Dear Members, May is the start of our summer season. It’s always hard to believe another season has come to an end so quickly. Summer not only brings longer days with more sunshine, but also the start of summer golf leagues, reciprocal golf and dining and even the opportunity for tennis members to participate in recreational Pickleball play. It also means that some of our members will be departing for summer travel or northern homes. From all of us on the Board, Management Team and staff, we thank you for helping to make this and every winter season incredible. To the year-round residents, rest assured that there will be plenty of activities around the club to keep you busy. Daniel Kolber club president In last month’s issue of the Eagle I welcomed the four new Board members: Gregg Benson, Trudy Klioze, Art Cohen and Richard Feldman. Each year after the new Board is elected, sometime in late March or early April, we get together and hold a two-day orientation. We review Board roles, responsibilities; we review strategic plans, perform a SWOT analysis, review and create action plans. Among other things we accomplished, we updated and revised our strategic plan. This orientation was a perfect opportunity to get to know our fellow Board members, and to build team spirit. Our four new members’ enthusiasm and excitement is contagious and has already resulted in new ideas and suggestions that will surely benefit Gleneagles going forward. Our sales continue to be stronger than expected which help us accomplish our capital projects. We are so excited about the number of sales we have so far this year and openly welcome all our new members. Gleneagles is as popular as ever and a community people want to be part of. Kraig Spina general We want to thank all of our members who took an interest in our Gleneagles committee process. With over 200 applications, this was one of the most active manager committee processes in years. We are looking forward to a remarkable year of ideas, events and programs that will come from our committees. Committee chairs are listed on the inside margin of page 3. On pages 4 and 5 of this month’s Eagle, you can read about all of the exciting capital projects taking place in summer 2022. Construction will begin May 31 on the Pickleball Complex upgrade and the Grille Room and Glen Bar renovation. Arrangements have been made with neighboring communities to allow our members to play on their pickleball courts, and of course, we have reciprocal dining as well as our own Legends and Veranda available for dining. You can see additional information showcasing these projects, in addition to the Strathearn and Clunie satellite renovations which will also be taking place this summer. Ongoing this spring and summer, will be the planning and estimating for the proposed refurbishment of the Victory Golf course. The club will be hosting additional focus groups to discuss the proposed design elements. We will also present collateral identifying the component needs for renovation on the Victory Golf Course. We look forward and value the member feedback as we navigate through this process. Last but not least, we would be remiss not to mention the unexpected passing of Richard North. Richard was an avid tennis player, golfer, Board member and former President of our club. We extend our sincerest condolences to Ann and family. As we move our path forward and look to the future, we remain diligent to the present. 2022 will be another outstanding summer. The Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day holidays are all wonderful times for a visit, with activities across all club departments to celebrate the holiday. We look forward to seeing you around the club this summer! Respectfully yours, Daniel Kolber, Club President photo by ERIC SANDS Kraig Spina, General Manager cover photo by 2 the Eagle MAY 2022 VISUAL ENTERPRISES

Grille Room & Glen Bar COVER STORY our summer PLANS Gleneagles Country Club’s mission is to provide our members exceptional golf, wellness, tennis, pickleball, dining and social experiences through unparalleled service, well- maintained facilities, fiscally responsible management, and sound governance that fosters diversity and enduring friendships in our country club community. Our mission is at the core of our operations, and in keeping with our mission, we are constantly updating facilities throughout the club. The off-season is the time of the year best suited for these projects, as there are fewer members in residence, therefore making less of a disruption to the membership. Summer 2022 has a lot of great projects on the horizon, and we are committed to sharing updates of the progress on these projects over the next several months. PICKLEBALL COMPLEX In Summer 2022, the construction of eight pickleball courts will take place. The existing four courts will be demolished as they have exceeded their useful life and are no longer in compliance with current industry standards. Eight new courts