Cleanmarine® Krill Oil What is Krill Oil and how does it compare to Fish Oil? Omega 3 for the whole family FOR PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY
What are krill? • Krill (Euphausia Superba) are a shrimp- like marine invertebrate organism. • They feed on phytoplankton, microscopic, single-celled plants that drift near the ocean’s surface. • Did you know? Krill are the most abundant living organism on the planet by biomass: 400 million metric tonnes (human biomass: 250 million metric tonnes).
Cleanmarine® Krill Oil is harvested in the pristine Antarctic Ocean, the cleanest of all the world’s oceans.
Who are CCAMLR? Our fishery is tightly controlled by CCAMLR. CCAMLR (Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources) was established by international convention in 1982 with the objective of conserving Antarctic marine life. CCAMLR practises an ecosystem-based management approach – this does not exclude harvesting as long as such harvesting is carried out in a sustainable manner and takes account of the effects of fishing on other components of the ecosystem. Only one area of the Antarctic is designated for Krill fishing – Area 48 and we work closely with scientists and wildlife groups like the WWF to minimise the environmental impact of fishing for Krill and to monitor the number of krill in the area so that the fishery remains sustainable.
Who belongs to CCAMLR? CCAMLR (Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources) A link to the member states who hold themselves bound by the convention http://www.ccamlr.org/en/organisation/members - note this includes China and Japan. A link to the states that have acceded to the Convention, again binding themselves to CCAMLR’s authority http://www.ccamlr.org/en/organisation/acceding-states
MSC Certification Cleanmarine® Krill Oil was the first Omega 3 Oil in Europe to be awarded MSC Certification. The MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) has two standards, for sustainable fishing and seafood traceability. Fisheries and seafood businesses voluntarily seek certification against the relevant standards, which meet the world's best practice guidelines for certification and eco-labeling. MSC chain of custody standard for seafood traceability. When seafood is sold with the MSC eco-label every business in the supply chain must have undertaken a detailed traceability audit against the MSC Chain of Custody standard. This ensures that only seafood from a certified sustainable fishery is sold with the MSC label. Third party certification. Assessments against both MSC standards are carried out by independently accredited certifiers. For more information go to http://www.msc.org or www.fishfight.net
MSC Certification Cleanmarine® Krill Oil was the first Omega 3 Oil in Europe to be awarded MSC Certification. We are the only krill fishery that has received the seal of approval from the MSC recognising the sustainability of our fishing practices: (The MSC is recognised by the WWF as the world’s leading certification body) • In 2012, only 0.26% of the estimated biomass of krill in Area 48 were fished. The current sustainable catch quota is 9%. • Worldwide, fisheries are only allowed to harvest 1% of krill biomass available, only harvested 0.0375% annually. • Our fishing is 100% traceable – you can find out exactly where your box of krill was sourced. • There is a zero by-catch from our eco-harvesting technology, safeguarding other species that are often caught in traditional fishing
MSC Certification Ranked #1 In an independent study by Accenture the world’s largest management consultant firm, Marine stewardship Council (MSC) is the highest ranking eco label in the ADP report. Ref: http://wwf.panda.org/?186062%2FSeafood-ecolabels-under-the-spotlight-in-new-WWF-report .
Krill Oil - Minimal Processing & Maximum Purity Eco Harvesting: processing of fresh raw material directly on-board, ensures freshness & stability - plus no by-catch or killing of protected or at risk species.
Krill Oil - Faster Absorption & No Fishy Repeat
Krill Oil Faster Absorption Cleanmarine® Krill Oil contains Omega 3 fatty acids in the form of phospholipids - the type of fat our cell membranes are made from. This makes them more easily absorbed by the body than the triglyceride form of Omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oils. It has been shown in scientific studies* that Krill Oil provides 28% better DHA uptake and 20% better EPA uptake than fish oil.
