COVID 19 POLICY PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) There are various types of Personal Protective Equipment (“PPE”) used in the prevention of COVID 19. Some of the PPE used in a school/educational setting are: • eye protection • gowns • facemasks • N95 Respirators • hair coverings Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required on all New Beginnings High School campuses to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID 19 and better ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all faculty and staff. MASKS AND GLOVES Face masks will be required for the 2021–2022 school year. In private spaces such as an individual office, your facial covering may be removed if you are alone. These guidelines are consistent with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which makes clear that facial coverings and social distancing are among the most effective measures for limiting the spread of COVID 19. Mask Exceptions • Any employee with a medical condition that makes the wearing of a face covering a risk to their health. • When staff are performing tasks that cannot be completed while wearing a face covering (i.e. eating, drinking, etc.). • When employees are unable to remove their own mask. (This refers only to physically disabled employees). Non-Compliance Consequences For unauthorized removal of face coverings may include training, referral to counseling and/or disciplinary action such as warning, reprimand, withholding of a promotion or pay increase, reassignment, temporary suspension without pay or termination, as the organization believes appropriate under all of the circumstances. All warnings, reprimands, etc., will be documented with the school’s Director of Academic Affairs (DAA)/ Pilot Director, Principal and the People Department. SOCIAL DISTANCING At no point should a staff member be within six (6) feet of each other (per CDC guidelines) for more than 15 minutes at a time. 1|Page
While on NBHS campuses and in administrative offices, staff are required remain at least six (6) to six (6) feet apart when feasible or as recommended by the CDC. This will be expected in classrooms, school bus and, common areas and offices. COMMON SPACES NBHS staff will clean and disinfect all areas such as offices, bathrooms, common areas, commonly touched surfaces, and shared electronic equipment as needed. HALLWAYS As an added precaution, all NBHS campuses will designate certain hallways as one-way, using symbols, markings or signs depending on the width of the corridors. Additional signage maybe placed on walls for visual referencing. Campuses must limit nonessential movement. CAMPUS ENTRANCE AND EXIT All NBHS campuses will have one entrance for employees and students. The school is limiting facility access to essential faculty and staff who are employed. Identification badges/cards will be required for all employees upon entry. The employee must display their ID at all times. NBHS ID badges/cards may be obtained at the front office. Winter Haven employees only: Staff at the Winter Haven campus will need to have both Bay Care and NBHS IDs. TEMPERATURE CHECKS Temperature checks will be conducted with a thermometer. If you have a fever 100.4° F or greater (per CDC), you will not be admitted into the building. ILLNESS POLICY Using the Center for Disease Control (“CDC”) Coronavirus Self-Checker, people with COVID 19 have had a wide range of symptoms ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2- 14 days after exposure to the virus. Common Symptoms of COVID 19 • Fever or chills • Cough • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing • Fatigue • Muscle or body aches • Headache • New loss of taste or smell • Sore throat • Congestion or runny nose • Nausea or vomiting • Diarrhea 2|Page
This list does not include all possible symptoms. The CDC will continue to update this list as we learn more about COVID 19. Please visit the CDC at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms- testing/symptoms.html for an up-to-date list of symptoms. If you feel sick, feverish, or experiencing symptoms associated with COVID 19 we recommend you not come to work. You may need to get tested for COVID 19 and report the results whether positive or negative to NBHS People Department at (863) 298-5666. Reporting If you are experiencing COVID 19 symptoms, have been in contact with someone who tested positive or experiencing one or more symptoms within the last 14 days, you must self-report. The NBHS COVID 19 Self Reporting Form can be found online at www.newbhs.net. Isolation and Mitigating Possible COVID 19 Cases All NBHS must follow the multi-step process to isolate and mitigate possible COVID 19 cases on campus as outlined within the COVID 19 Procedures section of this Addendum. Return to Campus Faculty or staff member with new or worsening signs (or any symptoms listed above) cannot return to any campus operation until they have met the Reentry Procedures listed within COVID 19 Procedure section of this Addendum. ILLNESS PROCEDURES Isolation and Mitigating Possible COVID 19 Cases NBHS has mandated a multi-step process for isolating and mitigating possible COVID 19 cases on campus: 1. Any staff reporting feeling symptoms should have an immediate temperature check to see if they have a fever. 2. Campuses must immediately separate any employee who displays COVID 19 symptoms. 3. To protect staff, campuses will close off any room(s)/space that the ill employee occupied. 