WELCOME TO 2020 DSC SUMMER DAY CAMP! Dear Parents, We want to take this opportunity to thank you for signing up and to welcome you to our summer program and thank you for trusting us with your child this summer! We will make every effort to make this a positive and fun experience for you and your child. This summer we have many new and exciting plans for our campers. We have added many activities, special guests, equipment and trips that are sure to delight our campers. Every year we work very hard to improve our program. Last summer we had over 600 campers registered in our program, with approximately 300 campers attending each day and we expect to have more this year. We are extremely proud of our staff and are pleased to announce that more than 85% are returning for another summer!!! DSC Summer Day Camp wants our campers and counselors to be a part of a safe, happy and fun environment that shares a common core set of values. We work towards demonstrating these values in our daily activities and relationships among campers and counselors. We hope these values will influence our campers to respond with positive actions and reactions throughout their life. This Parent Survival Pack contains all of the information you will need to complete your registration for your child to attend the DSC Summer Day Camp. Please read it carefully, as it will answer many of your questions about our summer camp and help you to understand our program. Returning camp parents should also review this information, as many changes and additions are made from year to year. Please make sure that you fill out and return all of the required paperwork as soon as possible in order to secure the dates that you have selected. All forms must be returned to our office before your child can attend camp. Completed forms can be mailed, faxed, emailed or dropped off personally at our facility. We encourage you to review the information included in this packet with your child to ensure that your child’s camp experience is a positive one. You will receive a pre-camp letter by June 1st with any final information about our program. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Sincerely. Ashley Riebel Camp Administrator 4

You may also speak to one of the Directors when dropping off or picking up your child. If you have an urgent matter during the camp day, please have the front desk page one the Camp administrator. Please note: If you call after 5pm on a weeknight or on Saturday or Sunday, NO ONE will be able to answer your camp questions or address your camp concerns. Camp is a completely separate entity from our weeknight and weekend business. Camp Staff We are extremely excited about the team we have assembled this year. With approximately 50 counselors, consisting of at least 35 returning counselors. All of our counselors are current college students, many of whom are currently teaching or pursuing degrees in education or other child-related fields, college graduates, or teachers. All of our counselors and camp staff go through an extensive orientation, state background check, fingerprinting process. as well as CPR and First Aid certification each year. Because this is a summer camp and the campers are on vacation, each counselor ensures that their campers have the best time possible at summer camp. Counselors engage the camper’s special interests and provoke new friendships among campers. Camp Hours DSC Summer Day Camp hours are from 9:00am -4:30pm. Extended care is provided from 7:00-9:00am and 4:30-6:00pm at no additional cost. Camp Groups/Counselor to Camper Ratios ● Campers are placed in separate groups according to the grade level they have completed during the 2019/2020 school year. When filling out the camp paperwork please make sure to fill in the correct grade. We accept campers ranging in ages 4-14. ● Ratios: Our counselor/camper ratio is 6:1 in PK/K groups. In groups 1st - 8th grade, there is a 10:1 ratio. Children that are in different grade levels cannot be placed in the same groups. ● Each camp grade will have several Head Counselors who will work with them throughout the summer. These are the counselors with the most experience at DSC Summer Day Camp, most of who are teachers. 6
PK & K Program PK & K make up our youngest camp groups. The PK group is for those campers who have just completed PK or will be starting PK in the fall. A few important details about these groups: Counselor/Camper ratio for PK and K groups is 6:1, 5:1 on Field Trips, and 4:1 on water Field trips. ● Our PK and K campers will be offered Skating Lessons one day each week. ● All campers must be completely potty trained; however, we know an occasional accident may occur. In this case the child must be able to clean up and change their own clothes. All PK and K campers are required to have a change of clothes everyday. If they do not have a change of clothes, the child will remain in the triage area until they can be provided with clean clothes. 7