Krill Oil No fishy repeat! • Omega-3 fatty acids are better protected against spoilage and oxidation when delivered as phospholipids. • Delivery as phospholipids also prevents a fishy aftertaste and reflux which is common with fish oils. • The naturally occurring antioxidant Astaxanthin means that Krill Oil doesn’t spoil easily.
Krill Oil vs. Fish Oil
Krill Oil vs. Fish Oil Krill Oil: Fish oils: • Krill comes in a phospholipid form of a • Fish comes in a triglyceride form of a fatty acid. fatty acid • Not dependant on bile for digestion • Needs to be emulsified by bile salts and broken down by lipase to form ffa’s • Spontaneously forms micelles • Bile salts then form micelles around the ffa’s and assist in their absorption • Phospholipids can be absorbed without digestion in their intact form • Considerable triglyceride transport involved • Simpler digestion process in the small intestine and enhanced intestinal • Possible fishy aftertaste and reflux absorption • No fishy repeats • Naturally contains Astaxanthin – krill oil doesn’t spoil easily
Krill Oil vs. Fish Oil *No treatment for PCB’s or Heavy metals is required for Cleanmarine® Krill Oil.

Cleanmarine® Krill Oil Health Benefits & Research Findings
Heart Health Higher levels of HDL ("Good") cholesterol reduce the risk of heart disease and a recent study* has shown that Supplementation with Cleanmarine® Krill Oil can increase this "Good" cholesterol by 14% compared with just 3% using fish oils. Furthermore, a reduction in triglycerides in the blood is also known to reduce the risks of heart disease and once again a study* has shown that supplementing with Cleanmarine® Krill Oil reduced triglycerides by 13% as opposed to 1% using fish oil. Cleanmarine® Brain Function It is widely recognized that the fatty acid DHA is an important building block in the brain and that fat is the most important essential nutrient in a young infant's diet. As DHA from Cleanmarine® Krill Oil absorbs better into the body this is a superior source of fatty acids for brain development.
Krill Oil - Faster Uptake
Cleanmarine® Vision Cleanmarine® Krill Oil supplies easily absorbed EPA and DHA as well as a powerful anti-oxidant Astaxanthin: DHA is known for its support of vision and can help in reducing sight degeneration. Astaxanthin provides an anti-oxidant shield against retinal damage from UV light. Astaxanthin is shown to reduce inflammation in eye muscles and improve blood flow to the eyes, especially in the capillary vessels that supply blood to the retina. As an antioxidant, astaxanthin protects against free radical damage and oxidative stress. Because it is fat soluble, astaxanthin has a special affinity for cell membranes, particularly the double cell membrane found in eye muscle.

Key Ingredients: Rosemary Oil scientifically known as Rosmarinus officinalis Linn - a native of the Mediterranean coastlines. It contains two important ingredients, caffeic acid and rosemarinic acid, both of these acids are potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents. MCT’s (Medium Chain Triglycerides) have between 6 and 10 carbons. Unlike most of the fatty acids in Western diets which are long chain with 12 or more carbons. Due to MCT’s shorter length they are metabolized faster and are more water soluble. Because of this they don’t require bile to break down. They enter the blood stream faster and are taken directly to the liver, where they are used as an immediate source of energy. Since MCT’s are a fat and not a carb, they don’t stimulate insulin. B Vitamins help the body convert food (carbohydrates) into fuel (glucose), which is used to produce energy. B complex vitamins are needed for healthy skin, hair, eyes, and liver. They also help the nervous system function properly, and are needed for good brain function.
Key Ingredients: Isoflavones are a class of phytoestrogens, plant-derived compounds with estrogenic activity. Soybeans and soy products are the richest sources of isoflavones in the human diet. Soy may support better menstrual health by favourably altering oestrogen levels and oestrogen metabolism. Consuming soy protein 20‐60 grams providing 34‐76 mg of isoflavones daily seems to modestly decrease the frequency and severity of hot flushes in some menopausal women. Most evidence suggests that soy protein can increase bone mineral density (BMD), or slow BMD loss in peri‐ and postmenopausal women.
