Introduction

PocketStars is a sex-worker friendly platform, that enables content creators to
sell their digital content through a monthly subscription. Our motto “by content
creators, for content creators” is influenced by our founder Elle Brooke, an
established and proud sex-worker who has spent the last 3 years building her
brand and income using alternative platforms. Through Elle’s hands-on creator
experience and our teams extensive marketing knowledge and expertise, we are
confident that the additional support we provide to you as a creator, will help
maximise your earning potential.

The most important ethos for the PocketStars team is to provide a secure and
sex-worker friendly space for creators to operate. This means no risk of sudden
deletion without prior notice or explanation, a 24 hour max response time from
our support team and an inclusive community that does not prioritise certain
body types, races or genders.

The site has been built with 3 main goals:

1 To improve interaction between fans and creators –
We believe that the key to growing your brand and earnings is through
       the retention of current subscribers.

2 To promote teamwork and communication between creators –
It is our strong belief that if creators work together, bounce ideas off of
one another and support each other, they will be in a better position to
grow their brand; and the industry as a whole will be a much more
       positive environment to operate in.

3 To give back to the community of creators & sex workers
that work so hard to grow and improve –
We want to make each and every creator feel more valued and give them
       the recognition they deserve.

Introduction

For the first goal, the features we have built within the site have all been
designed with the vision of improving the interaction level between creators and
their fans whilst simplifying the process to do so. Through extensive market
research, we recognise that fans are much more likely to renew their subscription
if they are subjected to a more personal level of interaction.

As a creator, if you solely focus on promotion rather than retention, your
subscription base becomes a “leaky bucket”. As you add new subscribers, existing
ones drop off and the rate of growth substantially reduces. We want to support
you in finding the balance between promotion/marketing for new subscribers
and maintaining your current subscribers for a longer period.

For the second goal, we are going to be working closely with creators through
supporting and incentivising both communication and teamwork with one
another. We will be hosting regular forums and networking groups for creators to
discuss key aspects of their everyday job, provide suggestions for others and take
advice to implement within their own work.

For the third goal, we will be investing a large chunk of our profits back into the
site, for developing new features to ensure the platform is industry leading, whilst
also providing additional rewards and incentives to our hard-working creators.

A good example of this is our Personal Achievement Plans. This is a bespoke
reward scheme tailored to each creator based on their own earnings and fan
count. So rather than just a %, you will have achievable targets to work towards
that provide additional rewards at each milestone. These rewards include gift
cards, branded merchandise/underwear, professional photoshoots,
teambuilding/networking days with other creators and even HOLIDAYS!

Chapter 1: Branding

Intro:

Whether you are starting out in the industry or looking to improve/grow,
branding is a key factor to consider. Your brand is the first impression for a
potential subscriber when they are looking to purchase new content. The end
goal is to ensure you are easily identifiable amongst other creators since the
market is becoming more and more saturated.

Performer name:

When deciding on your first performer/stage name or simply rebranding, it is
important that you think long and hard about how accessible and memorable
your name will be. You need to find the balance between it being simple and
exclusive. We would always advise against just using a common name.

Example:
Instead of Jess_xox, try and add something to it which is specific enough for fans
to be able to find and remember you. This could be done by adding a second
name (Jess Jones) or incorporating your fetish/kink into it (Goddess Jess).

Focusing on a niche or kink:

Your brand needs to be specific to you, so focusing on what niche or kink you are
catering for is a good place to start – you want to be recognised for being a top
creator within the niche/kink you focus on.

Example:
If you are a someone that can squirt and you film lots of content that
incorporates this, you want to highlight and incorporate this into your brand. This
does not mean you that you have to JUST film squirting content, but it makes
sense to build your brand around it since it’s a recognised niche with a large
target fanbase.

Chapter 1: Branding

Other examples of kinks/niches to incorporate into your brand:
  Domination
  Findom
  Watersports/Hardsports
  BDSM

Tailoring your brand based on the interests of your fans:

The focus for your brand can also extend outside of what we consider sex-work
specific niches. A large majority of subscribers will share the same
interests/hobbies, so incorporating these into your brand and footage may also
be worthwhile.

Examples of fan interests to incorporate into your brand:
Sport (Soccer, American Football, Rugby, Basketball etc.)
  Gaming (FIFA, First-person shooters)
  Politics
  Anime
  Cosplay

Tailoring your brand based on your interests:

When deciding on a direction for your brand, you should also consider what your
interests are. It is going to be much easier for you to promote and develop a
brand within something you understand and enjoy.