4. All areas used by the individual showing COVID 19 symptoms or test positive should be cleaned and sanitized by the custodial service team. 5. During that time, the room(s)/space is not to be used by any person until properly sanitized and disinfected. Containment Anyone assisting an employee who is ill while at work or answers YES to any of the screening questions must wear appropriate PPE. 1. Ask the employee to place on a mask if one is not already warn. 2. Relocate individual to a designated “isolation” room where minimal contact with others is possible but where the individual can still be observed. 3. Advise the employee to go home and suggest contacting their medical provider. 4. Clean the area where individual has been in the building as trained Reporting In the event of a possible exposure, all staff will be required to self-report using the COVID 19 Self- Reporting Form on the NBHS website. Email notification will be sent within 24 hours from the People Department to any employee with possible COVID 19 exposure. Exposure is defined as being within 6 feet of someone for at least 15 minutes, who is showing symptoms or has tested positive for COVID 19. COVID 19 Reporting There are different steps to take depending whether the person identified as ill, symptomatic or not. This distinction also impacts the steps needed for anyone who had contact with that individual. Employees who have been exposed to or tested positive to COVID 19 must do the following. 1. Notify your direct supervisor. 2. Access and complete the COIVD 19 Self-Reporting Form. Re-Entry Procedures If an employee answers YES to any of the NBHS COVID 19 self-reporting questions, they may not return to work/school. The individual may return to work when one of the five following statements is true. No exceptions will be made: 11 | P a g e
1. A health care provider has confirmed in writing that the illness was NOT COVID 19-related because of an alternative diagnosis. **Other viral illnesses, upper respiratory infections, pneumonia do not exclude COVID 19 and are not adequate to authorize return. 2. The individual had a positive test and isolated for ten days plus twenty-four hours after having no signs or symptoms (including fever). If this happens, then these steps should be taken: a. Identify those who have been in close contact (within 6ft for 15 minutes or longer) within the past two days. School-specific staff/administration are responsible for this step. b. These contacts should quarantine for fourteen days from their last exposure to the individual whether they wore a mask or not. c. Any testing would not change the length of quarantine, so random testing is not recommended, and a negative test is not adequate to authorize return. 3. The individual has had two negative tests, at least twenty-four hours apart, since symptoms began AND has been well for twenty-four hours. 4. The individual has isolated for ten days plus twenty-four hours after having no symptoms, regardless of testing status (positive, negative, or none at all). 5. Non symptomatic individuals can provide evidence of fully vaccination status results. BUS Students will be expected to arrive at the bus stop wearing masks. Masks must also be worn by all students on NBHS buses. Students are encouraged not to gather together and to practice social distancing to the maximum extent possible at bus stops. NBHS BUSES Students will be assigned seating for morning and afternoon bus routes. Seats will be adjusted to improve social distancing and to allow rear-to-front loading and front-to-rear unloading for runs. Signage will be used to encourage healthy hygiene practices: 1. Before students can enter the bus, students will have their temperature taken by the bus driver. If a student has a temperature above 100.4F°, the student will not be allowed to enter the bus. Students under 17 years of age will have their parents notified if the student has a temperature. 2. Upon entering the bus student must have a face mask on. Please see the Student Handbook for proper and allowable face masks. Students’ parents will be notified if the student does not have proper PPE safety gear, and the student will not be able to enter the bus. 3. Staggered entrance of the bus will be practiced. Students will enter and start seating from the back to keep students from having to pass each other and practice social distancing. 4. Students must sit in their assigned seat upon entering the bus. There will be an “X “marked in the seat for the designated location they should sit. Students must remain in designated seats and practice social distancing while on the bus. 5. Windows will be down to help with air flow on the bus. Students are not to hang their hand outside of the windows or throw any objects. Standard rules for bus passengers will be applied listed in the Student Handbook. 6. When arriving on campus students will remain in seats until the bus driver instructs the students to exit the bus. School buses will be disinfected at the end of the morning and afternoon routes. Drivers will clean contact surfaces using approved soap and water disinfectant solutions, micro-fiber 12 | P a g e