will be constructed with lighting. Pickleball Complex Construction is expected to begin May 31 and the eight new courts will open in early September 2022. GRILLE ROOM AND GLEN BAR The Grille Room has seen more usage in the past two years than anyone 10' X 30' 0' SETBACK VARIANCE could have ever expected. During the peak of the pandemic, the Grille 6' SIDEWALK AWNING REQUIRED Room, with its abundance of open air as a result of windows and 7' outdoor seating, provided our members with a safe outdoor restaurant P-5 P-6 P-7 64' P-8 (TYP) experience. In May 2022, Grille Room and Glen Bar operations will pause for several months for this restaurant to undergo a significant DN 34' 8' HT (TYP.) TENNIS FENCE transformation. STRATHEARN SATELLITE Our largest satellite, the Strathearn satellite clubhouse will have renovations to the entry and great room consisting of new carpet, paint, ceiling FLOOR PLAN tile, and furniture. The restrooms and kitchen will receive new paint colors and ceiling tiles. The Accounting office is also located in this building and will receive new carpet and paint. Strathearn is approximately 6,000 square feet and the last renovation was in 2003. Strathearn satellite is one of the most utilized satellite clubhouses due to its large size, making it an optimal location for larger gatherings and meetings. The pool will remain open, but the great room and restroom facilities in the Strathearn satellite are expected to be closed for approximately 15 weeks during the late summer for this renovation to take place. CLUNIE SATELLITE Clunie satellite will receive a complete renovation of the building to begin early July 2022. The pool will remain open, however restrooms will not be available for a duration of 12 weeks. Once Strathearn and Clunie satellites are renovated, five of the seven satellite clubhouses will have seen a IS PL AY CONCE PT complete renovation within the past three years. LIQUOR D All satellite clubhouses are owned and managed by the club, meaning all club members can enjoy any satellite of their choice, not just the satellite located closest to their residence. All of the 2022 projects outlined above will be fully funded through the 2021-2022 capital budget. The 2021-2022 fiscal year saw a record number of new member sales, which fully funded the annual capital budget. The volume of New Member Capital Contributions has eliminated the need for capital COLOR PALETTE dues in tennis and social for the past ten years, and in golf for the past nine years. ON OUR GREENS Another Great Season It is bittersweet to face the end of season – especially one that JOE left us with great memories of DeMINO, pga new friendships, new winners, and great events that were sold director of golf out all season long. There is not a club out there with the strong participation and friendly camaraderie that we all are lucky to enjoy at the club. Congratulations to the golf members – it is so special to be a part of the excitement every day. The month of May brings our reciprocal program which is a great opportunity for our members to experience neighboring country club golf courses while we also welcome their members for reciprocal play at Gleneagles. The summer leagues are in full swing, and we have something for everyone! From the Ladies’ South Palm League and Diamond League to the Men’s South County League, it is always great to see our members compete against our neighboring country club members. Let’s all support our teams for a summer victory! This past season marks my 11th season at Gleneagles, and I truly am so grateful to be your Director of Golf. This season was the most fun and memorable season that I have ever experienced, and I know that next year will be even better! The professional team is working with the various leagues and committees over the summer to prepare for your 22-23 season schedule. We look forward to seeing our year-rounders over the summer, and for those up north, we wish you a great summer and look forward to your return in the fall! PRO TIP: TRY A HYBRID Using long irons, while they provide a lot of distance, can often feel like a full time job! Life has become much easier with the hybrids. During several of my lessons, I have seen players not getting the desired results from using three and four irons. When I see this happen, I always suggest trying a hybrid club as it is much easier to hit and goes a little further. When trying out the hybrids for the first time, play the ball like an iron - not too far forward in your stance. Trust the hybrid – it has plenty of loft to get the ball in the air. Don’t try to hit it in the air as that can get you swinging up too much. Another club that often gives golfers trouble is a 3-wood, and if you are struggling to hit the right shots with this club, consider trying a 5-wood! If you do not have a hybrid or 3-wood, we have plenty of demos in the shop. Come by and try one! 2022 Ladies’ 12 and Ladies’ 9 Closing Day: April 5, 2022 14 the Eagle MAY 2022
