Sheet information All our Engineered stone slabs are a minimum of 3050mm x 1400mm All sheets delivered will be 3050 x 1400mm or 3200 x 1600mm The thickness of our sheets is 20 and 30mm this has a variance of +/- 0.5mm. Colour’s and Batching Black specs: Because our engineered stone is 94% quartz, cured with resin it will show irregular stone particles, this is the beauty of the product. When compared to man made or synthetic products, which are consistent in colour you may notice black specs in white stone, this is because quartz is mined from the earth, and while it is screened and colour graded to move most impurities it is not possible to remove them all without compromising the integrity of the stone. Your Engineered stone bench top is one of a kind, due to quartz being a natural element each bench top will be unique, and as such there may be a variance in the sample you receive. We currently have 22 colour’s in our range, which are as follows; Twinkle White White Canadian White Beige Grey Pebble Cappuccino Pebble Light Grey Twinkle Black Veined Africa Veined Baroque Veined Michelangelo Breeze Ashen Light Breeze Pearl Breeze Blanc Vega Zenith Shingle White Pearl Sleet Pearl Lava Serene Trace Pearl Grey Glacier Nova Example Absolute White AP0893 - Colour name Manufacture date sequential sheets within the batch manufactured when you are using more than one sheet per job, please double check all sheets come from the same batch. 4 archant.co.nz Copyright ©2018 Archant 0800 ARCHANT (0800 272 4268)

Storage and handling Sheets Always carry sheets vertically. It is recommended that sheets are stored vertically on the 3050mm edge, at a 15° degree angle. A rack with 4 uprights is preferred and recommended, is your rack earthquake resistant? Store sheets polished face-to-face, of no more than 10 sheets per rack. Pallet Racking Horizontal racking can be considered for pallets of less than 10 sheets. NB: Pallets must not be stacked on top of each other. Store inside and keep well ventilated at all times Manoeuvring Sheets When sheets are relocated ensure they are in a vertical position to prevent breaking. Secure sheets on an a frame trolley, (wind can easily topple sheets). Extreme care is required when using a dolly, it is A frame recommended to have two or more people. Trolley Mechanical Lifting Another option is to use a gantry crane or forklift with a slab lifter (White rubber prevents the marking on light materials) Sheet weight ranges from 100 kilos + Steel cap boots must be worn when moving sheets. Suction cups and sheet grabbers are great tools for lifting Mechanical Lifting and handling sheets whilst in a vertical position. Make sure they are correctly rated see examples below. Note: Sheets may only be manoeuvred in a horizontal position if they are within an approved crate and moved by gantry crane or forklift. (Spread the forks to their maximum prior to lifting pallet avoiding flexing and breakage) Suction Cups 8 archant.co.nz Copyright ©2018 Archant 0800 ARCHANT (0800 272 4268)

Tooling and cutting Eurostone® surfaces An approved Eurostone® fabricator will not be a novice at engineered stone manufacturing. Eurostone® will only be supplied to approved engineered stone fabricators. Approved fabricators will have the proper tools & safety equipment to produce a quality finished product. Below is a list of equipment that is essential or recommended. Basic tools required Cutting speeds Parameters for tooling’s to be used on Eurostone® materials Electric/Pneumatic polisher Cutting disc of 360mm in diameter for combi-cut by Breton Diamond cutting wheels Rotation: 1700 RPM Advancing: Diamond polishing pad Thickness 12mm - 3 meters per minute Grinding stone Thickness 20mm - 2 meters per minute Thickness 30mm - 1.4 meters per minute Core bits “Z” shaft speed on the slab - 0.5 centimeters per minute Diamond cutting blade Wet profiling machine Milling cutter of 16mm in diameter H=35mm electroplated for Breton CNC machine with cone shaped tool HSK Stone carts or dollies Rotation: 7500 RPM A frame storage racks Advancing: Fabrication stands Thickness 12mm - 600mm per minute Thickness 20mm - 500mm per minute Air compressor Thickness 30mm - 400mm per minute Seaming clamps Diamond tooling is required for all cutting, shaping and polishing. Tooling designed for other engineered stone products will behave similarly, however life of the tool may be shortened due to the high quartz content of Eurostone®. Heritage Hardware also recommends wet working of the product, not only to prolong the life of your expensive diamond tooling but also to reduce the possibility of burning the products surface and to minimize dust. (See section on preferred suppliers for diamond tool manufactures and details about polishing.) Drilling Diamond coated core drills are recommended for taps, services and starter holes. We recommend a nominal size of 10mm for starter holes for your cut-outs. Helpful tip: Remember to always arris finished hole. 10 archant.co.nz Copyright ©2018 Archant 0800 ARCHANT (0800 272 4268)
