Welcome Thank you for participating in our 40th annual Whirl. We extend our gratitude and congratulations to Melissa and Michael Canning, our wonderful co-chairs of this celebration. We share our thanks to the members of the Women’s Board and Whirl Planning Committee, for their work in organizing this virtual event. For a century, the Chicago Zoological Society has played a leading role in conservation and animal care and has advanced innovative approaches that forge an emotional connection of people and communities to wildlife and nature. The past year has presented many challenges for the Chicago Zoological Society and Brookfield Zoo. As we reflect on the past 100 years of the Society, we’re reminded of the many obstacles we’ve previously faced. We have continued this legacy of perseverance through the support of our CZS family. We look forward to celebrating the hard work of our staff, and the generosity of our donors, during this virtual event. Your support helps ensure the continuation of our conservation work around the globe, our education programs close to home, and the best possible care for the animals at Brookfield Zoo. We are grateful for your continued generosity and commitment to the Chicago Zoological Society. We look forward to having you join us for a wonderful Virtu-Whirl. Sincerely, Stuart D. Strahl, Ph.D. President & CEO John P. Grube Chairman, Board of Trustees Sasha L. Gerritson Women’s Board President 4
