 Dearest Reader,
I have never before been so delighted than to see the merriment that took place at this year's Read a
Book Ball hosted by the esteemed Frederick County Public Libraries. Everyone, from little ones to lords
and ladies, took part in the event of the social season by reading a book and having a ball benefiting the
Library's Greatest Need Fund. This author heard that the festivities were inspired by another famous
author, Julia Quinn, and the Bridgerton series - and it was a roaring success. Bravo to all the guests and
 library supporters!
 Sincerely,
 Lady Frederickdown

1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN
Frederick County Public Libraries invites families and caregivers to read 1,000 books with their
children before they enter kindergarten.
Reading aloud to children from birth helps foster strong language skills and build a growing vocabulary—
two important tools for learning to read. Please register for the program by contacting your local FCPL branch or by
visiting fcpl.org/1000bbk.
FCPL also has a variety of digital resources. OverDrive Kids and BookFLIX offer fun read-a-longs perfect for any new

In a cultural landscape filled with endless pundits and talking
heads, Fran Lebowitz stands out as one of our most insightful social
commentators. Her essays and interviews offer her acerbic views
on current events and the media – as well as pet peeves including
tourists, baggage-claim areas, after-shave lotion, adults who roller