DAILY OPERATIONS Tutor Time Each day between 8:00am and 9:00am we have an area designated for Study Time. If you would like your child to receive extra help with their schoolwork or spend time reading, please sign your child up during check in. You must provide the materials for your child. We do not guarantee any results, but we do our best to help each child. Camp Roll Call In the morning, the entire camp gathers on the skating surface from 9:00 – 9:15 am. We use this time to get the campers and counselors excited about their day, go over the schedule of activities, and special events of the day. Additionally, we discuss current events, camper’s birthdays, listen to some fun jokes and music. During this time our staff conducts a camp wide roll call and takes lunch orders. Each time campers arrive and depart a service area, arrive and depart lunch, we conduct a head count. We also gather in the afternoon on the skating surface to conduct a camp wide roll call. At this time we also select a Camper of the Day for each grade level! Daily Schedule After the 9am roll call, all campers are separated by grade level and placed on different surfaces. Each grade follows their individualized daily schedule which consists of multiple periods. Each period involves every grade changing surfaces and participating in different activities, games, and events. Each grade has at least one period outside each day, which is almost always in the morning. The schedule varies for each grade every day. Lunch/Snack Lunch Snack PK-1st: 11:00 am PK-2nd: 3:00 pm 2nd- 4th: 11:30 am 3rd-8th: 3:30 pm 5th-8th: 12:00 pm ● Campers will make his/her lunch choice during morning roll call at 9am. 8

(Cereal with milk is available from 7-8:45 for $1) ● Lunch and Snack Menus are located on our website and are available at the camp desk. ● If your child has ANY food allergies please be sure to note this on your Health and Wellness form. We will require them to wear a red wristband (provided) with allergies listed for all staff to be aware of their food allergies. ● We recommend a packed lunch and snack if your child has any food allergies. ● Our staff will contact you with any questions about allergies. ● A second lunch may be purchased during lunch for $2.00 ● Campers can choose between the main lunch, a slice of pizza, a hot dog, or a peanut butter and jelly. ● Also included with lunch is our unlimited fruit and yogurt bar. ● Campers will have a choice of water, iced tea, fruit punch or lemonade for lunch and snack. Water will be available to campers throughout the day. ● If your child does not like the lunch/snack choices on any particular day, you MUST send them to camp with his/her own lunch/snack. These items may be kept in their cubbie or an insulated lunch bag. We do not have refrigeration or microwaves available to the campers. ● If you would like to send in extra snacks for your child, please put them in a lunch bag. They will have an opportunity to get them during free time or by asking their counselor. Free Time Every day from 12:45 - 2:45pm all campers will have “Free Time”. During this period, campers may choose from the following activities: skating, arcade games, fun zone, video games, and crafts. Your child may wish to bring in money to play the arcade games and purchase food from our snack bar during Free Time. Envelopes will be available at the camp desk to store their money. We suggest you put a daily limit on how much they can spend, if no limit is set by the parent we cannot enforce one. These envelopes will be kept at the camp desk and will be handed out during free time. Campers should return any money they have not spent to the camp desk at the end of free time. This will be available to them on their next camp day. ● We prefer that campers do not keep money in their cubbies or on themselves as it can be lost ● The DSC Summer Day Camp staff will not be responsible for any money not kept at the camp desk or money that is lost or stolen from campers’ bags. 9
Extended Care During the before & after care program (7-9am and 4:30-6pm) all campers will be in the snack bar and fun zone areas. During this time campers are permitted to play board games or do an arts and crafts activity. At this time, we may also show movies or have the campers play games on the skating floor. During these hours, campers will be with children from every grade level and are not in assigned groups. Camp Special Days There is a Camp Calendar available with our Special Days and Activities. Please encourage your campers to participate in these events! These activities are fun for both the campers and counselors and help enrich our program. The campers really look forward to the Special Days. A weekly newsletter with be made available with details on events will be emailed to you and also located at the front desk. We have several guest appearances this year that include magicians, science shows, and more! We are very excited about these guests! Please check your calendar so that you don’t miss any of these fun events! If for any reason one of the Special Days is canceled or rescheduled, we cannot cancel, credit, or refund you for that camp day. Water Play Day Water Play Day takes place in our fenced in backyard area on our inflatable water slide, slip and slide, blow up pools, splash wars game, and water balloons. Water Play Days occur once a month, weather permitting. Swim Trips at Chartwell Swim Club All campers will have an opportunity to swim one day a week at the Chartwell Swim Club located in Marlton, NJ. This beautiful swim club has 6 pools, a splash park, playground, and 10