We sometimes need to remember that the difference between amateur content
creation and the professional industry is authenticity – try not to focus on
something just because you see another creator having success with it.

The key to long term success within this industry is enjoying what you do… if you
build a brand based on your interests and what YOU enjoy, then it will feel less
like a job and more like a hobby!

Chapter 1: Branding

Personality is EVERYTHING:

A lot of fans enjoy the personal touch and authenticity of amateur content
creation. It is important to remember that your biggest USP is your personality.
You can incorporate this through updating your fans about your daily activities or
by discussing your interests and what you’re passionate about.

Your personality can also be demonstrated through your content. Talking at the
start of end of your footage is a good way to convey this, or even by posting your
content without trimming it to include any bloopers that can show your
real/goofy side.

Watermarking:

Adding a watermark to each and every piece of content you upload is very
important. Not only does it protect you against copycats or having your content
stolen/leaked, but it also keeps your brand consistent and fresh in the mind of
every person that watches it. Longer term, we would advise you to invest in a
personalized and branded watermark but we will have a built in customisable
watermark feature on the site for you to use.

Your branding needs to be consistent
   across your subscription platforms
AND social media. We will be revisiting
   social media promotion in much
more detail in the next chapter.

Chapter 2: Social Media

Intro:

Social media is the most important tool for growing your audience and building a
reputation for your brand. Through increasing your social media following, you
are adding to your pool of potential subscribers and in-turn increasing your
revenue potential.

Think of your social media profile as an advert for your subscription. It is
effectively the blurb of a book and should act as a pull to entice your fans to
subscribe. The goal with each social media post is to reach as many people as
possible (to go viral).

How you promote on social media is completely down to you and what works
best for your brand. You can provide an insight as to what is on your PocketStars
account, through suggestive promotion (non-nude/blurred) or uncensored
teasers.

Twitter:

Out of all the social media platforms, Twitter is definitely the most sex-worker
friendly. You can post NSFW content without the worry of deletion as long as you
mark your profile as NSFW within the settings tab.

For any creators that post explicit content, this freedom can be a huge benefit.
Finding the balance between being explicit enough to increase your reach whilst
not giving too much away can be hard. This ‘sweet spot’ is different for everyone
so we would recommend some trial and error until you are confident on what
works best for you.

With the end goal of maximum reach in mind, your posts need to be as
aesthetically pleasing as possible. The most efficient way to do this is with short
and witty captions, 1-2 lines maximum, with no hashtags or account tags. It may

seem counterproductive but generally speaking, the quickest way to build the
hype on a tweet is through RTs (retweets). When you have a long caption or
include account tags/hashtags, you are much less likely to gain a healthy number
of RTs as the aesthetics of the tweet do not look great.

Useful tips to help you grow on Twitter include:
- Sending your tweets in a direct message to RT/Promo pages.
There are several promotional accounts on Twitter with large followings, that
dedicate their time (free of charge) to supporting and retweeting content
creators. NEVER exchange content for the support of a promo page.
- Ask your mutuals if they are in any RT groups you could be added to. These are
groups where creators will collectively retweet each other’s content in order to
share exposure between all of their fanbases.
Upload content based on current affairs or trending topics. If it is something
that is already fresh in people’s minds, then you are going to increase your
  chances of going viral.

Whilst Twitter is NSFW friendly, your display picture and header/banner
cannot contain any nudity.

Instagram:

As a simplistic user-friendly platform that enables you to build a brand and share
images/videos with ease, Instagram can be very useful to advertise and promote.

The downside with Instagram is that you cannot post any nudity or NSFW
content as this will risk your account being temporarily suspended or
permanently banned. The platform is not sex-worker friendly so you will need to
be extra careful even with your branding and the use of direct links to your
content. We have seen various scenarios where sex-workers have been
suspended and/or banned for simply having an obvious NSFW brand, even
though they have not posted any NSFW content.

                                                       © PocketStars | Creator eBook 08
Chapter 2: Social Media

Our advice would be to stay within a PG-13 level of posting and branding.
Anything that is even implied NSFW is likely to still be reported and flagged.

Whilst these restrictions clearly make it much harder to advertise and promote
your true brand, you can still use the platform to build a reputable and
memorable image that you can use as a gateway to either your NSFW social
media (Twitter/Reddit), or direct to your subscription platform.

