DIRECTOR’S WELCOME Dear Student Welcome to the 1st semester of the 2018 academic year! The staff of the Centre for Open and Lifelong Learning (COLL) trusts that you will make a concerted effort to be successful in your studies during this semester. In order to realise this objective, it is important that you interact meaningfully with your tutors/lecturers and staff at the COLL. You should therefore read this Pocket Guide thoroughly to familiarise yourself with the requirements for studying on the distance education mode which is a mode of study which includes offering of both print and eLearning courses. We aim to do our best to set up support systems in order to assist you with your studies. We are aware of the specific circumstances of many distance education students and the various responsibilities you need to attend to while studying. In this regard, we provide excellent student support services to ensure meaningful learning and reduce the isolation you experience as a distance education student. I trust that you will have a successful semester and wish you all the best with your studies! COLL DIRECTOR Dr Delvaline Möwes 3
