Year 7 Enrichment Days 2018 Creating opportunities to grow and celebrate our excellence both in and out of school
Monday Year 7 Bushcraft trip or Year 7 in school ‐ a morning of English & afternoon of Science Aims and outcomes of the day In English we will be using a range of novels to create a literary art project inspired by Tom Phillips' `A Humument'. Students will use their artistic skill and storytelling ability to remake pages from an existing novel, so that each page tells a new story, through art and language. We will provide the novels and students will need to bring their own art equipment: pens and pencils are ideal for this but students are welcome to bring paint, pastels etc. as well. Timings 8.30am Register in C11 followed by a Humument hunt around the school 9.00am Construct your Humument 10.50am Break 11.10‐11.40am Clear up and present work. Prize giving. In Science our students will be competing to build the strongest bridge and the highest tower using only spaghetti and marshmallows. They must consider many variables when designing their bridges and towers, such as the distance to be spanned, what it needs to carry, materials available, budget, the forces acting on them and what the finished product will look like. Investigating questions What does the bridge/tower look like? Which shapes are the strongest? How can you improve your design? How did the different materials behave? Could you build a stronger bridge/tower with more of the same materials? What alternative materials would be better? Timings 11.40am Science activity in C4 11.40‐1.10pm Build a bridge or tower 1.10‐2.00pm Lunch 2.00‐3.00pm Prize Giving, clear up and end of day/dismiss at 3.00pm Basic service will be available in the canteen at break and lunch. Requirements Own clothes that are comfortable and can be worn for painting.
Tuesday Year 7 Bushcraft trip or Year 7 in school ‐ Disney Enterprise Aims and outcomes of the day You work for Disney head office and you are in charge of marketing their new film. • You must create a very brief outline of a story for a new Disney film and then design an exclusive bag that will go on sale at the Disney store to promote the release of the new film. • There will be a prize for the best bag that captures the essence of your brand new Disney film. Requirements Students will need to wear sensible clothing that they don’t mind getting a little bit dirty; please note that the students will be using fabric pens. Students may bring a packed lunch or purchase food from the canteen. Basic service will be available in the canteen at break and lunch. Timings 8.30am Register in C22 with Mrs Hawkey 8.30‐8.50am Disney Quiz 8.50‐10.50am Disney Movie – Moana and Kahoot activity 10.50‐11.10am Break 11.10‐12.10pm Planning 12.10‐1.10pm Designing 1.10‐2.00pm Lunch 2.00‐3.00pm Creating, end of day/dismiss at 3.00pm
Monday Year 8 Harry Potter Tour or Year 8 in school activity Aims and outcomes of the visit A visit to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour – The making of Harry Potter introduces visitors to the many aspects of the visual arts that go into creating the scenery, sets, props, costumes and models in a film. Whilst the day is seeing those creations made for the Harry Potter films, the skills used are the same for any film or TV production so this visit will give a wide ranging insight to the industry. Those attending will have selected prior to the day which area they would like to work in so they can use the visit to collect ideas, inspiration and information that can be used in their own creative endeavours the following day. What does the day entail? Students will be expected to make the most of the experience of the tour and make sketches, drawings and notes about areas of interest. They will therefore need a small bag for equipment and paper. They must stay in small groups whilst in the Studio. Staff will be location at various points and each group will have a main point of contact. Requirements There is food (and butter beer) available on site although students may bring their own food. Students need to dress in comfortable clothes, they will be inside for almost all of the time so can dress lightly. Timings 8.30am Register in the hall with a member of staff allocated to your tutor group. 9.00‐10.15am Watch the Harry Potter film that gets the most votes! 10.30am Coaches leave school 5.30-6.00pm Return to school (approximate timing - M25 dependent) If traffic delays the coaches, students will be allowed to use their mobile phones to make contact with parents to inform them of the delay. For those students not attending Harry Potter - In‐school activity: Harry Potter animation activity 8.30am Register in the hall at 8.30am with your tutor group. 9.00‐10.15am Watch Harry Potter film 10.15am Report to Miss Greenaway, Miss Itor and Mrs Hartridge in C20 (normal times for break and lunch) 3.00pm End of day/dismiss
Tuesday Year 8 working as designers/creators In school activity (all students) Aims and outcomes of the day Students will learn new design and making skills related to areas selected from the various aspects of the tour including costume design, set design, model making, concept art, story boards and music. What does the day entail? The focus will be to develop the power to invent, imagine and create in the context of film making and to begin to understand what working in that industry entails. Requirements: Students can wear their own clothes, but these must be clothes that they are happy to wear in Art rooms. Students may bring a packed lunch or purchase food from the canteen. Basic service will be available in the canteen at break and lunch. Timings 8.30am Register in allocated classrooms based on workshop groups chosen in advance. The canteen will be open at both break and lunch 3.00pm End of day/dismiss
Year 9 Enrichment Days 2018 An opportunity to learn about business model of growth and promotion at Thorpe Park Also to explore a STEM focused design challenge through the National Enterprise Workshops
