SECTION 1 GENERAL Section 1 1 Introduction The objective of this class programme (CP) is to describe the type approval (TA) scheme for instruments for switchboard. For a description of the Society's type approval scheme in general and further information on general conditions and procedures for obtaining the TA certificate, see DNVGL-CP-0338 Type approval scheme. The procedures and requirements described in this CP are applicable for obtaining the Society's TA certificate based on requirements given in: — DNVGL-RU-SHIP Pt.4 Ch.8 Electrical installations — DNVGL-OS-D201 Electrical installations — DNVGL-CG-0339 Sec.1 Environmental test specification for electrical, electronic and programmable equipment and systems. Guidance note: This class programme is not applicable for obtaining EU Marine Equipment Directive (MED) certificates. Visit www.dnvgl.com for information on MED certification. ---e-n-d---o-f---g-u-i-d-a-n-c-e---n-o-t-e--- 2 Scope This CP gives a description of the procedures and requirements related to documentation, design and type testing applicable for TA of Instruments for switchboard. This CP does not set the design requirements to the Instruments for switchboard. TA is based on compliance with design requirements given in the rules and/or other regulations and standards. The CP describes the applicable design requirements and how to document compliance with the requirements in order to obtain a TA certificate for the equipment. This includes, where relevant, technical requirements for how the type tests shall be performed. 3 Application TA of equipment in accordance with this CP is not mandatory. A TA certificate in accordance with this CP will confirm compliance with the requirements in the rules as specified in [1]. The TA certificate will not confirm compliance with requirements in other parts of the rules. In case additional requirements in other parts of the rules shall be covered by the TA certificate, this shall be specified in the application for TA and will be stated in the TA certificate. 4 References Table 1 lists DNV GL references used in this document. SECTION 2 PRODUCT REQUIREMENTS Section 2 1 Design requirements The instruments for switchboard shall comply with relevant requirements of publications in its latest edition, including amendments, as listed in Sec.1 Table 1 and Sec.1 Table 2. Sec.1 Table 1 lists DNV GL standards general to all instruments. Sec.1 Table 2 refers to IEC 60051-1, applicable for all instruments, and specific standards for each type of switchboard instrument. Regarding IEC 60051-5 Part 5, synchroscope shall ensure that parallel switching is impossible if the supply- or measuring voltage fails or in the event of failure of any component. 2 Test requirements 2.1 General The testing is divided into: — visual inspection — electrical/mechanical tests — environmental tests. 2.2 Visual inspection By visual inspection, it shall be verified that the test sample is in conformity with the approved plans. Visual inspection shall be carried out as specified in DNV GL rules for classification of ships DNVGL-RU-SHIP Pt.4 Ch.8 Sec.4. 2.3 Electrical/mechanical tests The electrical/mechanical tests are categorized as type tests (to be carried out on the prototype) and routine tests to be carried out on every unit. The tests to be performed are specified in IEC 60051 part 1 to part 9, as applicable for each product. 2.4 Environmental tests Tests related to endurance and reliability of the product on board ships, e.g., vibration test, should take account of the environmental strains on board vessels. In case of insufficient experience from service on board ships (or equivalent), the following tests may be required as type tests: — vibration test according to DNVGL-RU-SHIP Pt.4 Ch.8 Sec.3, and/or DNVGL-CG-0339 — damp heat test, according to DNVGL-CG-0339 — salt mist test according to DNVGL-CG-0339 — dry heat/cold test according to DNVGL-CG-0339.
