High Desert Museum Steve "The Crocodile Hunter" Irwin and his wife, Terri, inspired passion for wildlife all around the world. Now their children, Bindi and Robert, are teaching a new generation to become "Wildlife Warriors" on their Animal Planet show Crikey! It's the Irwins. The next step in this phased
reopening begins on August 25, when Deschutes Public Library will provide the public with increased access to library buildings. Currently open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm for holds pick up, limited browsing, and returns. SROA Friday Fact Drones cannot be flown in Sunriver without prior written approval from the Sunriver Airport and Sunriver Owners Association. Plan and allow for a minimum of 72 hours Monday through Friday for your application to move through the review process. For more information Click Here Attention Harper Bridge Users If you’re planning to visit Harper Bridge near Sunriver this summer, remember - bridge jumping is now prohibited and punishable by a fine of up to $250. When parking is full, have a plan B and utilize another river access point. Thank you for helping keep our community safe. Kids Meal Program FREE lunches are still being offered Monday through Friday, 10:30 to noon at Three Rivers School for ALL kids, ages 0-18. Friday’s meals include food for the weekend! Food Distribution Program Care & Share will be distributing food boxes on Fri., August July 31st from 2:45 pm to 5:45 pm. Last month the program provided 119 families with extra food. If you or someone you know is in need, please contact Madeline Bednarek at 541-593- 3653 or email to: madelineb@q.com to participate The COVID-19 Nonprofit Fund sponsored by the Sunriver Women’s Club awarded $2,000 to support three local nonprofits continuing to provide essential services to the community. - Habitat for Humanity of La Pine Sunriver received the award for emergency hiring of subcontractors when volunteer labor could not assist due to COVID restrictions and for safety measure expenses for their volunteers. -La Pine Community Kitchen received the award to meet the 50% increased demand for to-go
meals and food pantry boxes and for new safety expenses for outdoor diners. -Council on Aging received the award to support the demand for their senior community meals, which transitioned from dine-in social gatherings to Grab-n-Go meals and will not be able to meet the expanded need without the award. Sunriver Blood Drive The Sunriver American Red Cross Blood Drive will be holding their next blood drive at the Community Bible Church at Sunriver on Monday, August 31 from noon to 5 pm. Please do not come to the blood drive as a "walk-in" as all donor appointments will be scheduled online. Sunriver Emergency Alert System Similar to tsunami warning sirens used along the Oregon coast, the Sunriver community is equipped with outdoor sirens that can "sound the alarm" if there is an imminent threat to the community. Sign Up For Deschutes Emergency Alerts The Deschutes Alert System (DAS) can be used to notify the public with important information during an emergency. Emergencies happen with little or no notice at any time of the day or night. With DAS, we can relay critical information to you about natural disasters or other emergencies that require your immediate attention. You may be eligible for this payment if you: Click Here Deschutes County COVID-19 Updates The Oregon Health Authority reports an increase of 6 COVID-19 cases in Deschutes County. Of 645 cases, 419 are recovered and 215 are active. St. Charles Health System has 8 COVID-19 patients. 1 of the patients is in the ICU and 0 are on a ventilator. Patients hospitalized in the St. Charles Health System may have residence outside of Deschutes County. For more information, please Click Here Find a Testing Site in Oregon OHA is partnering with Google, Castlight and local public health authorities to help you find local information about where testing is available. While we are working hard to keep the information about where Oregonians can get a COVID-19 test as up to date as possible, you should contact the site first to make sure testing is still occurring. OHA cannot guarantee that you will be able to get tested at one of these sites. It is always best to contact your health care provider about getting a COVID-19 test. Details Contact Tracing If you've been in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, you may be contacted by a contact tracer or public health worker from your state or local health department. Be aware of scammers pretending to be COVID-19 contact tracers. Legitimate contact tracers will never ask for your Medicare Number or financial information. If someone calls and asks for personal information, like your Medicare Number, hang up and report it to us at 1-800- MEDICARE. COVID-19 & Insects Mosquito and tick bites don’t spread coronaviruses. The main way that COVID-19 spreads is from person-to-person. Practice social distancing, wash your hands often, and wear a cloth face covering to prevent the spread.
