August 12, 2021 COVID Vaccination Program Now FYI Mandatory at Gaylord A message from Sonja LaBarbera, President and Chief Executive Officer and Steve Holland, MD, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer We have communicated previously that Gaylord would be joining the CHA effort to involve all hospitals in Connecticut with a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination program. The Delta variant surge in the last few weeks, across the country and even in New England, has made this an urgent issue for us in healthcare. In addition, the State of Connecticut has now mandated that all LTCHs (Gaylord and HSC) and nursing homes comply with a mandatory vaccination program by September 7. At this juncture, it is important to recognize that Gaylord is moving forward with its program because it is the right thing to do for patients and staff. If you have yet to receive the vaccine, you must get the first dose of a two-dose vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) or the single dose vaccine (J&J/Janssen) by September 7, 2021. If choosing a two- dose vaccine, the second dose must be administered by October 11, 2021. Exemptions will be made for documented medical reasons or religious or spiritual beliefs. Applications for exemptions must be filed by August 18, 2021, and will be reviewed by a group comprised of physicians, human resources, legal and chaplaincy experts. Individuals whose exemptions are approved must undergo weekly COVID-19 PCR testing. We understand that some staff have remained unvaccinated because of legitimate concerns and we need to point out here that we didn’t make this decision lightly. Our Values are Continued on page 4 I ntegrity C ompassion A ccountability R espect E xcellence FYI DEADLINE The deadline for the next FYI is August 19. C o mm s SnapComms Comes p Sna to Gaylord PCs A new method of receiving communications will soon be appearing on all Gaylord computer screens. A new app, called SnapComms will soon be launched on all Gaylord computers. The name comes from being able to communicate messages to all staff at all locations “in a snap”. The goal is to deliver information directly to staff in a timely basis. The delivery of the message will vary depending on the importance of the message or timeliness of the information. Information will appear in one of four ways: Desktop pop-up (i.e. event reminder) Scrolling ticker tape (i.e. Signal 5 in effect) Complete screen takeover (i.e. Active Shooter) Screen saver (i.e. HR announcments) This tool will enable Gaylord to increase the distribution of information and news in all departments and across all campuses and help improve overall communication, without always relying on email. SnapComms will complement existing systems already in place such as FYI, everyone emails and Meditech wallpaper announcements. Desktop pop-up example Scrolling ticker example
