Artwork By Bob Meyers The artwork of Bob Meyers will be on display in Greenfield Banking Company’s Art Gallery from January through March, 2018. Bob Meyers is an Indiana native, residing on the northside of Indianapolis for his entire 60 years of life. At an early age Bob loved to draw. Art classes were his favorite throughout grade school and high school. While attending Ball State University, Bob majored in Graphic Design and Painting. Computer graphics had not yet been developed so most of his instruction was learning to draw what you see. At the time, graphic design courses required the ability to copy a photograph as exactly as possible and Bob developed a skill for this. Whether rendering with a pencil or working the brushes, Bob discovered he could copy the referenced photo into the drawing or painting. Following college, Bob worked in computer graphics, creating vinyl decals used on semi-trucks Bob Meyers, Artist and trailers, which included screen printing, digital printing and cutting out the images. Bob has an eye for detail and wants the viewer to know what they are looking at. His challenge: To let the colors from the pallet work against the dark and black background to show and capture the light source, especially in his night scenes. Bob enrolled in watercolor painting at the Indianapolis Art Center, studying under the direction of renowned artist Paul Sweany, whom Bob noted was a great source of inspiration. Paul’s guidance influenced Bob’s gravitation to paint pieces with a nature theme. Bob is a member of The Watercolor Society of Indiana, Hoosier Salon, Indiana Artists Club and Indiana Wildlife Artists. His work has been exhibited at the Indiana State Fair, the Eagle Creek and Cool Creek Park annual shows and the Ann King Gallery in Zionsville, IN. Bob’s GBC Art Gallery exhibit is dedicated to his parents, John and Wanda. He gratefully acknowledges their support and encouragement, which allowed him to pursue the arts. “I was an Art Kid. I always enjoyed making things and testing my skills. Art Is Fun”, comments Bob. The public is invited to visit Greenfield Banking Company’s Art Gallery from January through March, 2018 to view Bob Meyers artwork. The GBC Art Gallery, located on the second floor of the Main Office, 1920 North State Street (SR 9), Greenfield, IN is open to the public during normal business hours: M – Th, 9 – 5; Fri, 9 – 6; Sat, 9 – Noon. From The President’s Desk Thank you to all our customers, associates, friends and shareholders! This year was yet another quick moment in time and one filled with fun events and special moments as we celebrated 145 years of serving our communities and friends. This year was exciting and fruitful as we went all out to extensively renovate both the inside and outside of our Fortville Office while we also saw great and beautiful buildings grow up all around our New Palestine Office. Our other facilities also were busy as we served many customers around Cumberland and McCordsville as well as our three offices in Greenfield and of course, our office in Indianapolis at 96th and Keystone. As is our custom since 1871, Greenfield Banking Company employees work hard every day to help you in banking, lending and investment needs. And if you have a moment then please drop by our Fortville Office for a chat and a quick moment checking John Kennedy out not only that branch but admire the great things happening in that town. And don’t forget to peak over at New Pal and GBC President & CEO Cumberland and McCordsville and most definitely Greenfield – all exceptional towns with great folks doing wonderful things while decking out their streets and buildings. Finally, it is that time of year again where we say have a happy, jolly holiday season filled with laughter and good cheer with friends and family. Consumer Awareness Equifax Data Breach Recently, Equifax, one of the three national consumer credit reporting agencies, announced a major data breach. This breach affects approximately 143 million Americans. This is what we know according to Equifax: the data breach occurred May – July 2017, and the information stolen includes consumers’ personally identifiable information, including names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses and, in some cases, driver’s license numbers. Approximately 209,000 credit card numbers and dispute documents with personally identifiable information for approximately 182,000 consumers were also stolen. There is no evidence of unauthorized access to consumers’ credit reporting databases. To be clear, Greenfield Banking Company was not compromised and your information was not stolen from our bank. However, Greenfield Banking Company takes the security of our customer information very seriously, and we are providing you with the information we know about this massive breach and the steps you can take to protect your personally identifiable information if you so desire. Following this unprecedented breach, we are also asking our customers to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious activity in your Greenfield Banking Company accounts to Greenfield Banking Company by calling 317-462-1431 or contacting us through our website at www.gbcbank.com. Equifax has established a website that informs consumers if they may be affected by the breach, provides additional information on the breach, and offers complimentary identity theft protection and credit file monitoring. This information is available at www.equifaxsecurity2017.com. To protect your identity and personal information, Greenfield Banking Company strongly encourages our customers to take the actions noted below. • Review your account statements to spot any suspicious transactions. You can also monitor your account activity through NetTeller, online banking at any time at www.gbcbank.com. If you spot any suspicious transactions, please contact us immediately at 317-462-1431 or at one of our branches. • Consider if you should place an initial fraud alert on your credit report (see https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0275-place-fraud-alert). • Consider if you should freeze your credit file (see https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0497-credit-freeze-faqs). • Review your credit reports for accuracy. Call any one of the three credit reporting agencies to receive your free annual credit report or visit www.annualcreditreport.gov. Experian ® TransUnion® Equifax® P.O. Box 9554 P.O. Box 2000 P.O. If you believe you are the victim of identity theft, contact your local law enforcement office and/or your state attorney general. Finally, you may also want to consider reviewing information about recovering from identity theft, which is available from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at https:// www.identitytheft.gov/ or by calling 1-877-IDTHEFT (1-877-438-4338). The FTC also offers general information to protect your online presence at https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/topics/privacy-identity-online-security. Equifax has established a dedicated toll-free number to answer questions you may have about the Equifax data breach and its effect on your personally identifiable information. You may call them at 866-447-7559. *************************************************************************** Calls from 877-382-4357? Hang up. Scammers are using fake caller ID information to trick you into thinking they’re someone who can be trusted. The practice is called caller ID spoofing, and scammers can fake anyone’s phone number. Scammers are spoofing the FTC’s Consumer Response Center’s phone number (877-382-4357). But don’t let that stop you from reporting scammers — it’s still safe to call the Consumer Response Center and it’s also safe to report scammers online. If you’ve submitted a report or request to the FTC’s Consumer Response Center, the FTC might call you for additional information. We won’t call you from 877- 382-4357. And the FTC will never ask for money or for sensitive information such as your Social Security number, date of birth or bank account information. Scammers are constantly picking new phone numbers to spoof. Here are a few tips for staying ahead of scammers and their unexpected calls: • If you get a strange call from a government phone number, hang up. If you want to check it out, visit the official (.gov) website for contact information. • Don’t give out — or confirm — your personal or financial information to someone who calls. • Don’t wire money or send money using a reloadable card. In fact, never pay someone who calls out of the blue, even if the name or number on the caller ID looks legit. • Feeling pressured to act immediately? Hang up. That’s a sure sign of a scam. If you’ve gotten a call from a scammer, with or without fake caller ID information, report it to the FTC. https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/2017/10/call-877-382- 4357-hang?utm_source=govdelivery By Andrew Johnson, Consumer Education Specialist, FTC GBC Notes is published quarterly for customers of Greenfield Banking Company to provide information about the Bank, educational banking tools and community involvement.