Please check to make sure that your child is on this list when checking in the morning of a field trip. ● Campers attending field trips must arrive at camp by 9:00am. Campers who arrive after 9:00am will not be permitted to attend the trip. No exceptions! It is a huge undertaking getting this many campers ready for the trip & we are unable to accept any campers on the trip after 9:00am. We cannot make any changes after 9:00am, as we need to make sure we are completely prepared to leave promptly. What Campers Should Bring on a Field Trip ● Packed lunch/drink, unless stated on trip form that it is included (Campers are not permitted to buy lunch on any field trips). If they are only missing their camp shirt we are able to provide them with one and payment must be made immediately, $6.00. check within the week. There will be no credits for that day of camp. We will not remove a camp day from your Enrollment Contract due to a canceled field trip. Check-In/Check-Out Procedures The check-in process is extremely important, as it is our way of keeping track of all the campers that attend camp that day. Please allow extra time in the morning to allow us to carefully check in each camper and please be patient with our staff. Although we do try to get campers checked in quickly, it does take a few minutes to check in each child. Check-In: ● Parents and campers will not be permitted to enter the building until 7:00 AM. ● Please park in a space, do not pull up to the doors. ● You must accompany your child into the building and check them in at the Front Desk. ● You must sign each child in every morning with your signature and time dropping off. ● You may leave spending money for your child for snacks or games in an envelope with the child’s first and last name. We will not be held responsible for any money that was not kept at the front desk. ● Campers going on field trips will check in at our Trip Sign In table. ● Please have your child head straight back to the snack bar area and not hang at the front while you are signing in. It can become crowded for other parents waiting to sign in. ● If you have questions or want to speak to a director please sign in and then wait off to the side, this will help everyone else get signed in. Check-Out: ● All check out is done at the Front Desk. ● I.D. Please! When picking up your child from camp, you will be asked to show identification. Our staff does get to know the parents and you may not be asked for ID because they recognize you. Please bring it with you in case a new staff person is at the check out desk. This is for the safety of your child. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS! ● The only people who will be permitted to pick up your child are those who are listed on your child’s Emergency Contact Card. No one will be permitted to pick up a child without being listed on card and photo ID. ● To add someone to your pick up list you must do it in person or via email. No one can be added to the Emergency Card over the phone. This is for everyone’s safety. ● Once identification has been checked, we will notify your child and ask them to report to the Camp Desk. We understand that parents are often in a hurry; however, it may take a few minutes for your child to gather his/her belongings and come to the front. We appreciate your patience in this matter. 15
● All campers must be picked up by 6:00 pm. If you are unable to pick up your child by 6:00 pm please contact one of the authorized persons on your Emergency Contact Form to pick up your child. You will be charged a late fee of $1 per minute, per child if you do not arrive by 6pm. ● If your child’s name is highlighted during sign-out, ask the front desk person, you may have a note to go home. Parking Lot Safety We understand that most parents are in a hurry when dropping off and picking up their child. Please be very cautious in the parking lot as it can get very busy in the morning and evening as well. Please do not park directly in front of building/doors. This makes it difficult for others that have parked in a parking spot and people with strollers or wheelchairs. Also this area is needed for buses on field trip days and in case of fire. Dress Code We encourage all campers to wear closed toe shoes, and shorts or pants. Socks are needed to skate, play in the Funzone, and inflatables. We do not recommend campers wearing skirts, dresses, or flip flops. These items make it difficult to participate in some of our fun activities! All shorts must be an appropriate length. All tops must cover stomach and chest areas completely. No offensive or inappropriate images on clothing are permitted. DSC does not allow hats to be worn in the facility. Anyone not following the dress code will have their parents called to bring them something new to wear. Policy on Illness & the Management of Communicable Diseases We are concerned with the health and welfare of each child at our camp. To prevent illness from being spread to other campers, please do not send your child to camp when they are ill or possibly contagious. No credits or changes will be made if your child is sent home sick. If your child becomes sick while at camp, he/she will be taken to the Health Director. We do not have a nurse on duty; however, our entire camp staff completes a course in CPR and the Health Director has experience in first aid. Any time a child complains of any injury or illness they are taken to the Triage. If any of the following symptoms occur at camp, you will be contacted to pick up your child: ● Temperature over 100 degrees ● Severe cold with cough or bronchitis ● Difficult, rapid breathing ● Severe pain or discomfort, including ear or throat ● Vomiting ● Diarrhea ● Rashes that cannot be identified or have not been diagnosed by a physician 16
