History & Heritage • Beginnings were humble, based on a business failure and the vision of one family • 1908 – Lou Upton investes savings in a venture to manufacture household equipment • 1911 – Lou with his uncle and brother joined together to produce motor-driven wringer washers as the Upton Machine Company
40s and 50s • In the summer of 1945 production of washers began again • Period of explosive growth • 1945 – name of company was changed to Whirpool Corporation • By the start of 1970 - introduction of innovative products that performed more efficiently and helped make households tasks easier • Introduction of Cool Line, the first toll-free consumer service support program in the US
The First Space Kitchen • October 1960 – government contract to design and build America’s first experimental space kitchen. • The first attempt by appliance engineers to cope with the problems of zero gravity and a number of innovative solutions were deveoloped. • Growing international business, expanding into Mexico, manufacturing in India and throughout Europe • 1990’s - global expansion

Design, development and transportations • Whirlpool strives for all transparency on all products and packaging. • Company is actively researching new materials with emphasis on environmental performance • Partnership with Honeywell – liquid blowing agent for refrigeration • partner with SmartWay Transport®
Life of product • Whirlpool uses PROCEL and EU Directions to set energy standards for products. • Latin America – A category certified products • Whirlpool – partnerships with companies Nest and Ford Motor -they are looking for better solutions
End of life • 90 percent of major appliances are recycled • actively recycling products in North America, South America and Europe • Whirlpool is committed to zero waste • to landfills by 2022
