We can make the difference “When people think about a disaster they think about an earthquake or a volcano, a tsunami or even a health event. But that’s not the disaster – the disaster is a social event. Disasters are an interaction between the hazard and what vulnerabilities you have in your society." That's a quote from a disaster expert reflecting on the 10 year anniversary of the Christchurch earthquake. So far we have had three crises in the last 12 months, two of them still ongoing as they try to find the cause of our elusive water lead levels, and we return to a south of Auckland level 2 alert as they try to track down the latest covid outbreak. So far we have avoided disaster, but can we keep doing so? In a nationwide crisis that affects everybody we won't have access to the resources that the DCC have been giving us, but will be pretty much on our own. This is the sort of situation that our emergency response preparation Join us for a fun community meeting is helping us get ready night out. for, finding out which resources we have, and which we need to develop.
