The right solution for you - service overview We offer a range of piling solutions for any type of earth or water retention challenge, whether temporary or permanent structures. Our range of installation and extraction methods enable us to overcome a variety of challenges; from difficult ground conditions to sites with limited access and environmentally sensitive locations.
The right solution for you – Sheet Piling - Steel sheet piles of varying lengths can be sold, hired or offered on sale and buy-back arrangement - Made from recycled material, sheet piles are either Z or U profile. - We hold in excess of 3,000 tonnes of sheet piles in stock at our Midlands based headquarters, allowing us to respond quickly to any requirement. - Piles are connected together to make a sealed wall and are installed using one of two main methods: o Vibration: piles are installed using a vibratory hammer which can be rig mounted or crane suspended o Pressing: piles can be pressed in without vibration or noise. This method is favourable in noise or environmentally sensitive areas and urban conurbations. - This method is frequently used in the construction of bridge piers, cofferdams, jetties and retaining walls in tidal locations and inland waterways
The right solution for you – King Post Wall - An alternative solution to sheet piling, comprising horizontal concrete or timber panels which are inserted into pre-installed vertical beams - This method is generally used where ground conditions are too hard for sheet piling.
The right solution for you – Driven Piles - Deep foundation elements driven to a design depth or resistance. If penetration of dense soil is required, pre-drilling may be required for the pile to penetrate to the design depth. Types include timber, pre-cast concrete, steel H-piles, and recycled steel pipes - This method is typically used where a cost effective deep foundation solution is required
The right solution for you – Bored Piling - A non-displacement form of foundation that is cast in-situ and provides economical load bearing and walling solutions suited to a wide range of ground conditions and applications - Usually bored pile is used for tall buildings or massive industrial complexes, which require foundations that can bear the load of thousands of tonnes, most probably in unstable or difficult soil conditions.
The right solution for you – Combi Wall - Combi walls are reinforced sheet pile walls, a combination of tubular piles and sheet piles. Like sheet piles, tubular piles are fitted with interlocks so that the elements can be attached to each other. Tubular piles give the structure strength and the intermediate sheet piles create the watertight seal - Generally used for deep excavation pits, tunnel entrances, quay walls and car parks – their robust structure can withstand greater loads and are available at higher water retaining heights
In-House Design Services - In house team of qualified engineers producing comprehensive design analyses using specialist software - We identify the most economical solution to meet our clients specific requirements
Equipment & Fleet Management Our comprehensive range of plant equipment and vehicle fleet is wholly owned and deployed to best meet the needs of the project. Our in house transport management enables us to offer a uniquely controlled and rapidly mobilised piling solution anywhere in the UK Our equipment inventory includes: • Excavator Mounted Movax • CFA Piling Rigs • Telescopic Leader Rigs • Crawler Cranes • Giken Silent Piling • Floating Plant • Supercrush Piling • Fleet of HGV vehicles
Relevant Experience – Case Studies Silent Piling (Giken) Project: Melbourne, Australia: Level Crossing Renewal Client: John Holland The Challenge: To install sheet piles in close proximity to a live railway line in extremely hard ground conditions, in a restricted area The Solution: Giken ECO700S complete with Supercrush Auger system. This solution was used because of restrictive access, noise / vibration and ground conditions. We were selected to supply this equipment, being the only sub-contractor in the UK to own this specialist plant and be able to mobilise at short notice.
Our Giken Supercrush installing 11.5m sheet piles on a night time possession at Ealing Broadway Station, London W5
Relevant Experience – Case Studies Sheet Piling – Floating / Pontoon work Project: Rushden Lakes, Northamptonshire, UK Client: McLaren Construction Group The Challenge: Development comprising a 74,000 sq ft home and garden centre, 340,000 sq ft of retail units, a drive-thru restaurant, lakeside visitor centre, a hotel, crèche and leisure club. The Solution: To deliver a multi-discipline solution, involving both temporary and permanent sheet piles, plus driven bearing piles to provide support for a huge raised platform.
Relevant Experience – Case Studies Bored Piling Project: Smethwick Midland Metropolitan Hospital Client: Carillion The Challenge: To install 2,000 concrete piles up to 750mm. This was particularly difficult considering poor ground conditions coupled with extreme wet weather, adding to the complexity of the solution The Solution: Mobilise 4 CFA Piling Rigs to install 2000 piles in 8-10 weeks. We providing the bored piling solution for foundations of the £558 million hospital, including provisions for a 1700 space underground car park.
Relevant Experience – Case Studies Supercrush Project: Heads of the Valleys A465, South Wales Client: Costain The Challenge: As part of a £220m scheme to widen the A465 into dual-carriageway, two lines of sheet piles were required to be installed into solid rock adjacent to a live carriageway. The Solution: Utilising two Giken ECO700S Super Crush machines, we have been able to pre-auger the ground to accept 12m long PU32 sheet piles to level vibration free through solid rock. An amazing feat and a landmark job for Ivor King.