As previously mentioned, personality is a very important aspect of your brand.
Fans like to buy into the person in the videos, not just the content itself.
Instagram can be a great way to convey your true personality to your audience –
Since the focus is not on NSFW, you can involve your everyday life and interests
into your posts, so your fans feel like they are getting to know you on a more
personal level.

Where videos tend to be more successful than photos on Twitter, Instagram is
very much the opposite. We would strongly recommend limiting page posts to
pictures and saving any videos for your story/reels.

Useful tips to help you grow on Instagram include:
- SFS (shoutout for shoutout) is a marketing technique where 2 creators will post
promotional material for one-another on their stories or feed, with the goal of
it being an introduction and advertisement to each-others follower base. This
is a great way to maximise your exposure and open up to new audiences.
- Themed/Cosplay posts tend to gain a lot more traction on Instagram than
other platforms. If you can, try and make these relevant to trending topics.
Sports & gaming enthusiasts make up a high percentage of Instagram users so
anything related to these 2 areas is always a great idea.
- Ensure that your image is as clean as possible. The more aesthetically pleasing
your page is at first glance, the more likely a potential follower will decide to
actually follow you. High quality images with short and witty captions are
  highly recommended.

Chapter 2: Social Media

Reddit:

Although not seen as a conventional route for promoting your brand, Reddit is
becoming more popular amongst the sex-work community due to the success it
can bring if you build your reputation (karma) and apply consistency to your rate
of posting. NSFW content is also acceptable and welcomed!

The success of each piece of content is determined by the community through
“upvotes” and “downvotes”. If a post receives a lot of upvotes, it rises in the
rankings and in-turn gains more exposure within the forum.

These upvotes and downvotes also contribute to your overall “karma”, a scoring
system within Reddit that demonstrates your credibility and reputation to other
users. There are 2 types of karma to consider:

Post Karma: This is generated through upvotes on a post that you have created.
Comment Karma: This is generated through upvotes on your comments within a
post another user has created.

Through building your karma, you will then be able to access more exclusive
communities and sub-reddits that generally have a higher level of interaction
and can provide increased exposure.

A few examples of sub-reddits that may be worth
joining and posting within include:
- “adultbuys”
- “sexsells”
- “nsfw_gifs”
- “bonermaterial”

Important things to consider when using Reddit include:
- Only posting your own content into sub-reddits is considered spamming.
Generally speaking, there is a 9:1 rule, whereby you should comment and
interact 9 times before posting 1 piece of your own content.
- Make sure you comment and reply to other comments on your
  own submissions
- Do not submit off-topic content within a specific sub-reddit
- Ensure you follow the rules of each sub-reddit (they are varied for each one)

Chapter 2: Social Media

Reddit definitely requires more investment into learning how it works and
ensuring consistency, however the rewards can be incredible so if you have the
time it is definitely worthwhile!

Shadowbanning

Also known as a “ghostban” or “stealthban”, a shadowban is where a social media
platform places a hidden restriction on your content so it is not accessible to
users that are not directly following your page. This can severely reduce your
exposure and growth.

Shadowbans work in different ways depending
on which platform you are using:

Twitter:
If you regularly post NSFW content, it is likely that you will receive a search ban.
This will stop your profile from coming up in direct searches or suggestions
however it will not affect your content from being displayed on a user’s feed.

Instagram:
Understanding both why and how Instagram shadowban their users is a lot more
complex than on other platforms. On Instagram, a shadowban hides your posts
from users who do not follow you, which can be detrimental to both your
exposure and growth on the platform. You will also not appear in the search
option for any hashtags you attach to your posts.

Whilst the definitive reason for an Instagram shadowban remains a mystery, we
have learnt to understand that both spammy and inappropriate behaviour can
contribute towards it. From a sex-worker’s prospective, this means posting lude,
suggestive or outright NSFW content OR posting too frequently/overusing
hashtags.

The length of time you can stay shadowbanned also varies – you will not receive
any notification from Instagram on when the ban has started or finished.

Chapter 2: Social Media

A few tips on how to avoid a shadowban on Instagram include:
- Avoid using banned, broken or NSFW hashtags. Examples of these include:
nude, nudity, sexy, single, date, womancrushwednesday
- Do not use external software, add-ons or plug-ins
- Avoid big surges in the amount of posts you like or comment on
- Avoid being reported by other users
