Welcome to Weymouth and Portland EFSA Chairman Address EFSA England is once again proud to be hosting the European Boat and Line Championships 2019 from the port of Weymouth on the south coast of England. It is with great pleasure that l welcome all participating nations to the Jurassic Coastline This is the fifth time the Championships have been held in Weymouth and I am sure of Weymouth & Portland, for the 2019 European Federation of Sea Angling (EFSA) that for those who have been here previously this will be a welcome return, to all those who have not had the pleasure of visiting you can be assured of a wonderful, Championships. memorable visit to this popular resort. Mayor of Weymouth & Portland Weymouth is situated in a sheltered bay at the mouth of the River Wey on the 2017-2018 English Channel coast. The town is 13 kilometres south of Dorchester and 8 kilometres north of the Isle of Portland with a population of approximately 52,000 and is the third largest settlement in Dorset. Weymouth Town developed from the mid 12th Century onwards and by 1252 was already established as a seaport with fishing noted as one of its earliest occupations. Weymouth is currently regarded as the UK’s premier port containing the county’s largest charter angling fleet and the latest modern vessels to fish from which are run by highly experienced and motivated skippers. The Weymouth/Portland area offers a wide range of fishing options and many different species to fish for and, most importantly, can provide sheltered fishing conditions no matter what the weather. September is the best month for the inshore fishing with bream being a main target species on the reefs along with rays and turbot/brill on the various banks. Weymouth boasts a picturesque harbour, beautiful coastal scenery, many restaurants and pubs and a good variety of evening activities along with a vibrant live music scene to keep us entertained. Rules for the EFSA Boat & Line Championships 17. Conger Eels, Tope (Sharks), Rays and any fish over 5lb will be released at the side of the boat. The trace must be touched by hand for the fish to count. The trace constitutes the line attached directly to the hook. 18. Foul hooked fish - only fish hooked in the mouth or forward of the gill cover count. Fish must be returned to the water immediately, unless being retained then it is to be killed and its tail removed. General Rules 19. Weevers and mini-species are not eligible. Only exceptions are ‘poor cod’ which are included with pouting and ‘wrasse all’ where species is identified as a mini species. In all cases, ‘poor cod’ and ‘wrasse other’ (mini species) 1. Their Boat Championship Rules decision shall be final. 1. A maximum of two hooks may be used. A double or treble may only be used unbaited and attached to a pirk only. 7. The Boat and Line Championships will be fished to a points system. Illustrations of both points system are included within the brochure. 2. A maximum of ten fish of each species shown on the score sheet may be recorded. The first five recorded will receive the full species points. The remainder will only receive one point per fish. 8. Each competitor is responsible for checking that the fish caught has been registered with the boat skipper or appointed Steward. It is their duty to make sure the skipper acknowledges their catch every time a fish is caught. 3. The angler(s) recording the most points will be declared the boat winner and be credited with 100%. All other Anglers must not commence fishing until their fish have been recorded and returned to the water. All Boat anglers on the boat will have their scores expressed as a percentage of the boat winning points. Captains will complete the fish record sheets for the anglers on the boat and present it to the Score Marshall 4. In the event of a ‘tie’ the competitor with the greatest number of fish recorded over the three days will prevail. upon landing at the end of each day.