Fabricator Eurostone® fabricator An approved Eurostone® fabricator will not be a novice at manufacturing engineered stone. This means that Eurostone® is only supplied to approved engineered stone fabricators. As engineered stone is now common place in our market, we offer guidelines in conjunction with industry recognized best practices. Sheet Inspection We recommend you record all data from each sheet; Please keep a factory register of these details. These details are required, in the event of processing a warranty claim. See section on colours & batching. Inspect each sheet prior to cutting. The orange label on the sheet is a reminder to check each sheet prior to cutting, remember once sheets are cut no replacements or refunds will be given. 5 Simple rules for inspection; 1. Cracks or flaws: Inspect sheets in a vertical position, in good white light. Visually scan the entire length and width of sheet. Fractures usually refract light. Helpful tip: To confirm a possible fracture, rub a lead pencil across the crack, this will highlight the imperfection. 2. Colour match sheets: Lay up sheets in the sequence they will joint, sheets from the same batch can appear different in certain lighting. Wet the sheets to intensify the colour. Helpful tip: Rotate sheets 180° degrees. 3. Migration of particles: Even with the most sophisticated production methods, sheets can have a build up of particles in one area this may alter your bench tops appearance. Helpful tip: Check all sheets being used are similar in appearance and inspect all sheets before a cut is made in the first sheet. 4. Warped - Is sheet bowed or cupped? Good storage methods will eliminate this. Tolerance of 3mm in length and 1.5mm across sheet. 5. Consistent gloss level - No blemishes, colour inconsistancies, pits or scratches. archant.co.nz Copyright ©2018 Archant 0800 ARCHANT (0800 272 4268) 11
Polishing & finishing Surface finishing Rotary or hand held diamond blocks can be used to polish a mitred seam or cut edge. Avoid abrasion work on polished faces of sheets, as the gloss levels will be compromised. Do not polish the surface seam to make it level. Disc grain pads start from 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 & 3000 and buff if required on dark colours (always use water when polishing) Using an enhancer will give the sheet faces and edges the final sparkling quality look and perfection in a Eurostone® bench top. Edges All edges are to be cut true, square and the profile to have a similar gloss level. All mitred edges to show uniform front edge thickness with no gapping in adhesive on the mitre joint. The glue line colour should always blend into the base colour of the sheet. (See glue colour chart Page 16) Edge detail profile A 3mm radius on top edge is the standard that we would prefer in the market. On the underside an arris or 3mm radius is also recommended. Templating Highly recommended A necessary part of the bench top fabrication process. When templating you may notice some areas of concern, as detailed below. We suggest your client is informed or ensure you have remedied these concerns before installation takes place. Pre-templating Check List and areas of concern Cabinets - All cabinets must be level and fixed to walls or floors. Strength of cabinet - Can it support a Eurostone® top? Will it sag over time? Sink and hob rails - Must be positioned vertically or re-enforced - see picture below Vertical rails give the required support to compensate the weight of the Eurostone® surface. This will prevent sagging of the bench top over time. Corner base units or extra wide units - Horizontal rails will not keep the bench top straight. This type of rail has the potential to sag, and will need to be re-enforced accordingly. Dishwasher cavity - Cleat the bench top to the back wall for the support required Eurostone® series joint placement - (see notes on page 13) Sink and hob placement - Does this meet your local authority regulations. HGB placement for minimum clearance please refer to AS/NZS Thickness - Standard bench top thickness = 40mm is not recommended for overhangs greater than 100mm Overhangs - To be no more than 300mm (see page 15 for details on overhangs). Site Access - Investigate accessibility of the site for delivery and installation. Consider how many site joints will be practical. Tolerance between walls - Reduce top by 1mm for every metre of bench and for high sun areas reduce by 1.5mm. Client satisfaction - Demonstrate actual sizes and inform client of final specifications. Explain process of installation and any sub trade services provided. archant.co.nz Copyright ©2018 Archant 0800 ARCHANT (0800 272 4268) 13