cloths, and paper towels. A garbage can will be available on each bus for disposal of paper products. Garbage will be emptied at the end of each bus service. FLEET VEHICLE CLEANING AND DISINFECTING Do • Sanitize frequently touched vehicle surfaces on a regular basis. • Be mindful of the cleaning/disinfecting agents used on vehicles to avoid inadvertently damaging the interior or exterior. • Many of the same household cleaners (such as non-bleach, unscented, non-chlorinated disinfectant cleaners and wipes) that kill COVID 19 on hard surfaces at home can also clean most car interiors without causing damage. • Alcohol solutions that contain at least 70% isopropyl alcohol are effective against COVID 19, according to the CDC. Nearly every interior surface of a vehicle can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol. • Vigorous washing with soap and water can also destroy COVID 19. Soap and water are safe for most car interiors. Be careful not to saturate the surfaces. • Consult the cleaning directions provided in the Vehicle Owners’ Manual. • Follow the cleaning agent manufacturer’s product label guidance for the recommended disinfecting procedure, as guidance varies by cleaning product. Read all instructions and precautions of the materials being utilized and follow all safety recommendations when utilizing cleaning products to ensure personal safety. • When using wipes, remove excess liquid before wiping surfaces, especially electrical components and touch screens. • Test selected cleaning agent in an inconspicuous location. Avoid • Don’t use bleach or hydrogen peroxide on the inside of your car. • Don’t use scented wipes or wipes containing bleach. • Don’t use ammonia-based cleaners on car touch screens or dashboards, as they can damage anti- glare and anti-fingerprint coatings. • Never combine cleaning chemicals as doing so may lead to toxicity. Vehicle High Touch Areas • Car keys and fobs • Door handles, door latches and lock buttons • Steering wheel • Shift lever • Any buttons or touch screens (radios, mirror adjusters, climate controls, etc.) • Wiper and turn signal stalks • Center console and cup holders • Driver and passenger armrests and seat belts, grab handles, and seat adjusters • Headrests and seat pockets Operating Suggestions • Wash your hands before and after driving. • Wear gloves when possible outside of your vehicle, especially when fueling. Pumps, keypads and other surfaces are frequently touched and may not have been sanitized. • When possible use contactless payment methods to avoid touching keypads or pens. 13 | P a g e
• Consider using your knuckles rather than fingertips to touch common use contact areas. Compared to fingertips, knuckles will generally have less contact with other things throughout the day. • When finished driving the vehicle for the day, thoroughly wipe down the vehicle with disinfectant wipes or other appropriate cleaning solutions. EVACUATIONS General Procedures Areas outside of the building that will allow 3-6 feet of separation of students and staff will be identified and communicated. Face coverings should be worn at all times. Staff will be instructed to bring all necessary items including additional face coverings and hand sanitizer. Lockdown Please refer to the NBHS Emergency Plan and Disaster Preparedness Information Manual. If there is no room for social distance without being in the line of sight, social distancing protocols will be violated in an effort to maintain safety. Fire Drills Tasks for All 1. At the fire alarm signal, everyone is to leave the building in the manner designated and perform their assigned duties. While exiting the building, each staff member and student must practice social distancing. 2. Only designated personnel are to determine if there is a fire, a false alarm, or some other problem. 3. Everyone is to remain outside of the campus building until the “All Clear” signal is given by the DAA or designee. Specific Assigned Tasks Front Desk Receptionist 1. Take a printout of attendance roster (RAPTOR) prior to the beginning of the fire drill 2. Check to make sure no students (checking all cameras) are in any area of the front lobby, conference rooms, and/or hallway areas. 3. Head to designated area outside of the school. 4. Obtain (prior) count of total staff members in the building. Campus Staff and Directors 1. Assist with the traffic of students heading out of the building and to assist with supervision of students while outside. 2. Assist with student supervision outside of the campus building and must assist with obtaining the teacher total student count which is to be given to the DAA/PD. 3. Conduct a security check along with the SRO to make sure that (a) all individuals (staff and students) have exited the building, (b) all classrooms to be locked after clearance, (c) no fires in the school. 4. Ask teachers for a total head count for their class. 5. Tally all teacher totals and cross check totals with front desk attendance total. If both totals do not match, the teachers will be asked to re-count their students. a. Once both totals are match, the DAA/PD will announce “all clear” via radio to all staff. b. The DAA will then dismiss each class into the building. All classes must re-enter the building through the front main entry door. 14 | P a g e
6. Ensure that staff will be required to sanitize hands upon reentry and must follow social distancing. 7. Monitor the hallways until all students are back in their classrooms. Teachers and Support Staff 1. Create and maintain a daily attendance sheet and/or seating roster readily available for fire drills. The attendance sheet must have all students who are in attendance that day. 2. At the sound of the fire alarm, ask students to line up, and lead students outside while practicing social distancing. 3. Escort students to their designated “rally point”. 4. Count students to ensure it matches their roster/seating chart. 5. Ensure that students line up together while outside of the school 6. Teachers are to provide the DAA/PD with their total student count for the day/period. 7. Support staff will be assigned an area for their “rally point.” 8. Upon re-entry into the building, advise students not to use the restroom at this time. DURATION The Board may suspend/revoke/rescind portions of this policy if/when information is available regarding COVID 19 cases. 15 | P a g e