Monday Year 9 Thorpe Park Trip or Year 9 in school activity - Community Project Thorpe Park Trip Aims and outcomes Students will learn about how theme parks develop their business goals and objectives. The focus will be to develop an understanding of business in terms of growth and promotion. What does the day entail? Students will be expected to make the most of the experience of the theme park talk. They will then have time to explore Thorpe Park and experience the rides. They must stay in small groups whilst in the park. Staff will be located at various points and each group will have a main point of contact. Requirements Food: Please bring a packed lunch or sufficient money to buy food. If your child is using a Merlin Pass - PLEASE MAKE SURE THEY BRING IT. Dress code: own clothes appropriate for a school trip. We want our students to be proud of the environment that they work and study in, and hope that with their input, they can make Rosebery an even nicer place to be and feel that they have really put their stamp on our community. Requirements Food: The canteen will be open with limited service or students may bring a packed lunch. Dress code: Own clothes appropriate for a community project. Tuesday Year 9 Rollercoaster Engineering Day In school activity (all students) Aims and outcomes To develop an understanding of STEM from a design challenge focus. What does the day entail? The students will be working on a design challenge that will develop their project management skills, mind‐ mapping, promotional techniques, marketing and presentation skills. This session will be run by the National Enterprise Workshops and supervised by Rosebery staff. Requirements Students may wear their own smart clothes, suitable for a design project. Timings 8.30am Register on entrance to the sports hall. Registers will be available in the entrance to the sports hall - students will be required to initial beside their name on the appropriate tutor group sheet. Basic service will be available in the canteen at break and lunch at the normal times 3.00pm End of day/dismiss

Monday Year 10 working to improve our Rosebery community In school activity (all students not on DofE) Aims and outcomes of the day We want our students to be proud of the environment that they work and study in, and hope that with their input they can make Rosebery an even nicer place to be and feel that they have really put their stamp on our community. What does the day entail? Students will be in small groups involved in community projects around the school. These include art, design and gardening projects. We hope that our students will be able to make a real impact on their school environment and leave their legacy for future Rosebery students. A small team will be involved in maintaining our gardens. Requirements Students will need to wear sensible clothing that they don’t mind getting a little bit dirty and that they are happy to paint in. Sturdy, sensible shoes will be required. Students will need to bring a packed lunch or they can purchase food from the canteen. We will be providing snacks at lunch and having a picnic as a group to rest and recuperate, and admire the work we will have done! Basic service will be available in the canteen at break and lunch. Timings 8.30am Register in the purple gym with Mr Styles/Miss Collins Normal break and lunch. 3.00pm End of day/dismiss.
Tuesday Year 10 working to improve our Rosebery community and film afternoon In school activity (all students not on DofE) Aims and outcomes of the day Continue to complete the community work around school. Celebrate the efforts of the work, with a film reward in the afternoon. What does the day entail? Students will complete the community work from the day before. Students will watch a film in the afternoon, to be determined by the group from the selection offered. Requirements Students will need to wear sensible clothing that they don’t mind getting a little bit dirty and that they are happy to paint in. Sturdy, sensible shoes will be required. Students will need to bring a packed lunch or they can purchase food from the canteen. We will be providing snacks at lunch and having a picnic as a group to rest and recuperate, and admire the work we will have done! Basic service will be available in the canteen at break and lunch. Year 12 Enrichment Days 2018 An opportunity to enjoy time together and learn skills for our future beyond school
Monday Year 12 Subject immersion opportunity in London (all students) Aims and outcomes: To discover and gain knowledge of a subject area in London. What does the day entail? An opportunity to head into London in a group and discover aspects that excite and inspire the students. Subject areas have provided students with venues and locations, which students might want to visit. Requirements Students are required to travel in groups (minimum of 4) to London and pay for their travel. Staff will be at different locations in and around London to facilitate any questions or queries that cannot be answered on the phone. A selfie of each group at the different museums, venues, etc. should be emailed to Mr Phillips or Mr Waight. Timings In London by 10.30am, however, students have been told to research opening times of their suggested locations and make provisional bookings for museums, if appropriate. Tuesday Year 12 A lovely day by the sea in Brighton (all students) Aims and outcomes: We hope that the sun will be shining for our students as they visit Brighton and undertake various challenges set by the Sixth Form team. This will give the students the perfect opportunity to unwind, get ready for summer and remember the really fun aspects of being in Rosebery Sixth Form. What does the day entail? Tuesday sees the Year 12 students take in the sights of Brighton. The students will have a sociable day by the seaside and hopefully manage to fit in lots of sightseeing, culture and ice‐cream eating! Requirements Students will need to wear sensible clothing and footwear as we will be outside most of the day. They will need to bring lunch and a drink and any spending money they wish. Get the cameras at the ready too! Sun cream and hats are required if we have warm weather. Timings 8.00am Meet in Dorking Road layby outside the old White Horse Pub (now Aims Homecare) 3.30pm Return to school, back by 3.30pm Please also refer to information circulated by the Sixth Form team
