General Information MISSION STATEMENT The goal of the Township of Morris Parks & Recreation Department is to provide recreation and leisure opportunities for Township residents of all ages. The Township is proud to offer a wide variety of recreational programs and park facilities for the entire community. PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE The Township Committee appoints the Township of Morris Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee. There are 21 members, each member is appointed for a 2-year term. The Advisory Committee meets the 3rd Thursday of selected months at 7:00 PM at the Township of Morris Municipal Building. The committee is responsible for the review and implementation of long-range plans for recreation pro- grams and parks. This includes park and program needs assessments, facility development, volunteer support, and liaison with local recreation providers. REGISTRATION AND GENERAL INFORMATION 1. Township of Morris residents have first preference for program registrations. 2. All participants must register on-line at https://register.communitypass.net/morristownship or in person at the Parks & Recreation Office. Unless noted, no registrations will be taken at program sites. 3. Registration is limited in some programs to a first-come, first-serve basis. 4. Programs with insufficient registrations will be canceled. 5. Please be aware that unforeseen circumstances, such as inclement weather or school programs, may cause program changes. 6. Check the Township of Morris website for information and updates: www.morristwp.com. 7. Fees for programs will not be pro-rated for late registrations. Once a program begins, there are no refunds. 9. Please note that e-mails will be sent when programs are canceled due to unexpected school clos- ings and inclement weather. 10. Please make note of your registration dates and times. The Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to make program changes. REGISTRATION FOR ACTIVITIES Please read the following instructions to register for Parks and Recreation activities: 1. Registrations are accepted on-line at https://register.communitypass.net/morristownship, or at the Parks & Recreation Office 973-326-7371. Payment may be made by check (payable to the Township of Morris Parks & Recreation Department) and sent to 50 Woodland Avenue, P.O. Box 7603, Convent Station, NJ 07961-7603. In person cash payments must be the exact amount only. Please do not mail cash. There will be no over-the-phone registration. 2. All fees must be paid at time of registration and prior to class start time. 3. Refunds/credits will be given if the Parks & Recreation Department cancels a program. 4. Request for refunds must be in writing and received 5 days prior to the program start date. 5. Once a program begins there will be NO refunds issued. Note: The Parks & Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel, change, or consolidate programs as the need arises due to unforeseen circumstances and insufficient enrollment.
Scheduling Information IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT PROGRAM CANCELATIONS PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN MORRIS TOWNSHIP PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT AND THE MORRIS SCHOOL DISTRICT. Parks & Recreation Department programs at school buildings are held pending availability of facilities. Since school sponsored activities may pre-empt Parks & Recreation Department programs, some cancelations occur. All school buildings are closed to our pro- grams during school vacations and all three-day holiday weekends. Cancelations of Parks & Recreation Department programs due to weather conditions are announced by the Parks & Recreation Department via E-Mail though Community Pass or Telephone line 973-326-7370 option 4 for ball field conditions and program cancelations. The recording is generally updated each day at 3:00 PM as necessary due to weather conditions. 2019-2020 FALL/WINTER PROGRAM CANCELATION DATES The Township of Morris Parks and Recreation Department takes pride in presenting the 2018-2019 Fall and Winter Recreation Schedule. A number of programs are offered for all ages to enrich your leisure hours. Schools are closed on the following days. Senior Recreation Activities MORRIS TOWNSHIP SENIOR CITIZENS’ CLUB Township of Morris Residents, 60 years of age or older are eligible to join the Join in the Fun Senior Citizens’ Club, which allows the opportunity to establish great lasting com- SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTER radeships. Early Spring Events GIRLS’ FIELD HOCKEY CLINIC The Girls’ Field Hockey Clinic will start Saturday, April 4th and run until Sat- urday, May 9th at Green Field from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM. Girls 10 - 14 are eligible to participate. Emphasis is placed on skills, game rules, conditioning and fun. Registration fee is $35.00 per child. SPRING T-BALL Registration will be available online at https://register.communitypass.net/mor- ristownship starting February 1st. Teams are formed based on availability of parent volunteer coaches. Boys and girls between the ages of 5-7 are eligi- ble to play. Children must be 5 years of age by August 31, 2020. Emphasis is placed on instruction, recreation, and sportsmanship. In order to continue to have a good t-ball season we will need parents to register to volunteer as coaches also available on CommunityPass. You will choose your practice field close to home for a practice time from 4:30 PM- 6:00 PM. Practices begin in April and games will begin late April, weather permitting. Registration fee is $30.00 per child payable at time of registration. DEADLINE is March 27, 2020. As of this date, all team rosters are completed & sent to the coaches, who in turn call all team members to notify them of all T-ball details: times, dates, & places of practices. Also, at this time, shirts & hats are ordered to insure that uniforms are ready for the FIRST BIG GAME! COACHES CLINIC ATTENTION ALL NEW SPORTS COACHES! The Township of Morris re- quires that all new youth sport coaches take the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. course. The program runs for 3 hours from 6:30 to 9:30 PM and costs $45 per resident; $50/non-resident. The Township of Morris will sponsor a clinic at the Municipal Building, 50 Woodland Avenue.
