MANDATE
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is primarily responsible for maintenance
of Internal Security. MHA’s mandate also includes Border Management,
Centre-State Relations, Administration of Union Territories, Disaster
Management, Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, VISA and Citizenship
issues. Management of Central Armed Police Forces is one of its important
responsibilities related to the discharge of its core mandate.

MHA continuously monitors the Internal Security situation particularly in
the LWE affected areas, Jammu and Kashmir and the North East and
shares intelligence inputs, extends manpower and financial support to
all the State Governments in helping them maintain public order and
ensuring safety and security of its citizens, particularly women and other
vulnerable groups. MHA also helps the States modernise, equip and train
their police forces.