Joint positions The planning and consideration of placements a) If your bench top changes direction Joints will always be at a corner. An L shape cut from one piece is not approved. b) Increases in size (greater than sheet specifications). c) Hob rails are too narrow (min width of hob rail = 60mm) d) Sink rails are too narrow (min width of sink rail = 60mm) Front 60mm, Back 60mm e) Visually - Client’s preferred placement. However only if all the fabrication guidelines are met. (Remember your company is responsible for this manufacturing process) Avoid joint placement over dishwashers, over under bench ovens, or beneath direct heat sources, e.g. bench top appliances. Sink Joints Joints through sinks are approved where sink is over mounted – not approved for under mount. Eurostone® surface Joint Construction adhesive 30 Joint resin Substrates A good practice is to use resin with a minimum of 30mm either side of the joint. This bonds the sheet to the substrate. This will keep the joint stable when glued together and increase its strength considerably. 14 archant.co.nz Copyright ©2018 Archant 0800 ARCHANT (0800 272 4268)
Substrate * Please note this applies to 12mm sheets only Bench tops Eurostone® must be applied to a substrate for all bench top surfaces. *Sheets used with out a substrate in a horizontal application are not covered by warranty. Preferred substrate Plywood – Marine grade or a similar high-grade interior quality is the preferred substrate for the manufacture of the Eurostone® bench tops substrate. However MDF is suitable if sealed with a high- grade acrylic sealer on all surfaces for warranty to be valid. Off cuts of engineered stone can be used as bracing or packing out of 20mm Eurostone to enable the bench top to built up to the desired thickness, ensure that correct glues are use for this purpose. Your substrate board needs to be adequate for the dimensions and overhangs of the bench top. Avoid joints around dishwashers, sink and hob cut outs and overhangs. Important: Do not join a substrate directly below a Eurostone® joint. (Site joints must use a mechanical fastening). archant.co.nz Copyright ©2018 Archant 0800 ARCHANT (0800 272 4268) 15
Glues and bonding A guide for overhangs A 40mm top will need a solid substrate or 30mm plywood substrate with a Eurostone® bench top. a) Bench top less than 300mm over hang will need no support b) Bench top greater than 300mm over hang requires additional brackets at 800mm between centres Glues & bonding of sheet material to substrate The most preferred method is construction adhesive in lines no more than 60mm apart or 15mm balls of glue 60mm apart for plywood. Internal and external corners should be smeared out giving total cover. Plywood substrate. (12mm only) Lay out adhesive glue in lines 60mm apart. Other options glues and bonding Silicon Tile Cement Acrylic Adhesive Contact Adhesive Epoxy resin Fabricator’s alternative adhesive. (Approval prior to use must be submitted in writing to Heritage Hardware for authorization). If approval is granted, fabricators file will be updated, and all responsibility of manufacture with this alternative adhesive is with the fabricator and not the supplier. When using any of the adhesives, applications or methods above you must adhere to and be within the product guidelines and technical specifications of the selected product. 16 archant.co.nz Copyright ©2018 Archant 0800 ARCHANT (0800 272 4268)

Preparation for installation Cut outs All cut outs must have radius corners (no exceptions) with a minimum radius of 10mm. When a bench top is positioned around a wall or a post, these must be trenched to accommodate the radius corner in the Eurostone®. All cut outs must be a clean cut with no nicks or gouges visible along the edges. All cut outs including corners must have a heavy arris. Polish all edges with a minimum of a 200 grit-polishing disc. Correct Correct Incorrect 10mm 10-20mm 90° Radius Depending on appliance Preparation for hob Installations Cut outs must be sealed before installation. Use aluminium foil tape (50mm minimum width) Tape is to start from outside of appliance and flow into cut-out dropping down in front of ply substrate. Trim excess foil once hob is in place (be careful not to damage surface) Always allow an extra 5mm clearance between the stone edge and the appliance for expansion. Some appliance manuals do not allow enough tolerance in their recommendations, which in time may cause unnecessary stress to the sheet material Eurostone® surface Aluminium foil tape Hob appliance Substrates Allow for airflow Minimum 10mm 18 archant.co.nz Copyright ©2018 Archant 0800 ARCHANT (0800 272 4268)
