Welcome

Thank you for joining us for our 40th annual Whirl!

On behalf of the Women’s Board and the Board of Trustees
of the Chicago Zoological Society, we welcome you to this
special evening of celebration. In the midst of what can only
be considered as another unusual year, we are grateful for the
opportunity to highlight the many milestones of the Chicago
Zoological Society over the past 100 years.

With contributions from friends like you, the Society can
continue to inspire conservation leadership, engage our
communities, and restore wildlife populations and people’s
connections to nature. We are so thankful for your unwavering support of the Society during these unprecedented
times, especially since we once again had to transition our Whirl gala to a virtual format.

We would like to especially thank Sasha Gerritson, President of the Women’s Board, along with President & CEO
Dr. Stuart D. Strahl, and the Board of Trustees, led by Chairman John P. Grube—all of whom were instrumental in
helping us produce this virtual event.

Please enjoy the Virtu-Whirl!

Welcome

Thank you for participating in our 40th annual Whirl. We extend our gratitude and congratulations to Melissa
and Michael Canning, our wonderful co-chairs of this celebration. We share our thanks to the members of the
Women’s Board and Whirl Planning Committee, for their work in organizing this virtual event. For a century, the
Chicago Zoological Society has played a leading role in conservation and animal care and has advanced innovative
approaches that forge an emotional connection of people and communities to wildlife and nature.

The past year has presented many challenges for the Chicago Zoological Society and Brookfield Zoo. As we reflect
on the past 100 years of the Society, we’re reminded of the many obstacles we’ve previously faced. We have
continued this legacy of perseverance through the support of our CZS family. We look forward to celebrating the
hard work of our staff, and the generosity of our donors, during this virtual event. Your support helps ensure the
continuation of our conservation work around the globe, our education programs close to home, and the best
possible care for the animals at Brookfield Zoo.

We are grateful for your continued generosity and commitment to the Chicago Zoological Society.
We look forward to having you join us for a wonderful Virtu-Whirl.

Sincerely,

You can scroll through the full list of auction items, or filter items based on the pre-set categories noted at the top and bottom
of the page. Some items will be labeled as “Instant Items,” which means you don’t need to set up a bid to purchase the
items. It is a one-click option for you to participate in the event.

MAKE A BID
Once you have successfully set up your account on the GiveSmart website, you will receive a welcome text message and/or
email linking you to the items to browse, bid, or buy.
          1. Click on the hyperlink in the welcome text to be directed to the Items page.

          5. Click “Bid.”

HOW TO PLACE AN AUTO BID
Allow the system to automatically bid up to a designated amount for you. The system will bid incrementally up to
the amount designated as long as someone else places a bid against you. If no one bids against your auto bid, the price
          remains the same.
          1. Click the item of interest.
          2. Click the “Auto Bid” tab.
          3. Enter in the maximum amount you would like to bid.
          4. Click “Bid.”

BUY IT NOW
Some items have a “Buy It Now” option—a set price at which you can instantly purchase the item without needing to bid.
To purchase an item at its “Buy It Now” price, navigate to that item’s individual page and select the “Buy Now” tab in the
bottom left corner. Click “Buy Now” to purchase the item at the listed price.

HOW TO MAKE A PAYMENT
Following the end of the live auction and silent auction on May 1, the winning bidders will receive a confirmation text
notifying them of their win. The winner will then follow the link in the text to check out for the evening. All participants must
provide credit card information to participate in the auction, but can check out using another payment method by contacting
Kerri Doherty at Kerri.Doherty@CZS.org or calling (708) 688-8670.

HOW TO COLLECT WINNING ITEMS
