Defiance County Board of DD 95 Island Park Ave. Defiance, OH 43512 SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH The Defiance County Board of Developmental Disabilities has a strong community presence and has earned overwhelming support in its efforts to enhance the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities. By encouraging the use of existing services and natural supports the board strives to allocate its available resources in the most efficient and effective manner in keeping with the community values. Now the Defiance County Board of Developmental Disabilities is seeking a proven leader with an established record of innovation, management and communication skills and vision for the future to become their next Superintendent. The ideal candidate will exhibit the ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with Board members, individuals eligible for services and their families, employees, providers, advocates and the Defiance County community at large. The board desires a collegial leader with proven fiscal understanding, creativity, strategic thinking skills and political savvy. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in home and community based services, levy campaigns, and a commitment to community involvement. Ideally the board would like the perfect candidate to be prepared to assume the responsibilities beginning the week of January 5, 2014. Primary Superintendent Duties • Responsible for the administration and operation of the Defiance CBDD. • Responsible for implementation of the strategic plan; development and implementation of the annual plan and medicaid services plan adopted by the Board. • Recommend policies to the Board that will increase the effectiveness of programs and services. • Approve all personnel actions for positions approved by the Board. • Approve contracts of employment for management employees that are for a term of one year or less. • Provide consultation to Public Agencies, including other CBDD and to individuals, agencies, or organizations providing services to the CBDD. • Develop, implement and maintain a positive public relations program; be actively involved in appropriate associations and State agencies. • Develop and maintain positive relationships with individuals served, families, elected public officials, providers and civic organizations. • Ensure procedures are implemented and adhered to that clearly and transparently demonstrate the CBDD is a good steward of tax payer dollars. ∗ At the time of employment the selected candidate must possess a valid County Board of Developmental Disabilities Certification issued by The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities. Candidates who do not hold a current certificate should refer to Ohio Administrative Code 5123:2-5-03 Superintendent Certification Standards to determine if he or she meets the criteria for certification. The Good Samaritan School includes 4 preschool units. All units operate all-day, five days per week and include identified as well as typically developing children. The Good Samaritan School includes five school-aged classrooms. Except for an adult “senior” day habilitation program operated by the Defiance County Board of DD does not provide direct services for adults. The Defiance County Board of DD is fully committed to community employment including the Bridges program. The Defiance County Board of Developmental Disabilities operates the transportation system for Good Samaritan School’s preschool and school age program as well as for the Seniors Program. The community employment efforts are also supported with transportation assistance through the board. Other day habilitation and/or work centers provide transportation to individuals who chose them. The Superintendent oversees the county board operation including the direct administration of the transportation services with direct reports of a Business Manager and Children Services Director.