● Contagious diseases such as measles, chicken pox, mumps, rosella, pink eye, or impetigo (we would appreciate a call notifying us so we can pass the information concerning potential exposure on to the other campers) ● Unusual behavior (i.e. extreme lethargy, refusing food or drink) ● Any infected skin area (ringworm, lice, etc) Upon notification, we require that your child be picked up within one hour. Children sent home from camp because of illness may not return to camp until they are: ● Free of symptoms for 24 hours ● On the appropriate medication for 24 hours and ● Have a physician’s note stating that they are free of symptoms and not contagious Medication All medications must be turned in at the Camp Desk with a Medication form. These forms are available at the camp desk. Parents must provide any cautionary information specific to the medication. All medication MUST be labeled and stored in the original prescription container and have good expiration dates. Medications will be stored in a secure area that is inaccessible to campers. All pill medications must be given as a one day supply each morning and the bottle will be returned at the end of the day. Inhalers and EpiPens can be left at camp for the entire summer. If you would like us to dispense Tylenol to your child for headaches/minor ailments, please indicate this on the Health & Wellness Form. A Director will always contact you before Tylenol is administered. Please do not send your child to camp with medicine in their bags or pockets. This includes inhalers and EpiPens. This is dangerous to your child and other children and will not be tolerated. Your child will be sent home from camp immediately. Injury If your child receives a minor injury (i.e. scrape, cut, bruise, bump, etc.) while at camp, he/she will be taken to the Camp Triage. The Health Director on duty will assess the situation and take care of any minor incidents. If the Health Director feels the incident warrants further attention, he/she will notify the Camp Director. We cannot call every parent for every minor bump or bruise, but we will contact you if necessary. If your child becomes seriously ill or injured at camp, a Director will contact you immediately. If we feel it is necessary, we will contact 911 immediately. A Director will accompany your child to the hospital and will stay until you arrive. Once at the hospital, our staff will not 17
authorize any medical treatment. All injured campers will be taken to Inspira Medical Center (Formerly Underwood Memorial Hospital) located in Woodbury, New Jersey. Incident reports will be filled out for all minor injuries/incidents by the Health Director and you will be given the report when you pick up your child. Camp Discipline Policy It is the DSC Summer Day Camps goal is to provide a healthy, safe, and secure environment for all campers. Campers must be picked up within one hour. Please note that if you are contacted to pick up your child from camp due to behavior issues, you will not receive a credit/refund for that day. If we decide to terminate your child’s camp enrollment due to behavior issues, you will not receive a credit/refund for the week that the camper was terminated. We will terminate 18
his/her enrollment at the end of that camp week and you will not be charged for any week/s after. If a child is expelled from camp they may not return to camp in the future. If your child is expelled from camp, siblings of that child may continue to attend camp; however, if you decide to remove your other children from camp, you are still responsible for paying for all the days/weeks the siblings were originally enrolled for. Referral Program We are pleased to continue to offer our referral program to our camp families. If you refer a family to the camp that has never attended and they enroll, once the new family submits their enrollment paperwork you will receive a $50 credit towards your child’s tuition. The new 20
camp family must fill out on their registration form that you referred them. Only one referral credit will be issued for each new camp family. Camp T-Shirts ● All campers will be given a camp T-shirt at the PreCamp Party or on their first day. ● If your child is attending a field trip on their first day of camp we will issue the T-shirt at check in. ● Campers are not required to wear their camp T-shirts to camp each day, but MUST wear them on all field trips. This is for your child’s safety. ● If your child arrives to camp without their T-shirt and is scheduled to attend a field trip, we will be able to provide one for them. A payment of $6.00 must be made immediately. ● We also ask that you send your child to camp each day with a bag or backpack. This will help them to keep track of their belongings. ● Please note that each camper only receives one camp T-shirt, but additional shirts may be purchased. Sunscreen All campers will spend time outside each day. Please apply sunscreen to your child before he/she arrives at camp. If your child is attending any field trip, it is imperative that you apply sunscreen to him/her before coming to camp. If you pack a spray sunscreen a counselor can assist PK, K, & 1st campers in reapplying their sunscreen on field trips. Additionally, counselors will remind the older campers to do so throughout the day when they are outside. Please send in sunscreen in your camper’s bag each day. We cannot allow children to share sunscreen with other campers. Fire Drills Our staff conducts a fire drill twice a month on a different day and time. This is for the safety of the campers. Drills ensure that if there were an emergency, campers will know what to do. 21
Explanation of Camp Forms Enrollment/Field Trip Contract The Enrollment Contract allows you to choose the days and trips you would like your child to attend camp. If we receive your completed Enrollment/Field Trip Contract by May 11 you are guaranteed to receive all of the days and trips that you selected.
