In 2013 he directed ANYTHING GOES, a children’s movie for television. The film won an International Emmy Kids Award in New York, a TIFF Kids Award in Toronto and multiple other awards and nominations around the world. In 2015 Steven directed the short movie KING’S DAY. This film also won several awards, including a TIFF Kids Award. His TV series Remi, NOBODY’S BOY (2016), based on the renowned novel by Hector Malot, was nominated for an Emmy Kids Award. Sweethearts FEMALE DIRECTOR SYNOPSIS It‘s double trouble when fate and an ill-executed diamond robbery throw Mel and Lise together in a race and chase against time. Mel, a professional criminal and single mum looking to pull off her greatest coup, and her nerdy, easily panic-stricken hostage Lise are soon pursued by the relentless detective Ingrid, who always gets her man, or women, at any price. On the run, the mismatched and constantly fighting pair have to dispose of the loot in the face of a Berlin underworld also determined to get its hands on them and the precious stones. As the forces of law and disorder close in, Lise develops a liking for Mel, deciding she is going to help her ‚captor‘. Mel is far less than enthusiastic, especially given Lise‘s idea of support. With no choice the odd couple soon become a perfect tag team. But when Mel then adds the good looking cop Harry to her collection of hostages and Lise immediately falls for him, the chaos becomes perfect - with a happy ending looking to be an impossibly long way off. The Beast in the Jungle FEMALE DIRECTOR SYNOPSIS THE BEAST IN THE JUNGLE is a film adaptation of Henry James’ 19th century novella of the same name. Set in a remote English country mansion and stretching from the Jamesian era to a globalized present-day setting, the film uses dance to recount the epic and unconventional love story of John Marcher (Dane Jeremy Hurst) and May Bartram (Sarah Reynolds). During a chance encounter ten years after first meeting, May reminds John that he once revealed to her a deep and menacing conviction that his life would be defined by a life-changing experience – one that was waiting for him “like a Beast in the Jungle.” Intrigued by his continued belief in this foreboding secret, May decides to stay by John’s side and soon develops feelings of genuine love for him. John is not able to reciprocate her devotion, preferring instead to resume his shallow life as a travelling businessman. Cold Feet SYNOPSIS Through a curious mix-up, the petty criminal Denis suddenly finds himself in the position of a caretaker for the stroke patient Raimund. All he really wanted to do was break into Raimund’s house in order to finally pay off his debts to some disagreeable crooks. Instead, he now sits captive in the rich businessman’s house, who, since his seizure has been confined to a wheelchair. When Raimund’s granddaughter Charlotte shows up to check on him, it’s finally too much for Denis. But escape is not an option as a mighty snowstorm is raging in the region. It Must Schwing SYNOPSIS In 1939, Alfred Lion and Francis Wolff, two young émigrés from Berlin, founded the legendary jazz label Blue Note Records in New York. The label dedicated itself exclusively to the recording of American jazz music and developed its own unmistakeable recording style and sound. Blue Note Records discovered and produced an impressive roster of international jazz stars. This included Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, Thelonious Monk and Quincy Jones. At a time when Afro-American musicians in the USA were discriminated against and ostracised, Blue Note records respected them as artists and equals. A Jar Full of Life SYNOPSIS Marleen is a young woman whose life hasn’t started yet. Already in her early 20s, she still lives at home with her parents and has no goals or aspirations to speak of. Fack Ju Goehte 3 SYNOPSIS Max Frisch’s Homo Faber, curve sketching and toxic asbestos in the restrooms: It’s just another stressful year at Goethe Comprehensive School. But this time teacher Zeki Miller (Elyas M‘Barek) is actually keen on whipping his students into shape to pass their A-Levels. Unfortunately, the kids in his “chaos class” – especially Chantal (Jella Haase), Danger (Max von der Groeben) and Zeynep (Gizem Emre) – are simply not having it. In fact, the guidance counselor at the Job Information Center (JIC) has just quashed any dreams they had about their future prospects. Indeed, at this point, their frustration has reached a new level, which means they’re getting into even more trouble and refusing to do anything at all. How on earth is Mr. Miller going to motivate these teens? He can’t even count on help from Principal Gudrun Gerster (Katja Riemann), who’s already at loggerheads with the Department of Education for heading up the worst-performing comprehensive school in the state – a status owed in no small part to these very “problem” students. At least Mr. Miller has fresh support from newcomer Biggi Enzberger (Sandra Hueller), who’s helping him out with an anti-bullying campaign. Hot Dog SYNOPSIS A fast-paced buddy comedy with Germany’s most successful stars Til Schweiger and Matthias Schweighöfer – the dream team of German cinema. The Journey SYNOPSIS Sara enters Baghdad station with sinister intentions for its reopening ceremony. Outmastered SYNOPSIS The wealthy and rather bored landscape architect Evi Müller-Todt (Katja Riemann) lives with her plastic surgeon husband Claus (Oliver Masucci) in their comfortable villa. One day, in a burst of red-wine-induced whimsy, Claus takes out an ad for a new cleaner: “Slave wanted (m/f)”. Astonished by the leather-clad figures that soon gather at his door, he realises his ad has been taken quite literally. A Piece of my Heart SYNOPSIS Isabella (35) is a driven business woman in Stockholm’s finance world. A PIECE OF MY HEART is based on the musical work of legendary Swedish artist Tomas Ledin.
