Courses September 17, 2021 Where is God in All of This? 9 AM to 4 PM Spirituality and Recovery Greg Krausz, MA, CAADC, LPC Where is God in all of this? A question that often presents itself to people in the midst of challenges and changes. Even more so for those entering recovery from substance use. This training will focus on understanding what spirituality is and isn't and the differences between spirituality and religion. Ideas on how to integrate spirituality into services, spiritual practices and how to utilize spirituality to aid in recovery will be discussed. Objectives: Participants will: Identify definitions of religion, spirituality, addiction Identify spiritual practices that can assist in recovery Understand how spirituality influences and supports recovery practice Identify skills to integrate spirituality into counseling Biography Greg Krausz is a Licensed Pr ofessional Counselor and CAADC. He is the Director of Mid Atlantic Rehabilitation Services (MARS) in Bethlehem, PA. Greg is also owner of Monocacy Counseling Associates, an Adjunct Faculty member at Moravian Theological Seminary, and a Consultant/Trainer with the Council on Compulsive Gambling of PA. Greg is a member of First Baptist Church in Bethlehem, PA and a graduate of Moravian Theological Seminary in 2002 with a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Counseling. Greg has been a counselor and program director in the addiction and mental health counseling field for the past 26 years. He was awarded the 2016 Bishop Kortz award for excellence in the field of Pastoral Counseling from Moravian Theological Seminary. Page 2
Courses October 8, 2021 Ethics: Current Issues, 9 AM to 4 PM Quandaries and Quagmires Eric Webber, MA, CADC, ASAT, CCPG This course provides an overview of counseling ethics with a focus on present-day real world issues that immerge and challenge the provider. Issues such as self-disclosure, technology, and touch will be examined and discussed. Participants will work through practice vignettes that are based on real life occurrences in the workplace. This course has been updated from when it was previously presented in 2018. Objectives: Learn the origin of ethics and how to apply it today to real world issues Learn and understand the difference between various disciplines’ ethical standards Practice ethical application to present day problems and dilemmas Biography Eric Webber is the Senior Clinical Advisor for the Gr and View Program and the Legal/Executive Professional Program at Caron Treatment Centers. He provides direct care through specialty lectures and counseling sessions focused on relapse, Addiction Interaction Disorders, work/ professional related issues, and other targeted needs. Eric conducts the Executive/Professional Group and aids in the Legal Professionals’ Program. Outside of Caron, Eric is a trainer for the Pennsylvania Certification Board, the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs, and other private agencies. Eric is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor and holds a Certificate of Competency in Problem Gambling, both through the Pennsylvania Certification Board. He is also certified as an Associate Sex Addiction Therapist through the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Kutztown University and a Master’s Degree from Alvernia University. Page 3
Courses CRS Supervision Training October 21-22, 2021 William Stauffer, CADC, CCS, LSW 9 AM to 4 PM A group of Subject Matter Experts teamed up to create the seven Certified Recovery Specialist Core Competencies for Supervision in June 2017. Over the course of this two-day training, each of the supervisory core competencies will be reviewed and discussed at length in a comprehensive manner that will further specify the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to provide peer leadership through appropriate supervision and enhance the quality of supervision within peer services in our state. He is in long-term recovery since age 21 and has been actively engaged in public policy in the recovery arena for most of those years. Mr. Stauffer is a graduate of Northampton Community College, Cedar Crest College, and Kutztown University. He is also an adjunct professor of Social Work at Misericordia University in Dallas Pennsylvania. Bill has over 25 years of clinical and administrative experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He served as the Program Director of the Halfway Home of the Lehigh Valley from 1999 to 2012. Mr. Stauffer is the former President of the Pennsylvania Halfway House Association, serving in that capacity from 2002 to 2007. Bill is co-chair of the public policy committee for Faces & Voices of Recovery and the 2019 recipient of the Vernon Johnson Award Individual Recovery Advocate of the year. Mr. Stauffer was also the 2002 Recipient of the Lecie G. Machell prize in Social Work and, prior to taking the position of executive director of PRO•A, received the Pennsylvania Recovery Organization Alliances award of the Recovery Advocate of the year, in 2008. Courses November 12, 2021 Communication: Conflict or Harmony? 9 AM to 4 PM Facilitating Effective Meetings and Groups Sarah Falwell, BS, CADC This course consists of two segments. The first will focus on how communication styles influence and impact our interactions with others—fellow staff and clients included. The way we communicate can lead to conflict or can create harmony. Participants will examine their communication style and learn how they can achieve balance. Attention will be paid to de-escalation skills and working effectively with clients in the criminal justice system. The second segment will provide tips and techniques for your ‘toolbox’ when facilitating meetings and groups. These can include meetings with colleagues and groups with clients. How do you engage people, hold their attention, keep the conversation going, and ensure productivity? These will be very interactive trainings so attendees should come prepared to participate. Course Objectives Participants will be able to: 1. Identify their communication style 2. Discover how to achieve balance between conflict and harmony 3. Learn skills to effectively manage meetings with colleagues 4. Learn tools to effectively lead groups with clients Biography Sarah Falwell has been in the Human Ser vices field for over 17 year s. While obtaining her Bachelor’s degree from East Stroudsburg University, she completed her internship at Monroe County Correctional Facility. Upon graduating, Sarah worked primarily in the Criminal Justice system before transitioning to Treatment Trends, Inc. in 2007. She obtained her CADC in 2009, while working as a counselor at Keenan House. In 2013 she added Utilization Review Coordinator to her duties, while maintaining a caseload and running groups. In 2017, Sarah progressed in her career to the Utilization Review Manager for both White Deer Run-Lehigh County Center for Recovery and White Deer Run- Blue Mountain. In 2018, Sarah returned to Treatment Trends, Inc. as the Quality Assurance Coordinator for the entire organization. All of the experiences and knowledge from her previous roles has helped Sarah to function effectively and comprehensively in her current role providing leadership for Treatment Trends as the Chairperson of the Safety Committee, the Corporate Compliance Officer, and QA Coordinator. We do not accept debit or credit cards for payment at the door. Refunds and Cancellation Fees The training coordinator Diana Heckman must be notified at least 24 hours in advance if an individual cannot attend a training. Substitutions are permissible. Individuals who cancel will be given the choice of a refund or credit towards another course in the current track. There are no refunds or credits issued for no-shows. Cancellations made after the 24-hour win- dow will be subject to a $25 processing fee. If Treatment Trends would need to cancel a training, participants may choose either a full refund or credit towards another course in the current or next available track. Accreditation All courses in this catalog are submitted for approval for accreditation from the Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) and the State Board of Licensed Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors (unless otherwise indicated.)
