General technical matters – Bulletin • Please read the bulletin carefully! Most information is written in the bulletin • If you still don’t find the answer to your question, you can always ask the Event Office. • There is a suggested distribution of runners to each bus. Don’t miss the buses! If there are more people on the bus than seats, the last to come will have to stand. • Quarantine zones: communication devices (phones, computers, etc.) are forbidden to use from getting on board the buses – even in flight mode. Old maps are also forbidden in the quarantines. • The maps are in plastic bags, sealed. • Olive green areas, which may be crossed unintentionally, will be taped with red and white tapes.
General technical matters: SIAC • SPORTident Active Cards (SIAC): the competitors have to test their SIAC cards before starting. If it’s not working properly, the start crew can change it. Test them at the model event as well! • Be aware that some of the controls are as close as 16 meters. While the SIAC card gives a feedback (beep and flash), it’s blocked and can’t register another control. The standard feedback is 3 seconds, but in some cases, it may be set to 5 seconds, meaning that you may not get the right punch on your card. Test your feedback time at the model event! Take extra care!
Olomouc: Soft Embargo • Be aware that it’s still an embargoed area! • ALLOWED: to visit as a student or tourist, drink a beer in a pub, to run without a map • NOT ALLOWED: to run with a map, to test route choices, to reconnoitre (explore) the area IOF Competition Rule 26.5.: Any attempt to survey or train in the competition terrain is forbidden, unless explicitly permitted by the organiser. Attempts to gain any information related to the courses, beyond that provided by the organiser, is forbidden before and during the competition.
Thursday: Sprint Qualification • Terrain: castle park and built-up areas; • Recommended shoes: road running shoes; • A big road is crossing the terrain, which may only be crossed in the designated crossings. These will be manned and traffic will be stopped. • Although not very clear from the map, running IS allowed on the sidewalks; • Some controls may be as close as 16 metres to each other. Check the codes! • Start list for final: published by ~12:30 in canteen.
Thursday: Sprint Qualification • After finishing the race- please stay inside the arena, it will be clear, where you can do CD. • Suggested bus schedule: • Bus 1: starting time 9:30-9:54 • Bus 2: starting time 9:55-10:29 • Bus 3: starting time after 10:30
Thursday: Sprint Final • Terrain: partly old town and partly areas with blocks of flats and parks; • Recommended shoes: road running shoes; • There may be artificial barriers, clearly marked on the map and in the terrain. Otherwise, olive green areas, high fences, high walls, a river and temporary buildings are in the area, that are forbidden to enter/cross. • Traffic will not be stopped, only slowed down. Take care! • There are two controls that are 22 metres apart, but on very different features.
Friday: Middle Distance • Terrain: hilly terrain with remnants of mining; • Recommended shoes: orienteering shoes; • Warm-up map issued in the quarantine. The map is NOT relevant for the competition! • The start area is at the top of the hill, approx. 120 metres higher than the pre-start (-20 minutes). Be on time! • At -3 minutes there will be water provided. • There is one refreshment control in the middle of the courses – only drinking water available. • There are two controls that are 40 metres apart, in a depression and a re-entrant. Check the codes!
Friday: Middle Distance • Suggested bus distribution • Bus 1 starting times 9:30 – 10:20 • Bus 2 starting times 10:21 – 11:10 • Bus 3 starting times after 11:11
Saturday: Sprint Relay • Olomouc embargoed area: HARD EMBARGO from Friday 05:00. Entrance to the area is NOT allowed afterwards! • Terrain: one part is park with a lot of vegetation details and some fenced areas. Another part is old town area. • Recommended shoes: road running shoes • Entry deadline: Friday 14.00 to the Event Office on the form provided by the Event Office. If you do not have a team, you also should enter yourself – organizers will set up the teams. • Quarantine: one quarantine area before the competition, another quarantine between runs 1/3 and 2/4.
Saturday: Sprint Relay • Out of bounds and forbidden areas: wrong information in the bulletin! • Map specification: ISSOM2007 (not ISSOM2017) • Some forbidden areas have purple hatches (crosses). There are a lot of olive green areas, which are not all taped around. Some fences have purple “gate” overprint on them – these are possible to cross. The marked route from the spectator / last control leads through an olive green area – this must be followed, although it’s olive green. High walls and high fences are forbidden to climb over. The river on the map is only crossable over the bridges. NOTE, all dark green areas are forbidden to cross! • The information was taken from an old version of the map. Sorry for the confusion!
Saturday: Sprint Relay • Some of the controls are situated very close to each other, as little as 15 metres. The features can be viewed as similar. Control codes are very different though (like 58 and 70). Please check the codes! • There are a lot of olive green areas in the terrain. They are not all taped around. General rule: don’t climb over the tapes and you’ll be safe. • There is no pre-warning from the organisers for incoming runners to the exchange area. It’s your own responsibility to look out for your incoming runner.
Saturday: Sprint Relay Because of the two controls that have to be punched twice, the control sequence might be difficult to follow. Take care! After punching the last control first, go left towards the last loop. After completing the last loop, go right towards the finish