Installation Over mounting a sink Arris the entire circumference. Polish all edges with a minimum of a 200 grit-polishing disc. There are to be no nicks or gouges along the edges. (Check sink manufacturers specifications - some have a self-seal strip that forbids sealants being used.) Ensure a maximum radius is on every corner, never have square corners in any cut outs. Under mounting a sink Polish the Eurostone® cut out as you would with profiled edges, (use masking tape to cover the surface area, this will prevent disks accidentally scratching the polished face) Adhesive for gluing in stainless steel sinks will be of good quality polyurethane, in conjunction with primers – do not use Silicone. Remember the thicker the glue line the stronger the polyurethane. A minimum of 1.5mm is recommended (check your product manufacturers specifications) When under mounting sinks, additional support is required, this is achieved by gluing support rails to the substrate edge, these rest against the stainless steel flange. (Use an epoxy or similar glue) We recommend all sink installations are supported independently from the Eurostone® material Eurostone® surface Polyurethane glue line, minimum thickness 1.5mm Sink Cabinet Support material Tap installation. Where the tap is mounted through the stone ensure there is sufficient Eurostone® material for support to allow for no cracking. Installation Read template notes as this list is to be covered off before installation. To avoid any possible breakages, the top must only be mounted on a surface that is perfectly level and has been plumb-lined. Handle the tops with particular care while installing, avoiding any knock that might cause irreparable chipping. Pay particular attention while placing the tops near one another. Fixing Screw cabinets into bench substrate, and remember extra fixing maybe needed in high sun areas. Where screw fixing is not possible – use strong adhesives. Do not use fasteners (bolts, screws, nails, etc.) to fix directly to Eurostone®. Site Joints 12mm Eurostone® material with substrate, always use toggle bolts for clamping using a minimum of 2 bolts per joint. (Do not over tighten) use an approved Adhesive. Helpful tip: Quantity of hardener will alter curing time. (Mix thoroughly) Joint:(Required standard) Small V joint without chipping. Flush Joint When site joint is complete - clean all residue and polish top with dry cloth. A recoat of “Darkener super” in this area will reinstate the final sparkling look of quality of perfection. Tolerance gaps (between vertical surfaces) Eurostone® sheets should not be restricted to move. All gaps should have matching silicone coloured to complement bench top. Moisture areas must be sealed with waterproof silicone. Non- waterproof silicone should only be used where paint will be applied. Remove any excess silicone with a spatula before it becomes completely hard. Any silicon marks that have not been removed at this time can be removed using a suitable silicon solvent with a microfiber cloth. 20 archant.co.nz Copyright ©2018 Archant 0800 ARCHANT (0800 272 4268)
Installation Hob fitting Pre-fit hob appliances to test and check there is good side clearance, also inspect whether electrical or gas fittings will not be hindered. Helpful tip: Induction hobs need maximum airflow. Airflow entry and exit points must be able to provide sufficient airflow to appliance. Then complete the foiling procedure, see details for hob installation and fitting see page 17. Dishwasher Make sure this area has been completely sealed (as referred to on page 11, sealing of substrates). Another good practice is to place a 70mm minimum barrier tape set in 3mm from front clashing and extending backwards. Steam from the appliance will deflect from the barrier tape, to prevent moisture becoming absorbed by the substrate Eurostone® surface Eurostone 12mm Substrate Bitumen tape Sealed substrate Dishwasher tape on underside archant.co.nz Copyright ©2018 Archant 0800 ARCHANT (0800 272 4268) 21
