performative research culture. The Festival is an invitation to Toi whakaari students, Alumni and selected artists to present an enquiry event, live performance or screen practice. The festival wants to offer artists a point of engagement with a live audience that can be structured to meet their independent investigation needs. The festival audience will include current Toi Whakaari students, alumni and guests invited by artists necessary to participate with or review their investigations. FWD / FESTIVAL PACKAGE / 1
DATES Tuesday 28th, Wednesday 29th + Thursday 30th August 2018 VENUES Mezzanine level DRAMA 4 (D4) Large studio. In built sound system. Fairly removed from general building traffic. DESIGN FOYER Small alcove between classrooms. Lots of natural light. Ground floor DRAMA 1 (D1) Large studio. In built sound system. Has ability to be blacked out. Rigged for lighting - Will need pre-focusing. A projector + screen will be available for presentation. DRAMA 2 (D2) Large studio. In built sound system. Natural light. Effective black curtains. Monitor. MEETING ROOM Small space. Glass walls for view in from plaza - blinds can stop view in. TV in space. Small sound system for computer in space. PLAZA Large space. Lots of foot traffic. Limited rigging points available. Natural light. LIBRARY Shared space. Projection system and screen in space. Sound system. Monitor available in backroom. TE WHAEA THEATRE Large black box theatre. Basement level SCREEN LAB Small theatre space. Can have lighting and sound rigged. SEEYD SPACE Small theatre space. Full LED (colour changing) lighting rig with lighting console (desk).Sound system with mixing board available. DRAMA 10 (D10) Large garage space. In built sound system. BASEMENT THEATRE Large black box theatre. Sound systems with mixing board available. Bluetooth sub and full range. Lighting can be rigged. MARSHALL LOUNGE (Common Room) Large common area. Natural light. Room for stage to be installed. FWD / FESTIVAL PACKAGE / 3
REHEARSALS Artist will be offered limited rehearsal times in spaces within Te Whaea, pre-selected by the FWD Team. These conversations will take place and rehearsals will be scheduled in the weeks leading up to the festival. FRAMES STAND IT UP Work on the floor e.g short film, performance. Ready to be tested in front of an audience. STAND IT UP AND JAM Show work on the floor accompanied by a conversation. Could be open to anybody or a selected audience. WORKING SESSION Invitation for others to see the process of working being developed live e.g open rehearsal or filming PITCH Practice pitching to a large group or specific individuals towards gathering a team or support around a piece of work. FORUM Space to bring forward a conversation you’re interested in having OPEN Flexible performance state - Now is the time to share that thing you just gotta get out. FWD / FESTIVAL PACKAGE / 4
HOW TO APPLY Fill out application form and submit online by 22nd June 2018 To ensure you apply for the correct category, see the options below: MANA-AKI Are you pitching for… A potentially significant event for larger Toi Whakaari community An event expecting an audience of 50+ or whole school event Needing Medium-High level of Technical crew support Has looked like: A fully staged Drag-show, an opening or closing ceremony, a full length cabaret, a late evening musical with pizza and beer. Could also look like: An invited special guest held in conversation with the whole school, a curated screening of multiple films, a large scale designed installation, a live interactive workspace and any other ideas you may have. KAI-TIAKI Are you pitching for… An event expecting an audience of under but up to 50 people Needing Low to Medium technical crew support? No more than 3 pieces of technical equipment? (e.g projector + light + speakers = 3 pieces) Has looked like: a film in development, a bathroom band, a product launch, an open rehearsal, a small scale installation, a private showing of live semi-realised performance. Could also look like: A live interview, an art talk or pitch, a live test. AKI AKI Are you pitching for… An event expecting an audience of under but up to 20 people Needing no technical support. Has looked like: Roaming character tests, a short acoustic session, poetry readings Could also look like: an art talk or forum, an exhibition of visual artworks FWD / FESTIVAL PACKAGE / 5
