TAKE HOME MESSAGE
All the biological processes tested have shown great potential for
nitrogen and colour removal

The integration of two or more processes leads to more efficient
performance
Microalgal biomass grown on textile wastewater is a good source of
natural pigments, that can be exploited in the textile production
chain or in other biotechnological industries.

Several funding opportunities are now available to foster the
environmental sustainability and competitiveness of the textile
sector

TAKE HOME MESSAGE
None of the tested processes is still ready to sustain reliably a
complete treatment of the textile wastewater

The proposed technologies are still not economically convenient
compared with conventional ones

A wider range of colour is required and the recipe of colour paste
needs to be improved

A sustainable closed-loop production chain is still not feasible
